WASHINGTON — Don't blame the Bush administration for all the country's economic problems.

That's the message from former Vice President Dick Cheney.

President Barack Obama constantly talks about the enormous economic troubles that he inherited when he took office in January. Cheney agrees that Obama did indeed came into power amid very difficult economic circumstances.

But Cheney says he doesn't think the Bush administration can be blamed for creating the economic woes. Cheney says it's a global financial problem. He says the idea that fault can assigned to the previous administration is "interesting rhetoric" but he doesn't think people care about that.

Cheney spoke on CNN's "State of the Union."

Problem with his assertion is that Barney Frank and Chris Dodd were not even in chairman committee at the time, until 2007 when they tried to make reforms.

Republicans dominated the government from 2000-2006 and didn't make any efforts to pass legislation.

He's right about Dodd and Frank but wrong about everything else he has ever said in his life.

This only goes to show something we have become all too familiar with regarding Dick Cheney. He can say something that he knows to be an absolute falsehood without showing it in his demeanor at all. I bet he could claim 2 plus 2 is 5 while hooked up to a polygraph and it wouldn't be detected. He has no physiological response to lying.

Also - I love the way he blamed Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. As if they were in control for 8 years. As if the Bush Admin weren't able to do whatever they wanted with the rubber stamp congress. Thank goodness your reign of terror has ended Lord Vader errrrr Dick Cheney.

They came in blaming the previous administration and go out pushing their flotsam and jetsam onto the succeeding administration. What is pathetic is the trail of tears that has followed... The people out of their homes and jobs, the families mourning their soldiers killed in action.
You're absolutely right - Pathological liars can beat a polygraph all day. Why is he given a voice? Especially by CNN?!

Too bad the Conservative Wingnuts that were calling Obama the Anti Christ, didn't recognize the one they had already put into office.

Cheney's remarks confirms that he actually ran the White House (and Bush) in the prev administration.

He seems too eager to defend prev admin's failed policies while we hear nothing at all from Bush.

For Bush, history will be the judge, jury and executioner. I just wish people were this outspoken about him, his Administration and his policies 5 years ago when we needed them to be. Remember the Dixie Chicks? They were the only voice in the wilderness, and they got death threats and record burnings out of it. And don't get me started on the Congressional Democrats that passed the Patriot Act and voted to go to Iraq without questioning anything.

Point #4, main opponents of Obamas farm subsidy reduction plan? Democrat congresspeople from midwest states.

Are midwest Republicans supporting an end to corn ethanol and other wrong-headed subsidies to corporate agriculture? Last I checked, #1 corporate political donor Archer Daniels Midland was giving even more to Republicans than to Democrats.

"ADM and its signature project have never lacked friends in high places, despite a history of price fixing scandals and monopolistic misdeeds. The Andreas family, which has headed up the publicly-traded company for decades, has cultivated bipartisan support through generous donations to both Republicans and Democrats. Since the 2000 election cycle, ADM has given more than $3 million in political contributions, according to the Center for Responsive Politics: $1.2 million to Democrats and $1.85 million to Republicans. These donations may have helped sustain a multitude of government subsidies to ADM, including ethanol tax credits, tariffs against foreign ethanol competitors, and federally mandated ethanol additive standards."

It's probably because they know that if that money gets taken away from the corprate farm the bosses won't take less pay- they will just lay off more workers in order to keep the money in their pockets.

You have millions of us in complete agreement with you! Let Cheney spew his venom.....the man has been rendered inconsequential at this point and will hopefully be found guilty of war crimes in the very near future. This chicken deserves to learn first-hand about prison life.

The blame for the current economic crisis can be spread around. I first blame those in this nation who voted these criminals into office in the first place. The greatest blame of course goes to the administration itself. The core group surrounding President Bush are ethically corrupt, and Cheney heads the list. It's a shame he is given any opportunity to speak publicly regarding his stand on private freedoms. Taking all over sight away from the Banking/Financial industry did in fact set all of this in motion. The three prior administrations participated in the dismantling of the Glass/Steagall act, yet none of this occurred during those prior Republican and Democratic administrations. No, this mess lays on the heads of the "bush/cheney" administration follows suit with every other decision these miscreants made. For the record, a President can greatly effect the economy, case in point, FDR did in fact develop programs (WPA, etc.) that did bring us out of the Great Depression that was initiated by the same greed and criminal activity we have seen in the recent past.

have a good day

First, WW2 did NOT get us out of the depression. By the time of WW2 we were better off than we'd been in 1929, BEFORE the crash which led to the Depression.

Second, while I think that FDR may have been trying to get us into the war in time to do some good, I don't think that he thought that one all the way through. I also think that we would have entered the war eventually, but it may have been too late

Third, what actually ENDED the depression was the fact that after WW2 we had a HUGE industrial capacity that would have sat empty, so the people in charge decided to pay people well enough to work in their factories so that they could buy the products. Oddly enough, having a middle class worked to our advantage as a country!!!

Your no-bid contracting of government and military agencies has more than tripled the debt, Dick. So yes, Dick, we blame you and your ilk for this debt.

How do you figure that showing Mr. 13% is going to help sell ads? As soon as the viewers see it is not a story about his trial for war crimes they tune out. The transcript of his "ideas" is all we can stomach any more.
