There's been a lot of nostalgia lately for the so-called good times of yester year -- the pre-recession "aughts", if you will. And then there are the constant comparisons to The Great Depression -- from which people are even taking fashion inspiration. But every now and then it's worth it to immerse yourself in the simpler form of nostalgia, a sentimental yearning, let's call it, for simpler times, so why not let a happy little tune help you on your way?
Sweet, simple, and catchy: it's the perfect distraction. You'll be whistling it all day.
Music plays a huge role in our emotions. What are your favorite songs? What do you listen to when you're feeling down? Let us know in the comments!
And if you're curious as to the lyrics (in other words: if, unlike us, you did not spend a week in junior high french class translating and memorizing them), we've taken the liberty of re-printing them below -- in French and English.
ENGLISH:
All the boys and girls my age walk the streets hand in hand,
All the boys and girls my age know very well what it means to be happy
Staring into each others' eyes, walking hand in hand
They enjoy their time in love, not worried about what tomorrow might bring
But not me, I walk these streets alone, my soul aching with loneliness
Yes, I walk alone cause there's no one to call my own (nobody loves me)
My days like my nights are all the same,
Without joy, full of sorrow/loneliness, and nobody to whisper "I love you" into my ear
All the boys and girls my age make plans together for the future
All the boys and girls my age know what it means to be in love
Staring into each others' eyes, walking hand in hand
They enjoy their time in love, not worried about what tomorrow might bring
But not me, I walk these streets alone, my soul aching
Yes, not me, I walk alone cause there's no one to call my own (nobody loves me)
My days like my nights are all the same,
Without joy and full of sorrow/loneliness, Oh when will the sun finally shine down on me?
Like all the boys and the girls my age, will I know what it means to be in love?
Like all the boys and girls my age, I wonder, when will my day come?
When we'll stare into each others' eyes, and we'll walk hand in hand
My hear will be full of joy, not worried about tomorrow
The day when my heart wont ache anymore
The day when I too will know what it means to be in love, and I too will have someone who loves me
