Variety:
New Line Cinema is playing ball with Jim Carrey and Jake Gyllenhaal on "Damn Yankees," attaching both actors to star in a contemporized film transfer of the classic musical.
Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel are set to write the script.
The musical is being produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the duo behind New Line's musical "Hairspray"; a sequel to that film is in the works.

How about the fact that neither can sing or dance? Small insignificant detail?
I for one am happy that musicals are still being made. I hope they cast someone good as Lola like Jane Krakowski and not some hollywood actress who can't sing or dance.
But why remake this one? There are so many great musicals that haven't been made LA CAGE AUX FOLLES, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon (I would cast Patrick Wilson as the male lead - he sings like an angel), Assasins etc.
Or if you're going to remake one - correct one of the bad movie versions of a good musical - Re-Do A Chorus Line, A Funny thing happend on the way to the Forum, A Little Night Music - all excellent musicals done badly on film the first time.
Damn Yankees the movie is fine - it should be left alone.
well , since neither one of them sing this should be an interesting mess . The important part though is Lola and they have no idea who will get that part. hopefully she is over 16

Can either of them even sing? It's was embarrassing at the Oscars the other night when the only one that was singing was Jackman. Knowles, the high school kids all lipped synced.
