U2's Letterman Top 10 List, Sting Mocking (VIDEO)

Huffington Post   First Posted: 4/4/09 Updated: 5/25/11

U2, who are appearing all week as the musical guests on the "Late Show with David Letterman," also took part in delivering the show's nightly "Top 10" list Wednesday. Appropriately titled "Things U2 has learned over the years," it featured good punch lines for each of the band's members and ended with a zinger at Letterman's expense.

But perhaps the best moment was when guitarist the Edge, who was given the task of reading #5--"Cool Name: The Edge. Uncool Name: The Itch"--instead said "Uncool Name: Sting" before correcting himself. Was it an accident or was the Edge mocking his fellow one-name rock star? The look on his face isn't entirely innocent. Take a look to decide for yourself--that particular bit starts at 2:00.

Great job, lads. Now pay your bloody taxes so we don't have to think of ye as hypocrites anymore!!!!!!

No Artists don't pay taxes in Ireland.

These guys sound as good as ever. Refreshing contrast from the usual washed-up act.

Hilarious....I've been a fan of this band for many decades since their early days at home in Dublin. We are all very proud of these 4 Irish lads who not only make awesome music but use their celebrity for great causes.

Rock On Lads.

Seen The Beatles at Shea. (Well, as well as a kid could)
Seen The Stones.
Seen Eric Clapton, The Clash, Dylan, Elvis Costello....and yes, Sinatra.

Best concert: U2 in Boston on the Vertigo tour.

Hands down.

I risk the wrath of U2dom but...
Bono/Edge/Adam/Larry/manager are worth close to a billion (it will double someday). Shouldn't the man who has endlessly campaigned for people dying every day, for lack of simple things we take for granted, donate a lion's share of his mega profits? Doesn't anybody find it strange that the very man known for speaking for dying poor in Africa has about $200 million in his wallet while his bandmates/manager have a combined have another $800 miilion? U2 could give a $500 million vaccine purchase for AFrica which would save literally millions of millions of people from dying of disease that can be cured with a simple doctor visit here. It's not like they would go broke if gave 90% of wealth to the cause. Each would still have $20 million dollars plus U2 Inc. to send cash for the rest of their life even if they retired tomorrow. Bono is using an international tax system set up for ultra wealthy to keep his money away from Ireland to beat paying taxes for a system designed to benefit everyone - and a system that donates tax money to Africa. Bono has actually given speeches in front of his own government ,while meeting in private with leaders, to get them to raise the amount government gives to Africa. Yet Bono doesn't pay in his fair share? Ireland made him obscenely rich with their no tax clause for artists that lasted decades.

So we are to believe that you are privy to U2's collective financial statements?
03:37 PM on 03/05/2009
Actually I have a close friend who has worked for years in non-profit fundraising and it is possible to find out how much celebrities/companies are worth and give to charities, apparently it's been a well known fact for years that despite the pontificating Bono gives no personal funds to any charities, sad but true. Not sure how much he's worth exactly but I'd say it's a lot more than the $200m mentioned in the original post, they've always been shrewd investors and own a lot of hotels, bars etc

Try going to where they are and then criticize them. Better yet, criticize the person you see in the mirror. A few albums ago Bono suggested how big a responsibility it was to be in their position. Ego smigo, (I made that up I think.) he wears it well.
They always had a plan to do well , but have done better than planned. Their early LPs really showed the future of music. Listen to the radio, modern rock at least, everybody wants to sing like Bono and every guitarist wants to sound like The Edge. (On RnB stations, they all sound like Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson...)
Point being, they invented a new sound at the time and have carried it on. Quite a responsibiity and they carry it well.

I was there at the beginning and have enjoyed each and every product they have created.

Simply magnificent. They have been for well over 20 years now and (hopefully) will continue to be so for another 20 years.
