I Like ItI Don’t Like It

David Letterman had CBS News anchor Katie Couric doubled over with laughter when he referred to Rush Limbaugh as a "bonehead" and described his shirt-unbuttoned appearance at the recent CPAC conference as that of an "East European gangster."

Though Couric didn't take the bait during her guest appearance on Monday night, she did admit to feeling uncomfortable to hear the words Rush Limbaugh and flesh in the same sentence and joked with Letterman, "So much for my interview with Rush."

WATCH:

Here is Letterman's conversation with Couric:

Letterman starts off, asking Couric:

"What about this bonehead Rush Limbaugh? Honest to God, I mean, what is going on there?
He gets up in Washington and he's the keynote speaker at some function and he comes up and he looks like an East European gangster. He's got the black jacket on, the black silk shirt and it's unbuttoned like, oh yeah, when you think Rush Limbaugh, you think, 'Ooh, let's see a little flesh.' Honestly. What is he doing?"

Couric doubles over and laughs, saying "although I'm thrown by the Rush Limbaugh flesh in the same sentence... it's indicative of the power vacuum in the Republican party right now and he's filling it right now."

Letterman continues:

"We get used to Republicans like Newt Gingrich and Newt... resembled a Newt... but a smart guy. And now all of a sudden you get Rush Limbaugh... "I'm sorry the casino's closed"... What? Leave us alone, my God!

Couric laughs, adding, "So much for my interview with Rush."

I did not want Bush to personally fail in all areas. However, I wanted many of his policies and actions to fail, and they did fail. I wanted torture and overriding the bill of rights to fail. I would have liked free market policies to benefit the poor and the middle class - but knew from history it would fail and make the rich richer. I wanted the waste and corruption and favoritism and inefficiencies to fail. I wanted his attempts to spend us and our children into the poorhouse (literally for some) to fail. I wanted his greed and lust for power to fail.

I wanted some of his ends to succeed, but disagreed with his methods. I saw that his means were not thought out, ineffective, unethical and/or immoral. They often seemed aimed some other outcome than the one he claimed. For example: He claimed several different goals for his war in Iraq. It led to unacceptable civilian deaths and hardships, an even more unstable area, and hordes of terrorists - but a favorable position for oil companies.

The world situation was too complex to honestly say I wanted him to fail, or succeed, completely.

Very well put I must agree..You have a point in our history...You're right on wishing evil policies to fail..Now if only the wrongdoers would go straight to jail..Won't really happen though the power is strong... even if they do all wrong..I'm glad we have new blood on Pennsylvania Avenue...The white hair club is backward in Revenue..Taking all they can with ideas that are jokes...Jokes on the middle class and the little folks....PoeticCommentator

Obviously Letterman could not criticize or debate Rush on anything that he said in his speech. All he could do was make fun of his looks. That shows Letterman's total lack of intelligence (and we all know what I great looking guy he is too). Most of you who are liberal are a bunch of bullies who never have anything of substance to say. Try really listening to what Rush has to say. At one time I thought that he was full of anger and hot air but after giving him another try I realize that what he says is the truth. The anger he may have is due to how liberals are trying to destroy our great country.

Look, I agree with you, Rush is a great communicator, but he's dead wrong on economic issues. This is a guy who dropped out of Southeast Missouri State University after two semesters. For comparison Obama, the leader of the Dems you so love (sic), graduated law school with honors from Harvard. Let me tell you something about smart people that makes them good informed leaders: They surround themselves with other smart people. So, Obama is basing his decisions on what the economy needs, according to his "smart" sources a la Larry Summers and his crew.

Will there be a dash of partisan agenda in his decisions? ofcourse. But having read his books, and followed the career, nothing has hinted at this guy being careless or informed in his decision making. The president is an equally good communicator as Limbaugh, but the difference is, President Obama doesn't spew baseless partisan nonsense.

So, wake up dude, and smell the coffee! And what's this nonsense about calling people to debate Rush? Seriously, WTF?

oops. I meant "un-informed" instead of "informed"

Thank you for your wise and informed comment. Loved it, but I think it's wasted on Limbaugh lovers. Nevertheless, it's nice to hear it!

You're just another gullible dude who fell for Limbaugh's axiomatic rants. Look, the guy compares this recession to the recession of the 80s, and that is the lens he's using to view the whole economic crisis. This isn't the 80s -- the rate of job losses are much more staggering, the rapid deflation of the GDP is staggering, the impending insolvency of major banks is staggering, the structure of the world economy is also so much different. So, when Limbaugh admonishes the Democrats for not solving the crisis by simply turning to the Republican holy grail -- tax cuts, he simply doesn't have a grasp of economics or the intellect needed to assess what the country really needs. When the country leaks GDP, Government Spending (a.k.a. the stiumuls bill) needs to be infused to replenish the loss. It's fundamental economics dude. And regarding the government poking its nose in the private sector, this whole mess started because markets were left to their own devises.

