Mccain

The McCain family remains a tough one for the president to win over.

Half an hour or so before Barack Obama's interview on the Tonight Show was set to air on the East Coast, he was already getting criticism from Meghan McCain, daughter of John.

"Hmmm," McCain tweeted, "maybe the president shouldn't go on Leno and talk about basketball and instead explain to me how those morons at AIG got bonuses..."

Perhaps Meghan shouldn't have been so impatient with her critiques. Obama's appearance on the show was remarkably wonky for the forum. Indeed, the main topic of discussion was the very issue -- AIG -- that Meghan McCain was knocking Obama for avoiding.

As the New York Time's write-up noted: "most of the discussion was devoted -- perhaps for the first time in the show's history -- to in-depth discussions of tax policy, as well as macroeconomics and finance. And there was a reassurance from the president that the American people 'should have complete confidence in the banks,' and should not be putting their money 'in their mattresses.'"

The Tonight Show transcript finds Obama referencing AIG no less than 7 times.

Meghan McCain is a McCain and a Republican. She has given up her brain and signed on
to all the Republican drivel. Apparently she was won over by Palin. NEED I SAY MORE.!!!!!

ALL OF THIS NEGATIVITY ABOUT OBAMA'S APPEARANCE ON LENO IS TO SHUT HIM UP. THE PRESS AND REPUBS KNOW THAT THE COUNTRY BELIEVE AND TRUST HIM AND HIS PLANS.

REPUBLICANS WANT TO CONTINUE THE SAME OLD GAME OF BAIT AND SWITCH
I BELIEVE; PAYING THOSE WHO WILL PRINT WHATEVER THEY SAY AND PROMISING TO REWARD THOSE WITH MORE DE-REGULATION SO THAT THEY CAN CONTINUE TO LOOT THE TREASURY.

I heard that Murdoch had met withe a group of foreigners to discuss Barack and our economy. Of course, I believe that he is using FOX news to lie, distory and TRY TO DISCREDIT PRES OBAMA'S PLANS AND ADMINISTRATION. Even host on Fox whole programs are dedicated to the distruction of
Barack. I use to have respect for Van Susteren, now I find her DISPICABLE AND ONE OF THE MAIN
AND CONSTANT VOICES DETERMINED TO TALK THE COUNTRY DOWN.

EVERY WORD OUT OF FOX IS GEARED TOWARD TELLING HALF TRUTHS AND LIES IN ORDER TO
UPSET AND KEEP THE NATION IN TURMOIL. EVERY SINGLE DAY, THERE IS A NEW LIE OR DISTORTION OF THE TRUTH WITH THEIR SO CALLED BREAKING NEWS.

MURDOCK NEEDS ALL OF HIS LICENSES REVOKED. HE IS NOT WORKING FOR THE THE COUNTRY. HE IS COOPERATING WITH FOREIGNERS TO DISMANTLE AND DESTROY THE NATION.

Does anybody really care what this young and pretty overweight blond b-i-m-b-e-t-t-e says or thinks other than her poorly educated plane crashing daddy is in the senate from a state like Arizona? Spouting Democratic principles while claiming to be a repug? WTF? Confused identity crisis is my observation of her. She should realize that her dad was not elected POTUS because of his poor record and choice of an equally incompetent Sara Palin. duh. Hey Mehgan, how old is this planet?

It is mandatory if you are a part of the gop to always have something nasty to say about whatever Obama is doing at any given time. She's just a typical member of the gop and I'm sure she'll keep making the same sad old points that they all make.

I detect a lot of anger in today's posts. Is the anger misdirected to the latest topic of discussion because of situations that frustrate us? 'Would we be more tolerant of what other people say if the economy were
peachy creamy?
Personally I watched Miss McCain on the Rachel Maddow show, and I thought she was both good to
look at, and good to listen to. As a voice for moderate Republicans she criticized some of the
extremists like Ann Coulter. I thought when she gets a couple decades of experience she'll be a formidable politician.
As for her remarks about AIG that is something we are all concerned about. I hope she then listened to
Obama and Leno. A twitter is a twitter is a twitter.

My God, where to even start. I guess I'll start with the title of the article itself. She DID NOT slam Obama for appearing on Leno! (read the transcript again). She wanted to hear more about AIG. Now consider the fact that she was just twittering where she rarely ever says anything political, just uses it as a way to chat w/ peeps about anything, and quite possibly wasn't even paying that much attention to TV as she tweeted.
And what a bunch of misogynist fools we have here. This adult woman has a right to pursue whatever career she chooses, and I'm damn sure twittering isn't one of her goals.

This (R) has the balls to stand up to fools like Coulter & Ingrham & you slam her over one single tweet, and make it into such a big deal Huff Post has to make an article about it? Jeezus H. Christ. Grow up people. And this is comig from a (D)

Agreed. There was no slamming of the President. It sounds like she may have even be responding to someone who said that he was going on Leno to talk about ball....

When email was new, there was a lot of warning about not taking everything the wrong way until you were able to confirm with the person writing the email... Good advice. It's even harder to convey tone in a tweet than it is in email, because of the brevity and immediacy of the messages.

Please stop flying off the handle because of the exact wording of everyone's tweets. This is getting so tiresome. We need to save our outrage for real, and not imagined, insults.

Tweets are limited to 140 characters, correct? I feel silly replying to M McCain for less than a blog post but I could tweet this msg so ok.

Maybe she should check with Ron Reagan. It's okay to disagree politically with your dad. She probably longs for the days when her dad was a moderate repub.

It''s very curious that people claiming to represent the GOP are continuing this trend of attacking President Obama for doing things out of the ordinary in this extraordinary time. How many of them own a Blackberry or get their news off anything than paper and black iink? IAlso, it's too bad that Republicans have grown used to a President that can only do one thing at a time, but people we have a multi-tasker in the chair. The American people elected a man to lead us and yes, we want progress reports that are sent to us directly and not filtered through the political machine.

Her struggle to become relevant is painful to watch. Get back in the kitchen, Meghan.

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. Look at the tree she fell off of. Need I say anymore.

Maybe Meghan should take a lesson from her mom, after all, the whole standing by her man, looking pretty, but never speaking has been working for her for years.

Or like Cindy McCain providing accurate information on both her husband and Obama. She clearly didn't know her husband's record for NON-support of the troops. Such a sad little man.

I recall when "someone's" dad cancelled his appearance on Letterman to return to Washington to straighten out all of this financial mess. I recall that he couldn't get much of anything done at all. I also recall that he didn't cancel ALL of his appearances; instead showing up with Couric BEFORE leaving for Washington.

At first Ms. McCain appeared to have a genuine interest in politics, but it looks more like she's got a genuine interest in the spotlight. She kept mentioning her age on Maddow's show as if it was something to "shield" her from criticism and excuse her from potential attacks as she herself went on the attack. What she probably should have said is that she lacks maturity as opposed to referencing her age.
