Michele Bachmann: I Want People "Armed And Dangerous" Over Obama Tax Plan

First Posted: 04/23/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:10 PM ET

Controversial Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said this weekend that she wants residents of her state "armed and dangerous" over President Barack Obama's plan to reduce global warming "because we need to fight back."

Asked about the White House-backed cap-and-trade proposal to reduce carbon emissions, Bachmann told WWTC 1280 AM, "I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back. Thomas Jefferson told us 'having a revolution every now and then is a good thing,' and the people -- we the people -- are going to have to fight back hard if we're not going to lose our country. And I think this has the potential of changing the dynamic of freedom forever in the United States."

Bachmann also told her constituents she was "a foreign correspondent on enemy lines," sending Minnesotans warnings through her blog, Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace. "I try to let everyone back here in Minnesota know exactly the nefarious activities that are taking place in Washington."

The comments have been picked up by local blogs Smart Politics and Dump Bachmann.

Bachmann has encouraged resistance against President Obama before, saying that the Republican party needs "to do everything we can to thwart [the Democrats] at every turn to make sure that they aren't able to, for all time, secure a power base that for all time can never be defeated."

Michelle Bachmann is the gift that just keeps giving (and giving and giving and giving).

It kind of makes you wonder about the intellect of the average Minnesotan. The fact that a person this jaw-droppingly stupid could not only be elected to congress, but re-elected!

It boggles the mind!

The language of the far right these days is chilling to say the least. And do not forget, many of these idiots are armed and dangerous. Many of them have been calling for a revolution. Is that why the sales of assault weapons have skyrocket lately?

I need a drink.

Minnesota consistently votes Democrat. It's Bachmann's district that has an unusually large
population of dedicated neocons. If you had visited Minneapolis and St. Paul during the last
Presidential campaign season, you would have seen Obama signs outnumbering McCain's by
at least a margin of 10-1. Despite the fat cat loyalties of our barely elected Governor, this is a good state with more than its share of bright people. Thank you.

The shooter in Pittsburgh that killed 3 police officers on Saturday 04/04/09 said he was afraid Obama was going to take his guns.

The good Congresswoman wanted Citizens armed and dangerous, looks like she got her wish!! Representative Michele Bachmann owes the families of the slain Pittsburgh Police Officers an apology for her hate speech.

Not the brightest bulb on the tree. Oh the irony.

Bachmann introduced the Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act, to repeal the nationwide phase-out of conventional light bulbs. She argued that the government has no business telling consumers what kind of light bulbs they can buy. "By 2012, incandescent light bulbs will be no more," Bachmann said. "Fluorescent bulbs are more polluting because of their mercury content. We are working on a light bulb bill. If the Democrats can hose up a light bulb, don't trust them with the country."

One fine piece of legislation.

Michelle Bachmann must be prosecuted and locked up for life.

There is a part of this great nation that is insane. They are the neo con faction.

The far right is our cancer, as a nation.

What happens when you lock up EVERYBODY that disagrees with you? Is that FREEDOM?

I want to see a public condemnation of Representative M Bachman's call to arms and revolution against those ELECTED to hold office. By her own admission, her words ARE NOT metaphoric. To have a sitting member of the U.S. Congress spew such incendiary remarks is irresponsible, dangerous, and an act of treachery that should not be ignored.

Has Ms. Bachman ever heard of the word "Treason"? She is dangerously close!

To all of the voters in America: We have to take responsibility and learn about these candidates and vote responsibly. Not just on how they look,,,but a really indepth resume of their past, their present, who they really are. As if we were hiring them to be a member of our family on a daily basis.

It seems many times after some politicians are elected we can see that they are really not capable of doing the job. Mental health problems,,greed, or just not really smart enough to handle the task!!!!

I'm glad that Michelle Bachmann has time to worry about fighting Obama's global warming plan, EVEN AS HER FELLOW MINNESOTANS ARE BEING BURIED UNDER ICE JAMS AND UNPRECEDENTED FLOODING.

Does this woman ever look at the news? Apparently she's a foreign correspondent to reality, too.

Michelle Bachman is a loose cannon and about as irresponsible as Bill O'Reilley when it comes to making statements that suggest assassination or the use of violence in getting what they want. This woman needs to be censured by the Congress for her unprofessional, and sometimes insane, behavior!

"censured by the Congress" ? -- She needs to be *indicted for incitement to riot* !

Let her be the first.

I'm so glad the repugs have Bachman to keep reminding people why we must keep them out of the White House.
08:53 AM on 03/25/2009
"armed and dangerous" and "fighting back"... sounds like incitement to violent revolution to me. We have a word for that around here.... treason.
10:03 AM on 03/25/2009
Violent revolution isn't treason. The message this whacko is sending out to any other whacko who will listen, is to kill the president. That's a call for murder.
