Think Progress:

Last month, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) criticized "excess spending" in the federal recovery package, saying he (like Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal) would reject $50 million in unemployment benefits for part-time workers. But yesterday, the state legislature passed a bill circumventing Barbour:

Limbaugh Quotes

1. I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.

2. You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed.

3. Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?

4. Right. So you go into Darfur and you go into South Africa, you get rid of the white government there. You put sanctions on them. You stand behind Nelson Mandela — who was bankrolled by communists for a time, had the support of certain communist leaders. You go to Ethiopia. You do the same thing.

5. Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.

6. The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.

7. They’re 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?

8. Take that bone out of your nose and call me back(to an African American female caller).

Don't let anybody try to convince me that Rushbo isn't a b.i.g.o.t. and a h.y.p.o.c.r.i.t.e. I'm not religious but I do hope that his god sends him directly to H.E.L.L. when his time comes - or sooner if that is possible.

This is great news for the people who have lost their jobs and need help right now. I hope the other states follow. Are they working on it, does anyone know?

The irrelevance of Pyush has come to head! Louisiana gangstas are not going to snub their nose at hand outs.

Oops, guess you don't really need a governor, only a figurehead

When you lose your job and the pride, dignity and hope that goes with it? No, you don't need THIS governor - or any other governor who can't see past the next election.

If the same thing happens in Louisiana, it will be fun watching Jindal make a heart felt plea to the people to help him not help them.

Jindal has made too many mistakes already the biggest one being running for president while still governor. His opponent is going to have a field day with that in 2011 when Jindal runs again. Jindal is going to have to deny that's what he's been doing when everyone knows that's exactly what he's been doing. He's going to have to lie again which means the only people who'll vote for him are the ones who believe the lie.

Then of course if he loses, that's it. He'll be lucky if he can get a job in 7-11.

Sitting there with the pinhead wimp Jidal, these idiots should recognize that states like mine (blue East Coast wealthy) have to send tax dollars to THEIR states, to pay for them. This is great for us, thank you Mississipi House! if you look at how bad things are by state, the red republican voting states are the WORST. They have the highest welfare, the highest unemployment, the highest rates of teen pregnancy, etc. and since WE have to send OUR tax dollars there, we should have a say! We want these welfare Republican states to succeed, but they have to stop voting Republican first. That is what is keeping them down, and Governors like this.

Oh gracious, that was the plan all along. Jindal said "no", but he knew from the getgo that the legislature would take it...and he then, would be able to say "I didn't want to take this money"...when he runs for office the next time. SO that will be his mantra...."I didn't want it, they made me take it"...and all the Louisiana Reps can take the heat...same for Mississippi. Who are these over egoed guys thinking...that nobody would 'get' this?

Hypocrisy abounds with regards to earmarks. The self-righteousness among Republicans on the issue of government spending is rank and overwhelming. The GOP is acting as if federal spending is a Democratic monopoly. Republican Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi tops the list, with $470 million in earmarks for himself and his colleagues. Next up is Cochran's seatmate"Republican Roger Wicker, hitting the scales at $390 million. Of the top 10, six are Republicans. This informs us that Republicans are as fond of pork as Democrats. But it also tells us something else. See a pattern here? Alabama. Mississippi. Louisiana. West Virginia.

They're full o'pork. They knew all along they'd take that money, but didn't want to do it honestly. Like always. Put on the re'pug face, bluster about how it's evil and you're not gonna take it, while making a wish list of what you're gonna do with it when you do take it.

The people of MS and LA have every right to the stimulus due them. I don't see how their Gov could in their right conscience deny unemployment to help people.

I live in Louisiana. Last I checked I was still an American citizen paying taxes to Washington. If Washington votes me some assistance when I have lost my job, who is Bo Jindal to prevent me from receiving said assistance? Jindal is a Rush Limbaugh Republican who hates the working class and wants to take the food from the mouths of our children.

President Obama should have had language inserted into the stimulus bill that said if any State's Governor did not want to accept stimulus money, then that State's legislature would not be allowed to accept the money!

Then we'd see which Governor was really a Republican!

If he were at war with the Republicans, he might do that.

But Obama said that he intended to be the President of the UNITED States, not the Red States or the Blue States.

The Obama Administration DID insert such language. That's how they could get around the grandstanding GOP governors in order to actually help the people in those states.

Good for them. They're putting the PEOPLE first instead of their personal agenda.

Mississippi and Louisiana have been a drag on the treasury for years. If these two geniuses want to not accept federal funds, I say fine. Let's not give it to them. Let them pay their own way and see what sort of enlightened society they come up with. I'll bet it is not pretty.
