Michael Steele Gets Repeatedly Dissed On Morning Joe (VIDEO)

First Posted: 4/4/09 Updated: 5/25/11

Steele

RNC Chair Michael Steele, who's made all of the wrong kinds of news this week after he offered Rush Limbaugh a stooping apology for comments he made on CNN's D.L. Hughley Breaks the News, was the subject of a series of acid-tipped disses on this morning's Morning Joe, after canceling his planned appearance. Led by an unabashedly sharp-tongued Joe Scarborough, Steele was viciously mocked at seemingly every lull in the conversation, as the hosts speculated over whether or not Rush Limbaugh had given Steele a "permission slip" to come on the air.

Everyone got in on the act:

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Our thanks to Lawrence O'Donnell, for being on the show this morning.

LAWRENCE O'DONNELL: Joe, I just want to apologize to Rush Limbaugh before I leave your show.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Hold on, hold on. You're actually a Democrat, so you don't have to cower in the corner.

BRZEZINSKI: You may snicker.

O'DONNELL: You know, I once criticized Rush for attacking Michael J. Fox, but the more I think about it, I think Michael deserved it.

Scarborough's japes finally culminated in a "Morning Joe Exclusive" interview, which was actually just Scarborough and company yelling over top of Steele's interview with Today's Matt Lauer.

Steele is such a hypocrite saying that he has only been on the job 30 days. Doesn't he criticize Obama although he's only been on the job around 44 days.

Anynone not blind could see how much of a punk Steele was!!

Why is it that so many people rant about "freedom of speech"
until something is said that they don't like.

BOO HOO HOO.....Seems like what is good for the goose is also good
for the gander....so quit quacking about Rush and Steele, trying to make a
competition about it.

All it is doing is taking the heat off the poor condition of the economy and
the real problems with the stimulus and the budget that is running us in a
deep, deep pit that we will be lucky if all these shovel projects will be able to
dig us out of. (IF EVER)

I don't know, but you seem pretty good at it so why don't you enlighten us?

I'm disgusted and absolutely applauded at wat I just seen here. This is absolute disrespect on many levels to The head of the republican party. Michael Steele has his reasons why he couldn't attend, but for MSNBC morning Joe crew to react in such an unprofessional matter is ridiculous. Your Job is to report news and be professional not take matters in your own hands and be ignorant. Fox might be a little bias most of the time but I have never seen any fox news anchor behave in a childish unprofessional manner. GROW UP!!!

Need you be reminded that Joe Scarborough is a moderately conservative Republican who was elected to Congress in 1994 as part of the Contract With America crowd? He must be absolutely embarrassed by the weak, groveling behavior of Steele and other GOP members towards Limbaugh for I'm sure he understands that his party is going to become a permanent minority party if Limbaugh becomes it unquestioned face. Steele deserves to be mocked for being so weak. The GOP is in total disarray.

What disrespect? Steele has shown he's a coward and paid his obeisances and kissed the ring of Imperator Rush. And thank you jrutle. You actually watch the show, or know bother to do your research... As a bleeding heart liberal, Joe's like my favorite Republican (used to be McCain back in the day).
03:24 PM on 03/06/2009
Not a fan of Scarborough here but...remember Morning Joe is NOT a news show or part of NBC News. That said, I believe the Scarborough kid is about as phoney as they come. Whenever I formerly watched the show is when I had previously checked to see if he would not be there that day.
09:14 AM on 03/06/2009
This is the level of discourse among Liberal TV hosts? I would be embarrassed by this if I were a Liberal. They're just mocking him - how sad. O'reilly would never stoop this low. He always treats his Liberal guests with respect. They may get into a heated debate, but publicly mocking people is exclusive to the Left.
09:35 AM on 03/06/2009
Scarborough's a conservative and he was the main one talking smack. So I guess you must be pretty embarrassed and I can understand why.

Former Congressman Joe Scarborough (R-Fla.) serves as host of “Morning Joe,” weekdays from 6-9 a.m. ET on MSNBC.
09:59 AM on 03/06/2009
So we have two cable news networks tailoring their news to the audience they want to capture; FOX for republicans, MSNBC for democrats. I think the days of real news reporting are long gone. Now it's entertainment with a spin for the chosen market... sad.
09:03 AM on 03/06/2009
I don't understand why the people on MSNBC can't be just a little professional towards republicans they bring on the show. They are obnoxious and just focus on how much the GOP sucks to cover up how horrible the anointed one is doing. You all are so open-minded
11:43 AM on 03/06/2009
Uh, the reason they were being so "obnoxious" is because Steele did not appear on their show. Tell Steele to show up and then they'd be respectful. And Scarborough is a Gingrinch conservative.

Umm don't lump all of MSNBC with that blanket statement. Rachel Maddow is very professional towards republicans that actually have the guts to come on her show!!
03:01 AM on 03/06/2009
I despise Limbaugh and corrupt polititions as much as the next rational American with common sense, but this just seems like a liberal version of Fox and Friends. Is it too much to ask for a little professionalism and grace? Steele went the cowards way out, but instead of rolling with the punches and conducting an informative and insightfull show, they decide to act like children. Didn't this guy used to be a Senator? Twenty four hour news has killed the real press. Edward R. Murrow would be disgusted by the shamefull way they have destroyed his lifes work. SEACREST OUT!
07:10 PM on 03/06/2009
Actually I doubt Mr. Murrow would give a crap, he worked for CBS.

Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen of the GOP, we are now boarding Flight 666 heading to the Planet Blackman. For those of holding boarding passes for seats 6 - 66 please start boarding. Please enjoy your flight and please remember, do not pick up anymore 'undesirables'.

Thank you for flying Rush Express.

The only thing missing is the soundtrack. "Mr. Bojangles" would be most appropriate.

I heard, actually, that Michael Steele called in to an oldies station and requested Patsy Cline's "So Wrong" and dedicated it to his BFF Rush Limbaugh.

Kind of like my Cubbies. Just a little bit of a losing streak. Anyone can have a bad century. Just need to string a few wins together. Attaboy, wait for your pitch, we'll get 'em tomorrow, etc, etc, etc until the sewer pipe reaches the great lake...

I wonder if Michael Steele has been effectively neutered by Rush this week as leader of the RNC. How is he going to do his 'reach out' after having to apologize to Limbaugh?
