Jon Stewart Letterman

Jon Stewart wasted no time following Wednesday's epic CNBC take-down, appearing on the "Late Show with David Letterman" Thursday night and continuing the thought.

Except to Letterman, he didn't just focus on CNBC — he blasted all three 24-hour financial news channels, presumably CNBC, Fox Business, and Bloomberg.

"The thing that upsets me the most, honesty, there are three 24-hour financial networks," Stewart complained. "All their slogans are like, 'We know what's going on on Wall Street.' But then you turn it on during the crisis, and they're like, 'We don't know what's going on!' It'd be like turning on The Weather Channel in a hurricane, and they're just doing this: 'Why am I wet? What's happening to me? And it's so windy! What's going on, I'm scared!' How do you not know?

Comics very often are the real truth-tellers. George Carlin & Viet Nam. Richard Pryor & all kinds of truth. AND OF COURSE, PHYLLIS DILLER & JOAN RIVERS FOR WOMEN'S RIGHTS!

Washington (meaning President Obama, and therefore we the people whom put him there) is now in control of the pulse on Wall Street - not Rush, not the RNC, not the financial news networks, and most certainly not Warren Buffett - and this is running the right wing crazy, so the best they can do his hope President Obama fails or as Buffett put it, "runs over a cliff."

I always considered Warren Buffett to be pretty moderate and thought he supported Obama. You can correct me if necessary.

Based on Wall Street's actual recent results, the Treasury must be doing something right. Let 'em scream.

Thank you John, you zeroed in on the MSM's complete hypocrisy. ty

The 24/7 networks are terrible at reasoned / responsible reporting. That is why America needs a real news network, accountable to the American people, and set up - not for profit or to advance corporate interests - for educating / informing the American people.

That is why we now call for our own version of the BBC. The United States Broadcasting network, non-profit, an all news network with educational programs, with "Frontline" like shows, and an army of employed professional journalists who are beholding to no corporation or idealogy, but infused with the love of the Truth.

I would not be surprised to learn the Wall St. titans are engaged in collusion, i.e., an organized, back-room conspiracy to drive the market down to a point where they get even more tax payer bailouts. I know this sounds crazy, but not impossible given their track record of greed and stupidity.

That's not a far-fetched claim in the least. You need to read "The Shock Doctrine" by Naomi Klein. She basically backs up her theory (and a pretty good one at that) that Wall Street pretty much works hand in hand with Washington in order to drive down market value, secure enormous bailouts, all while mid to top level executives make off with millions of dollars in severance packages and bonuses. I highly encourage you to read it.

Joe Scarborough just slammed Jon Stewart on today's Morning Joe. I hope Stewart switches targets and reloads. With the kind of stuff that has come out of Scarborough's mouth over the years, that should be a walk in the park for his research staff.

Nah. Stay on target. Morning Joe is just trying to do the greedmasters' dirty work: Distract, distance, disregard.

Does Joe Scarborough have any credibility left? For that matter does anyone still watch his show? It's basically a carousel of NBC personalities that come and go. He doesn't really have guests.

It sounds like Stewart lost some money in the market.

That's what it looks like! At first, I thought he was just poking fun at CNBC and the markets (as he always do) ... but now, it looks personal.

Well at least we know, John Stewart is in the same boat as the rest of us. It's good to see him in the trenches next to me.
Welcome John ...

Bush's rating was in teens at the end; wonder what the true rating of the financial media ought to be, like CNBC (Cute Naked Business Con). Negative! They created the mess they are clearly a smelling part of.

Oh, those talking heads should be sent to Siberia and made to grow their own food and raise real pigs...

Jon Stewart and the Daily Show are GODS for taking on these windbags! Now they trash Obama & Geithner 24/7 for the financial system's mistakes. Their take boils down to, "Why doesn't he just stop EVERYTHING and address OUR concerns?" Since Obama won't do this, they act like spoiled brats who've decided to break their toys or hold their breath in protest - they force the market DOWN. Meanwhile, they spew a steady stream of complaints about how inept government is at EVERYTHING, while, simultaneously, they sit and WAIT for the government to fix the problem. Huh? Where is the private sector's solution to the private sector 's mess? Nowhere - it doesn't exist!

No one is stopping them from fixing the mess themselves, yet all they do is complain and WAIT for government. I saw this mess coming a year ago when the bank insurers first started lowering their ratings. What did the private sector do about it? NOTHING. What did Bush do about it? NOTHING! Did the CNBC talking heads ride BUSH 24/7 for his failure to act? NO! They dropped it like a hot potato and resumed cheering for the plunderers. Now they are all experts at what has to be said or done THIS INSTANT or it's all Obama's fault?

In truth, this noise is all about deflecting the blame, and trying to undermine the left's attempts to even things back out after the generation long disaster of Reaganomics. Class warfare, huh? BRING IT ON!