Hey "liberals are a bunch of bullies" bonehead. Where were you the last 8 years that Bush and his cohort of criminals did indeed destroy our country? You just came out of the cave and realized that we are in an unnecessary/criminal war that increased the deficit to never imagined levels, that regulators were pretty much absent ant let the banks, Wall Street and their ilk cause the next depression, that we've been torturing people, spying on our own citizens and violating our constitution! Where were you? With your head under the dirt and getting ready to blame this disaster on the people that just came to clean your mess?
Republicans = Hypocrites. Enough said!

I rememeber when David Letterman had a late night entertainment show, instead of a Keith Oberman rip off program.

Anyway, thank you David for helping double Rush's ratings!!! He really appreciates it!!

Amen - as long as Rush is the GOP's chosen leader the Dems will have a skating party. There are just so many wild eyed foaming fanatics in this great country and seems they are all in the GOP. And, the whole world knows it .

God, it just don't get no better than this.

Good job Dave!
At least Letterman won't feel compelled to crawl to Limbaugh with his tail between his legs begging for forgiveness.

Dave is cool. He doesn't care for self-aggrandizing hypocrisy, and he doesn't care to be overly polite about it these days, either. It's a public service. Thanks, Dave!

No kidding! I thought of that very same movie while I caught glimpses of his grotesque silhouette at the CPAC gathering. And when he began jumping up and down I just KNEW that he had had real structural engineers actually test the flooring to be sure his humongous A*S wouldn't go through it!

Now, THAT would've been the Ultimate Icing on The World's Cake for this century, last century, and Next century!!

David is at his very best when tearing a new one for the country's biggest chunk of rancid phlegm. Sic him Dave. It's only history making, must see TV. It's things like this that when I see someone say tv bores them, I think really?? NOW?? Impossible!

Lex Luthor is real and his name is Rush Limbaugh
Superman is real and his name is David Letterman.

You thought I was going to say Obama didn't you? Obama has bigger fish to fry. But for David, this is like your favorite cat playing with the rat that keeps peeing o n everything in your house. It's the Greatest Show on Earth!

More please. :D&-=

I can't stand Rush but as far as I'm concerned he is fully in his rights under the constitution to say whatever the heck he wants. Those that fall prey to his blather deserve it. I mean come on, most of us wanted Bush to fail in everything he did or tried to do.

No, I did not want him to fail. I lost friends in Iraq. I did not think he would succeed, but I was more than ready to be proven wrong. That's the difference.

Speak for yourself. Once we were stuck with him we wanted him to succeed. When Bush failed, lives were lost and livelihoods were wiped out and the country was beet red embarrassed. You wanted all of that?

But, aaronr2000, after four years and proof that Bush and his merry men had LIED and KILLED and STOLEN BILLIONS OF TAX DOLLARS, his enablers gave his criminal administration another FOUR YEARS to compound his latest failure.
How do you explain that.
Yes, it was important that the Bush Administration succeed and everybody wanted that.
But, when it was crystal clear that this was yet another of his gigantic failures, WHY was he given another term.
Now, President Obama is attempting to right the wrongs of the last eight years and there are those who are determined to place the blame for the abysmal economy on his administration because they have not righted the ship in their first month in office.
It seems that there is a large faction of the population who have the attention span of a gnat. WHEW!!

None of us wanted Bush to fail no matter how far to the left we were and no matter how much our ideologies contradicted those radical right-wing beliefs Bush called politics. Saying I wanted Bush to fail is like saying I wanted the nation to go bankrupt, I wanted to lose my job, I wanted to go hungry, I wanted to see thousands of American soldiers die for nothing, I wanted to see hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians die for nothing, I wanted to lose my life savings, etc. No one wished for these things to happen. We all gave Bush a chance to make things right and to be a good leader, but he failed anyways. Can't blame that on the Dems.

Even people in other countries wanted Bush to succeed. No one wished for him to fail.

Now it is unconscionable to see Americans wishing for Obama to fail, and worse, being obstructionist and uncooperative to try making him fail.... This is quite different than speaking out on policies that are ill founded or offering better ideas if you have any.

Everyone should hope Obama succeeds and try to do all they can to help his administration succeed.
