I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Imagine a world in which purity rings are used to market sex to Christians. Last night's "South Park" takes you there with the Jonas Brothers' first appearance on the show. The episode focuses on the boy band's ability to make young girls sexually excited, while simultaneously telling them to be pure and wait for marriage, in order to sell albums. This becomes pretty explicit in their first number, "Love You Bay-Bay":

But whose idea was this anyway? The evil-genius behind the Disney Corporation, obviously, Mickey Mouse. He doesn't want the boys of South Park revealing his evil plan before the Jonai's big 3D concert, so he threatens them with a chainsaw as he insults Christians.

I'm not going to over-analyze it, I'm just going to say that this was one funny episode.

I found out this weekend that the Jonas Brothers really do shoot foam all over the girls at their concerts and the girls love it. I figured SP just made that up. Check it out--Unbelievable!

Another day, another pointless freakout by Matt & Trey about something that only fanboys care about 'cause it's either that or get a job.

Funny how both those shows are network and primetime while SOUTH PARK is relegated to basic cable and a timeslot seen only by insomniacs and people who don't have to go to work the next morning, huh?

I'm probably too old to be a South Park fan, but I love it and last nights was awesome, it is one of the best satires on TV. (I'm actually watching the rerun of it right now) The show equally skewers everything on both sides of the political spectrum, nothing is safe or sacred to them.

nothing is succinct, subtle, or suitable with them either.
they are just nihilists with third grade sensibilities.

I think Jonas Brothers might be pretty good if they would just do some drugs.

give it a few years - we'll be seeing these guys on future episodes of 'Confessions of a Teen Idol' or 'Celebrity Sober House.'

Nobody's gotten away with satirizing Mickey's image or using it in any context since the 60's without being taken down via massive lawsuit. Matt and Trey have just officially called Disney out.

One of the funniest episodes of South Park I have ever seen! Watch South Park on CastTV: http://www.casttv.com/shows/south-park

Why would anyone watch it on your stupid website when Southpark itself has their own episodes online for free at Southpark Studios?

That was a brilliant episode on a number of levels! SP is my favorite current show and in the last year or so I was beginning to worry that they were running out of ideas. This one showed that it's just as sharp and wonderfully nasty as ever.

sharp?
how about obvious and predictable.
and somehow they get around to pseudo-defending christians, as if they are not culpable and are being fooled by disney somehow.

I can't wait to watch this episode and find out how I *ought* to think about things!

"South Park" has become a worthless faux-libertarian smokescreen, where you can learn such valuable 'facts' as the idea that Al Gore is all alone and wildly off-base in being worried about climate change, or the notion that it isn't conservatives that lie to their kids to promote a social agenda -- it's "ultra-liberals"!

I agree. This show has become way too overt to be satirical, and they're usually wrong about the things they choose to satirize anyways.

The Jonas brothers/Disney teen-pop is a big fat target and Stone and Parker missed it by being unneccessarily crass and obvious.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:12 PM on 03/12/2009

Is this opinion based on the clips you've just seen? It was basically pointing out Disney's scheme of selling sex to kids while at the same time pretending to be wholesome. I didn't actually get that till this episode. It was a good story too, and Kenny is awesome in every episode.

So true! Clavis probably corners people on their way back to the keg to lecture them. Seems like one of those people. Everyone cringes when he walks in.

I have always found that Matt Parker and Trey Stone skewer both sides of the political divide quite successfully.

Dude. Grow up. They can do whatever they want with Al Gore. He, despite his efforts to save humanity, is really annoying.
And, as they have said, it's much more fun to make fun of liberals than conservatives because the libs don't expect it. I believe that we there should be more humor lampooning the left, even though I'm liberal myself. Otherwise, you'll get movies like "An American Carol" and some other right wing crap. When I saw the trailer to that movie, I wanted to make fun of MIchael Moore just to show that I could do it better. Thank God for shows like South Park.

not only that, but it really isn't that sharp or biting any more. it is nihilism, and insipid and childish nihilism at that.
