3 million Iraqi refugees. A war that cannot end. The U.S. looks more and more like the monkey with its hand caught in the cookie jar.

The number of displaced Iraqis returning went up in 2008. On average 1,650 displaced went back each month last year. They face a huge amount of problems like receiving services, health care, power. But the two biggest issues are jobs and finding housing. According to the latest survey of internal Iraqi refugees 41.8% say they can't go back to their property. 16.7% said they don't have access, 38.7% said they don't know the status of their homes. Of those that couldn't go back 35% said it was occupied, 22.1% said their house was destroyed, 8.6% said it wasn't safe to go back, while 3% said it was taken over by the security forces or government. Joblessness amongst the displaced is extremely high and aid agencies and the government have only been able to assist a small percentage of them. For more see: musingsoniraq.blogpost.com
