When is he going to meet with Secular Groups like: Secular Coalition of America, American Humanists, or the American Atheists?
Why do only Christian Groups get these meetings?

President Obama and the current administration is being very inclusive by lending an ear to EVERYONE out there, not just the President's liberal base. Bipartisanship, especially to such a degree, was virtually nonexistent under the Bush Administration. There were closed door meetings that locked Democrats out. And the former administration only pandered to the most right-wing neocons teetering off the far edge of the spectrum. Even the moderate Republicans had to get in line. Bush would have never lent a special invitation to a gay rights activist, an anti-global warming environmentalist, or a member of PETA to the White House for afternoon tea with him and Laura because such far-left liberals frequently picketed GOP events. Far-right conservative FRINGE evangelicals (not most evangelicals of course, just the really far-right fringe) frequently picketed Democratic events and liberal-run institutions like abortion clinics. By inviting conservative evangelical groups to the White House, the current administration is giving this these individuals harboring substantially different political and social views, a voice. Consider this a blessing! Democrats in any degree (conservative, centrist, or far-left), Independents, and some moderate Republicans were ostracized during the last eight years. Example: If you did not support the war in Iraq, you were not an unpatriotic anti-American.

I know a lot of you are not happy about this meeting. However, I think it's actually a good sign. It's better to engage with these people rather than to shut them out. Obama was elected to represent a pro-choice stance which he has made abundantly clear. People like Wright and others from Focus on the Family will not be able to change Obama's stance. But, together they might find a place where they can work constructively on what they can agree on---reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies. I would love to see people like Wright realize that sex education, poverty reduction and making birth control readily available are far more effective than abstinence for reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies. People like Wright only focus on Roe V. Wade, not realizing that that ship has sailed. Organizations like Focus and CWA have been obstructionist on a range of issues because of their fixation wiht Roe V. Wade. I know I'm being naive here a bit as it's unlikely they will change their obstructionist stance, but at least they will have to acknowledge that Obama is bigger than they are in that he gave their views a hearing. Can they say the same that they gave his views a fair hearing?

After living in the middle east for years in the l980's, I am feeling like America is taking all the right steps (and I mean RIGHT steps) to becoming a theocracy. Everyone's voice deserves to be heard, and the voting booth is where that should originate. Do not pander to any of these groups that are chr*st*an in name only.

They have fake family values but they take real money from families.

I find it odd that the CWA is even a major factor in the GOP. The GOP is all for less government but their foundation platform of pro-life is anything but. How can government be less if it is taking a greater role in the daily lives of all Americans and at tax payer expense. What does the CWA think - that if Roe v Wade were overturned and abortion were out lawed that there would be no need for policing. Of course there would be illegal abortion clinics all over the country. Increased arrest and that means the courts would be even more overloaded. All of this because there are people in America that want to be in everyone else's bedroom.

Excellent point. Also, CWA and Focus fail to recognize that the US is a pluralistic society that represents a number of faith and 'secular' viewpoints. It is not a theocracy although they'd like to impose their morality on everyone using political means.

You know, you can be Christian and not mix politics with religion. I'm one of those people. Who knows, maybe Obama can do it, too!

What does Religion or Obama have anything to do with weakening our party.

We have enough people Congressmen and Senators who are in the closet Republicans, we don't need another Joe Lieberman, leave Specter to his own party.

This is as cynical as it gets, its prob a fake story by the right wingers to derail Specter.
Democrats don't like quiters, we wouldn't accept this guy anyways.

They do have a right to meet with Obama. I just saw Wendy Wright at the Commission on the STatus of Women, a UN meeting on women's issues. She and representatives from Focus were lobbying against a woman's right to choose. They are pretty hard core conservative evangelicals. I just hope that by meeting with Obama they are influenced to see that he is not Satan incarnate and that they might soften their stance a bit (and pigs might fly! :-) )

You need to find a new picture. That's the Rev. Luis Leon at St. John's Episcopal, Lafayette Square. Not a conservative evangelical church at all.

I hope that get him to back off some on the stem cell thing. A little restraint there is good, like not actually growing stem cells to use and only using the spare ones left over from fertility attempts. That was Clinton's policy.
Sometimes I am so disappointed in Obama. If he agrees with the evangelical right on gays but disagrees on stem cells (which is possible) then he really has lost my vote in the next election. (Republican who voted for Obama this time.)

That is truly twisted and you have truly lost your way from Christ's example of love and caring for fellow travelers through this life.

One step closer to the corruption of the government with a Theocracy.

And we just sit back and let them spend our tax dollars on pushing any religious belief...

Now the Conservatives who preach Sunday will tell their congregations that the President has offered to help them stay in their homes and those who need Employment Insurance to access it, But their Repug members of the House and the Senate, including their bloated Governors have turned down the package!! Obama is lighting the fire under the seats of Governors and Repugs who are rejecting stimulus money, with the help of Conservative Evangelical Groups!!!! You gotta love that one.

Not all evangelicals are of the Pat Robertson, James Dobson, Ralph Reed ilk. Let's hope these individuals are more "moderate" and will push the hard right ideologues (they're politicians, not Christians by any definition) into oblivion.

Good wishes jadeba, but I have to tell you I know Wendy Wright from CWA and I know some of these other ones. They are of the same ilk and are powerhouse lobbyists. I just saw Wendy at the UN Commission on the Status of Women and she and others from Focus were lobbying against women's right to choose. They aren't very reasonable. They're just reaching out to Obama in order to try and get him to change his mind.
