Michael J. Fox Doing TV Special On Optimism

NEW YORK — Since his diagnosis with Parkinson's Disease cut short his acting career, Michael J. Fox has every reason to be a pessimist.

Instead, he's doing a special for ABC in May about the nature of optimism. Fox explores science and his own personal experiences _ he says the past decade since his diagnosis have been among his happiest. Fox starred in the sitcoms "Family Ties" and "Spin City," as well as the "Back to the Future" movie series.

For his special, Fox visits the Himalayan nation of Bhutan, which he says is unusually committed to the well-being of its citizens. "Michael J. Fox: Adventures of an Incurable Optimist" airs on May 7.

I hope the behavior of this corageous and wonderful Democrat provides effective contrast between the two parties. I also hope it reminds Americans in general of the truly ugly behavior of the Big Fat Radio Talk Show Host during the 2005 election campaign. The apology Limbaugh promised was necessetated by a specialist from Johns Hopkins' medical program who assured television viewers that there was no "acting" or "faking" in Michael J. Fox's campaign spot for the now Senator from MO. The big guy is vile and cruel--as well as long-winded. What kind of people rose to their feet cheering him a week ago Saturday? I love Fox and pray for him and his family. He does for others so admirably.

I have immense respect for this man. I was watching E-tru stories and I didn't know there was tear hiding back somewhere which flowed like a river once the hour was up. I've never done that before even for a bloody sappy movie.

I hope stem cell research can treat this man of the horrible disease that imbibes him. Such characters deserve to live longer for better of this world.