Amen! Wall Streer is just having a great big temper tantrum hoping for billions more in taxpayer money with no strings attached a la the Bush/Paulsen bailout/theft. And the right wing trickle-down true believer talking heads are doing everything they can to blame Obama for Bush's mess.
Bravo to Obama for understanding that all this childish behavior and blackmail must not be indulged. These fat cats have been indulged for too long!

This shouldn't only be coming from the comedia. It should be coming from EVERY source of media. No one saw this coming... despite it being their profession. That is a serious indictment of how our economic system works these days.

Many saw this coming...Michael Ruppert being among those who saw the writing on the wall years ago.

Who is Michael Ruppert ? Very few ' experts' saw this coming....very very few. They had no special knowledge or they would have known that deregulation of banks & Wall ST and lending to unqualified buyers- had to lead to disaster at some point.
GREED blinded them all.

WHo am I? Nobody. but I saw it coming.

I told my friends to sell all their stocks and get out of the market 4 yrs ago.

I was in real estate and told all my clients not to take adjustable rate mortgages and to only buy houses if they could handle the mortgages...so far as I know no one is in foreclosure.

was I brilliant?

No.

Paying attention, yes.

Stewart is funny but right on the mark. I was reading about the real estate bubble in business news back in late 2004 and, in fact, told someone I knew who had just gotten their real estate license and was boasting about buying property and then flipping it, to be careful because prices were expected to start coming down. And if anyone has recently watched the CNN series which has aired a few times after Anderson Cooper 360 about the financial mess and your money (forget the name of it), there is such a conflict of opinion by all the talking heads appearing, you can't make head or tail out of what to do next, and that it was a surprise to many of these people who didn't see it coming.

If no one saw this coming (and plenty of people did) it was because the derivatives trading was unregulated, and for the most part done in secret.

So the CEO's of AIG and CitiBank may not have even known what those departments of the corporations were up to.

But anyone with a shred of knowledge about the Great Depression could have predicted the outcome of "deregulation."

The stock market collapse of 1929 occurred because everyone was buying stock with borrowed money.

Kind of exactly what was going on in the derivatives markets.

I get more real news from the fake newscasts of Stewart and Colbert. I know that Fox is the propaganda network of the GOP (receiving talking points from Limbaugh), but CNN should be ashamed. I don't expect CNN to walk in lock-step with the Dems, but at least call out the GOP when they continue to serve up bull crap.

Actually, Jon Stewart isn't fake news, it is just that our news is unbelievable and that in and of itself makes it funny. And it would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

He couldn't make this stuff up. Even his writers, who are the BEST, don't have that good of an imagination.

Agreed. CNN needs to call out the GOP when they lie and tell 1/2 truths. And I used to watch ' Hardball' but Matthews let's the GOP get away with some humdingers ( Lies / misstatements ) without calling them on it. Makes me so mad.
CNN 's Blitzer is good- but not many clarifications there either. PBS & C-Span are better. NPR is OK -mostly covers the view on the left- which is fine as long as it's accurate.

I think Santelli canceled on the Daily Show because he felt he might be made to look like a fool by some of the comments he made. He guaranteed that by "bailing out" on the Daily Show. I was inspired by Santelli and created an online poll so people can give CNBC some feedback

I think Hawaii5-0 is referring to Santelli's turning to the camera and saying, "Are you listening?' In other words, he was inspired to do a poll.

“Demagogues cause more damage to a nation than a drought, a hurricane and an epidemic of loose bowels!”

My psychiatrist said:
“I can only give a review of what shows and not what a personal interview would disclose. By observing his presence, a number of characteristics of his mental and emotional make up can be diagramed. His gestures are an encyclopedia of his cultural and emotional substance. I would be reluctant to ride in a vehicle driven by our man or allow him to spend any time with children. There is also instability typical of patients under drug treatment; the face contortions and lip movements obey a separate reaction from what he says. Typical bi-reflective syndrome affecting persons with serious personality disorders.”
“How about the messages he is delivering?”
“Pure demagoguery. No cultural or academic base behind any of the concepts he formulates or the phrases he uses. No doubt that he is fluid with words, but not with thoughtshis ability tp excite audiences is based on well known parameters that combine exaggeration, undefined promises and personal attacks. It is an old formula!”
“Is he a threat to the country?”
“Not really. Just another clown that has captured the attention of those that are as ignorant as he is or, possibly, even more ignorant. Our nation is not going through a period that needs such toxic distractions.”
He turned to me and concluded:
“Just forget it. Keep looking for those flies in the wall paper!”

Narcissist ? Yep there's some truth in that. Maybe this crisis will bite folks in the butt and wake them up to whats truly important in life. Its not a fancy house and car and designer clothes- although sure they're nice to have- but not a top priority. Suze Orman says People / family first-then things- then money.
Do I have that right ? I grew up in the 50's and 60's- so my generation did not have all that much- but we didn't know it. We just went outside and had fun- no video games -no TV to speak of- no CD player / MP 3- no computers. We biked we swam- we danced- we played hop scotch - on and on.
