Finally a full action packed Star Trek movie. It's about time the last ST movie Nemesis ended up killing Data in a stupid unnecessary dramatic way, I know the actor wanted out for quite some time but to kill the character... I can't wait to see what did they do rewriting the story when and how Kirk took the captain's chair of the Enterprise. Those first episodes of Star Trek could be great guidelines to make great movies. Gene Roddenberry was a brilliant guy writing and creating a series with so much narrative and potential. Many of the things he created for the series are making it's way to real life. I hope this movie is as great as I expect it to be, that kind of movie that leaves you wanting more at the end.

I am a die-hard Star Trek fan. I'm a little put off by this Trek still debating on whether or not to see this thing at the theater or wait till dvd release. I have seen the trailers for it several times. I am not impressed. Chris Pine bites as Kirk. An unamed ensign yes, Kirk, heck no. And don't get me started on that guy from Heroes portraying Spock. Ugly is not the word.

As one of the Huffington posters, Mamacat said at 8:54 p.m., " Having everyone look like a teeny-bopper is going to be weird" will be the problem. I think that is the problem that I'm having with it.

It looks geared to the teeny bopper Twilight/Harry Potter crowd, not the serious Trekkie crowd. Another slap in the face is the Romulans showing up. We true Trekkies know that Romulans weren't seen until the episode "Balance of Terror." JJ Abrahms is taking liberties where he shouldn't have.

I know they wanted a reboot of the series, but this wasn't the way to go until the other stories were told, most notably, when is Captain Sisko coming back from the Celestial Temple? It is like he is the only Star Trek Captain that they don't care if he comes back or not.

I'm just not so sure about this. It might win new converts to the genre, but it might drive away diehard fans, like me.

This household can't wait!! And, like some of the other posts here, it will be intially difficult to ignore the characters the actors have become associated with - Sylar, Shaun, and Harold especially. But I think we will cope beautifully...

Simon Pegg as Scotty should be GREAT!

Star Trek fan since I was 7 (now I'm 40). Seen them all -shows and movies (some were not great but all were good enough-maybe one or two let downs). Looking forward to a new look, new cast, new story, and new twists. I hope to enjoy a REALLY GOOD STORY for a change.

After this latest trailer, I'm definitely PSYCHED!!!

Loved JJ Abrams work for quite a while now. Unlike a lot of my friends, I haven't given up on "LOST". Love "FRINGE". And I felt his "MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: 3" was the BEST of that whole series (it was much more grounded to the TV series than the first two).

This is going to be the first "ST" film in a long time that feels like an epic FILM, not an overextended TV episode.

And in IMAX???

We finally have a Sci-Fi / Space Fantasy film in IMAX!!!
Now that's exciting!

I have never been interested in seeing any Star Trek movies or TV series, but this interests me. Will probably go see it to satisfy my curiosity.

That trailer was awesome. I've been looking forward to this film for a while now but also dreading it to. There are so many ways they could go wrong with this and putting a focus on the TOS's cast makes things a bit touchy for some people. It looks like the story could be pretty intense.

However I think some people are going to rethink what the Original Series was like. Some people I find have this off idea of what the show was like and what it was not like. It wasn't always great. There was some bad in it. It could be pretty violent as well. Lets not forget all the Kirk fights with the two fisted swings. :) For a show set in the future there was certainly a lot of hand to hand combat. On this note I'd love it if they snuck the music that took place during some of those fights into this new film or at least a version of it.

As someone said McCoy and Spock were always insulting each other but you still knew they were friends. So far from the trailer it seems we see that Kirk and McCoy become friends first which makes sense. Kirk getting close to Spock would have to take time and I always figure they would not get along initially anyway. It's what makes their friendship so interesting because of who they are they really shouldn't be friends..

I'm still a sucker for ST films. The best were #1 and 4.
08:20 AM on 03/09/2009
Me too. But I have to go with 4 (The Voyage Home) and then the final TOS film - The Undiscovered Country.

There are so many nay-sayers and nit pickers. I think it's great they're "hitting the reset" button.

Mos def. Re-imagining is the style of the 2000s, and it has worked wonders on many franchises (BSG, Batman, etcpp).

As a kid, I liked #4 best. Nowadays, I think it wasn't all that good. Today, my favourite is First Contact. But this new one looks very promising indeed, might make it to the top of my list. Let's definitely (!) see and wait.

First Contact had The Borg you can't really go wrong with that and BSG Ron Moore wrote it. Give me that package again on a new star trek TV show and I might just watch it!

Wow, a Star Trek movie that looks like it's worth a movie ticket... it's been a long time...
07:39 AM on 03/09/2009
I have to agree. Those last couple of Next Gen pictures were merely slightly better budgeted/longer TV episodes IMO. They really should have stopped that franchise after First Contact.

I gotta admit, looks like it could be cool.........though I do like the campiness of the original, but no harm in taking a new direction.
