The Hill:

Former Commerce Secretary William Daley is leaning toward running for the Senate seat President Obama once held, sources close to Daley tell The Hill. They characterize the decision as all but finalized.

Daley would likely be an instant front-runner in the race to replace Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.). Though the White House may be loath to get involved in a primary, it would be hard to overlook the fact that Daley was a co-chairman of Obama's presidential campaign and the transition team.

Ah ... the plot thickens!!!! Doesn't surprise me that Mayor Mumbles' (Daley) brother is after this seat ... but where does this leave Alexi Gianoulious??? President Obama campaigned for him to become our treasurer & helped him win, and he also is an Obama ally and interested in this senate seat.

As a Chicagoan, I'm weary of the Daleys and their monopoly running this city - and we don't need another one on a national stage this time! I'm voting for Alexi G. if he runs!

There are several Obama supporters and friends that may be running for the Burris seat. Alexi Giannoulias has already announced. He is a good friend of the President. Jesse Jackson, Jr may run as well as Bill Daley. I doubt that the President will get involved in the primary because it is going to be a free for all and he will have many friends running.

You've got that right! I wouldn't involve myself in this mess, either, because he'd ultimately have to choose sides, and possibly lose a friend/ally.

If Daley gets the nomination, the Dems will lose this seat. People are fed up with Democrats in this state. Mayor Daley runs a corrupt operation in Chicago and Blago dragged us down into the gutter. The Dems control all of state govt and it's a mess. I think the Republicans could get this seat by default.

Mayor Daley? Are you blaming William here for what his father did or what his brother has done? Cause that's pretty screwed up either way. Daley Sr. I'll hand you was not an honest man. But if you can name me one thing that Daley Jr. did, besides having Daley Sr. as a father, one corrupt or bad thing then you get to spout your nonsense. Come on, give me one. You can't. He's been a great mayor. I hate all of this guilty by association guff. Daley Jr. has done nothing wrong, his brother William has done nothing wrong. But somehow because their father was who he was they are bad people? Oh and because Blago was from the same city and was governor of the small town that exists outside of the State of Chicago, William is a bad person? You're as bad as Sarah Palin with all her Bill Ayers attacks.

"Daley Jr. has done nothing wrong?" Wow. Read much? Back when he was state's attorney, he covered up for a deranged cop commander who tortured confessions out of suspects -- thus resulting in the courts having to free hundreds of potentially guilty criminals. As mayor, there's been scandal -- and indictments and convictions -- in just about every city department, involving steering city business to campaign contributors. After ODing on wall-to-wall Rod, even Illinois voters are getting tired of it.

Bill Daley won't get support downstate, not after Rod's performance. And he's dull, without even the tiny sliver of regular-guy charm his brother banks on. He doesn't have a snowball's chance of winning statewide office in 2012.

As a life long Chicagoan, I think Daley has made Chicago unaffordable and unlivable for working class families. He has been Mayor for 20 tears, and the argument could be made that the city is getting worse4. It is time for a "change" in Chicago and Illinois, and some one named Daley is not going to bring that change!

Irrelevant post. First of all, any Dem that gets the nod will be from Chicago, but more laughable is the last Governor, George Ryan is in jail and is a Republican.

And didn't Blagojevich win partly because his adversary Judith Topinka made him look good or at least less bad? It's simplistic to think that the Democrats in Illinois are all bad and the Republicans all good.

Jan Schakowsky's from Evanston, not Chicago, and would win if the Daley clan has the sense to keep out of this. Bill could easily win the primary, but he'll lose the general.

As I recall, he's the guy who honchoed Al Gore's abject capitulation to the Bush-Cheney gang in the 2000 election, isn't he? Instead of mounting protests in the streets to preserve and demand a democratic solution to the abomination perpetrated by the Gang of 5 on the Supreme Court?

Haha a Daley and a Burris running for the seat in Illinois. Thank you for handing the seat back to a Republican in 2010 is all I have to say.

Your right. Obama has no clout in Illinois ...

Might want to reread the article. It says the White House is loath to get involved in a PRIMARY.

General election on the other hand ...

No legit Repub will ever win a national Ill. I would almost bet any Repub there is going to be as savy as the rest, and that includes falling into corruption.

Go for it. I would rather we have an honest hard-working American, than a corrupt, unreliable African American...in this case the puny Burris. He is a disgrace...

Honest and hard working Americans didn't have Steak for dinner every day of their lives like this guy. The only difference between Daley and Burris ? One is white and one is black, and color doesn't have a hand in making one better than the other. Now I am no fan of Burris, but you got to be kidding me ? You are kidding right ?

You seem to be unaware that our previous administration didn't vet ANY of their Cabinet members.

The light Obama is shining has nothing but cockroaches to hit. And maybe that just says something about how people will look away if they see an elephant or a donkey on the lapel.

Or worse, as it would appear from your rhetoric, the color of one's skin. And that ignores the fact that race, gender, creed, sexual orientation and even political affiliation is no basis for judgement.

But we already know the Bush Administration concocted the story about WMD to justify Iraq. Most Americans were foolish enough...or ignorant enough...or indifferent enough,,,to let them.

Keep shining the light, Barack. Maybe we'll get some more folks that are worthy. Hey, there may be one or two more Republicans, even. Now THAT would b some audacious hope!!
