I dare say there are not any two people on this string who have anything to say that is in the least bit constructive, nor have any factual information about the subject matter. Just a Bush-Bash or republican bash. Well done folks, you make your parents proud! Your country is being stolen right out from under your lazy butts and all you know how to do is sling insults. The founding fathers are all so excited about what is going on. Try checking the media just one day, and see how your rights are disappearing right before your eyes. Everyone was so terrified, sure that Pres. Bush was taking rights away. It seems to be o.k. that a thug from chi-town is doing that for which he was accused, faster than would seem possible and not seeming to care who knows about it. My only consolation is that all of you are under the same umbrella as I. I can say, however, that I warned as many as I could what would be coming, therefore IT'S NOT MY FAULT!! When the crap hits the fan, you all will get hit just as I.

Here's the problem with your logic: the ones that are going to be released are the ones who are found NOT to be killers. The killers will be tried in court for their crimes.

I hate to say this but if they are released into any state and the local people know about them- not many of them will live very long. If one moves in next to my family I will make sure he knows that I will protect my family and neighbors.

If they are released then they need to go back to their home country. As the opposition to the Iraq and Afghan war say- we have no right to impose our system or beliefs on other nations. If that is the way you think, then if it "culturally" ok to torture or kill them then what right do we have to interfere with their culture.

You probably need to do a little more investigation into this issue, because I don't think you really understand what's going on. One of the main groups being considered for release are the Uighurs who are an ANTI-COMMUNIST, PRO-DEMOCRACY Chinese separatists. You may wonder, "well, why were that at GTMO?" The answer is that the Chinese call them terrorists (go figure), and because Bush loved to suck up to the Chinese, he added the Uighurs to the list of terrorist organizations, even though the Uighurs are more pro-US than the Chinese government itself.

Now, we've got the Uighurs, and the courts have been ordering their release. If they go back to China, they'll probably be executed on the spot.

It's that whole "take the moral high road," you know?

So , will these continue their terrorist acts here as those that were returned have? Maybe Pelose will take them as she wants other criminals (illegals) kept in the country... there is a place in Hyde Park that isn't being used... Maybe that lion , Sir Swimsalot can put them up

Just yell "Rush is back on" and they leave. You see Rush is a "CONSERVative" with virtually everything in his life and they blindly follow.

It must be just an education and lack of experience in life kind of thing?

They are guilty, Rummy said so.

So sad that many of these detainees have lost a significant portion of their lives because of George W. Bush. Hopefully our Democratic leaders will make their stay here in America comfortable and safe. Bush and Cheney will one day be broght up for their crimes in this matter. The military systematically rounded up these people just to prove that they can, without any question of wheter they were guilty or not.

They were guilty of one thing: not being Christian or Jewish. And for that, they were punished. I hope in my heart that those of us in the majority that broke down the barriers of race by electing President Obama will see to it to welcome these tragic individuals into their communities and fellow human being, not the so called "terrorists".

Those that don't get military tribunals should be sent back to their home country. Over 500 have been sent back. Over 100 of those remaining, we cant get their home country to take them back. Another bunch can't be sent back to their home country because the bleeding hearts say they will be tortured or killed.

It sounds cruel but I guess the new rules on the battlefield will end up being that for 'terrorists" , or anyone not wearing the uniform of a recognized army, kill them. Then we would avoid future GITMO like problems.

Or you just put them in in-country and/or battlefield detention centers like we've done in every other war.

Just sayin'.

Brilliant!! Now I understand why he was put in the Attorney General seat with brains like that...sheesh.

And will he and this administration take the deserved blame when one of those nutjobs blows up a car, building or just a group of innocent bystanders...or worse? I am sure they have prepared some defense for that scenario...like blaming it on Bush...

Reality so hard to understand little one?
Most of those inside are innocent. We have destroyed their lives for the last several years, all so that the right wing government can tell ignorant people like you that they're keeping you safe.

The only thing the vast majority of those in Gitmo ae guilty of is being in their own country, at the wrong time.

What ever happened to American values to people like you?

People with a mindset like yours has let the terrorists win - you are reducing yourself to their level of allowing their fears and prejudices guide them, not the rule of law or principle - let alone basic things like 'getting the right guy'.

If there was a way to flag your comment as "nutty as a fruitcake" that's what I'd do. "Most of those inside are innocent"?! Most were picked up on the battlefield and are enemy combatants. As such, they should ONLY be released back to their native country, with an explicit agreement that their government will deal with them. The very few who have been incarcerated for the "convenience" (read: potential threat to the American people) of the previous administration should also be returned to their native country. None of them have earned a free pass to American soil. If these Uighurs are as wonderful as they are being painted, they can apply for political asylum and, after a thorough "vetting" (an utterly meaningless term to the current majority party), might be moved to a detention center within the U.S. while their cases are reviewed by the courts. The idea of releasing any of these detainees directly onto the streets of the U.S. is insane! I hope you plan on adopting a few of these monsters for your very own.

I trust that my military did their job and imprisoned people who where doing things they deemed dangerous and so did Pres. B. So...... if you feel they deserve freedom, take them to your back yard. I don't trust them if my military doesn't.

YOUR military dropped flyers from the air all over Afghanistan promising hefty rewards for turning over "terrorists". Some fingered relatives, some fingered the barber across the street from their barbershop to get rid of competition. YOUR military, pressured by the Bush bunch, rounded them up like cattle.

And over 500 of those folks have been releases ...... many after just very short detentions per the mainline media.

OH, YEAH!

Trusting the American people to have a mature conversation IS a bit of a stretch when that conversation must include an entire culture who've been duped into allowing the rule of law, principles, honesty and human decency to go by the way side: the right wing should have no say in this - it is them that got us here.

Go to the Military Commissions web site and read the allegations against the 21 guys who DOJ can figure out are in GTMO. Noticeably absent are allegations against the more than 500 released and the additional 230 remaining. DOJ promises 60 total prosecutions, bull, the number will be closer to 25 total. Think about it, GTMO=25 guys, or even best case DOJ estimate of 60, amazing really.

Not bad for seven years of work creating a custom court system, designing imaginary laws and rules of evidence, and appointing the judge/panels. Result: In the only Commission trial a Military Panel (jury) sentenced Hamdan (one of the "worst of the worst") to six additional months confinement.

At this rate we might need use our other hand to count prosecutions within a decade or two. Who would have thought 25 guys would have such power at our expense. The strongest government case is "Rummy" said they are bad.

OK peoples we only have to look to where this article originated from ,the conservative WALLSTREET JOURNAL , I don't think the preisdent would releast any potential enemy combative into the USA this is Right Wing propaganda.

Where did it say anything about enemy combatives? the article said "detainees", many of whom are likely innocent. If people assume that all people being detained are automatically guilty, that's their problem

It was YOUR side that complained that those "innocent" detainees were now our enemy because we made them mad by detaining them...so, that means that they aren't as "innocent" as they were when we detained them, right? And releasing them HERE is an idiotic idea (if that is a true story)...

I vote for San Francisco. Or how about just over the Mexican Border where over 6,000 have been killed over the past 2 years -- with another few hundred discovered so far this year.. (Note that these numbers are considerably higher than the number of Americans killed in Iraq over the past 6 years).

So, your logic is: we capture people, we determine they didn't anything wrong, we should ensure they get killed anyway.

Fascinating.
