ABC News:

Israel has conducted three military strikes against targets in Sudan since January in an effort to prevent what were believed to be Iranian weapons shipments from reaching Hamas in the Gaza Strip, ABC News has learned.

Earlier this week, CBSNews.com was the first to report that Israel had conducted an airstrike in January against a convoy carrying weapons north into Egypt to be smuggled into the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.

Israel has a right to defend itself from violent Islam.

The Palestinians have a right to defend themselves from violent Russian immigrants.

Not by targeting civilians or waging geno cidal wars, they don't. Nor do they have the right to deny anyone their human rights. And those things are and have been the stated intentions of the armed Palestinian factions that you support.

And what right have you to criticize the Arab League for not complying with the ICC arrest warrant when Israel doesn't even recognize the authority of the ICC??? Actually, Israel is no better than them.

It's a little hypocritical don't you think? It's wrong for both Israel and the U.S. not to recognize the ICC's authority, to defy International Law and the rule of law.

I think Bashir should be arrested, but I also think that Israel should be prosecuted for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The proof is there and hopefully it's just a question of time.

Don't laugh too soon; he who laughs first often ends up laughing last.

You are comparing two very different things, going with "And what right have you..." Why does not he has a right to criticize?

A number of states have not joined ICC, including India, China, Russia.

I personally would like us to join ICC (though would still look again more into details). But Darfur is really a serious matter, considered by ICC or by anybody else. Not that I would use any "HAHAHA", or imply that all Arab leaders are bad... But I think most of them deserve not any less critique than Israel.

Of course, you've missed the part where nothing got done at the conference because a lot of the member states merely sent low level dignitaries and Egypt didn't even bother to send anyone. So actually, except for the host Qatar, Bashir is being largely snubbed. Of course, I only got that because I listen to public news. The corporate news feeds seem to be neglecting those particular facts.

"nothing got done at the conference"

I'll say. They didn't even arrest the guy responsible for the geno ccide on Darfur, even tho he was sitting there in the room.

Glad to see Israel protecting its civilian population by all means necessary!! Funny how the Sudan is so "hush-hush" on this subject!!! Helping arm terrorists does NOT help them with America, whose cash they desperately need!!

After the warm welcome of Bashir by Arabs and fellow African leaders and their refusal to extradite him for his genocide I am about at the point where anything you drop on Sudan is going to get little more than a cursory glance from me. I would prefer people not drop them on women and children but if anyone wants to bomb the regime in Sudan it is perfectly fine with me.

I do however find it ironic that the Israeli's will bomb him for his support of Hamas but not the genocide in Darfur.

The Palestinians are stealing land on the West Bank. The West Bank is a hornet's nest of settlers who terrorize Palestinians and commit human rights abuses against them. All this is well-documented. Israel is stealing the Palestinians own water to fill the settlers swimming pools and water their lawns. They are building modern roads over more Palestinian land and installing more and more checkpoints to protect those thieves and thugs that are committing these crimes against humanity. The Palestinians see this grave injustice and their condition worsen by the day and they are convinced and rightly so that the Israelis don't want peace, don't want a two-state solution, don't want them to have any rights, but instead want to keep them imprisoned on their land while they steal their land and violate their rights. So how can anyone in their right mind not expect them to resist this injustice when the world turns a blind eye and does nothing??? Even Israel would resort to all the same means to fight back, and guess what? It did. The state of Israel was born and bred with terrorism and bloodshed. The pot is now calling the kettle black.

It takes one terrorist group to create a rival terorist group. Israel's founders belonged to a terrorist group which has merely moved on to "state terrorism".

Israel will do what is necessary.
If it means war with Iran, so be it.
If it means going to Uganda , as they did in Entebe, or Sudan, so be it.
They will kill before being killed.
I think its a reasonable stategy.
Lay down your weapons and talk.
Or arm yourself and suffer the consequences.
03:28 AM on 03/29/2009
The last time somebody laid down their weapons and cooperated with Israel, it was Hamas and the cease fire and it culminated in Israel killing nearly 1500 Gazans. Israel obviously isn't interested in sincere diplomacy. They just want their precious lebensraum.

Hamas never set down its weapons, that you believe such stuff is an indicator of your willingness to ignore facts for Arab propaganda.

Fewer and fewer people are impressed by this kind of macho bravado.

Singing the old songs about Entebbe won't cut it, and wiping out a column of supplies in mighty Sudan won't sop new supplies from finding a route into Gaza. The US had much greater power than Israel, and used it, and still was unable to keep the weapons from reaching South Vietnam from the north and west.

All israel can reliably do is kill thousands of civilians, which it will continue to do.

Go ahead, Israel, attack Iran and see 40 percent of the world's oil stop flowing. The economic impact of that may spell the end of the Zionist state sooner than later. The Chinese, among others, will be highly displeased, they need relatively inexpensive oil. If you thought the old USSR made trouble for israel, just try the Chinese.

The future is taking shape. From Wikipedia:

In the past several decades, emigration (yerida) has seen a considerable increase. From 1990 to 2005, 230,000 Israelis left the country; a large proportion of these departures included people who initially immigrated to Israel and then reversed their course . . .

Meanwhile, the Palestinian population increases steadily, even Israel can't kill people fast enough to alter the picture.
08:24 PM on 03/29/2009
"All israel can reliably do is kill thousands of civilians, which it will continue to do."

Israel has yet a long way to go to kill as many Palestinians as the Palestinians themselves have killed.

"Fewer and fewer people are impressed by this kind of macho bravado."

Thing is, they aren't trying to impress anyone, just trying to keep Hamas from getting more and better rockets to shoot at civilians. I can't understand why someone who supports human rights, as you surely do, would be against that or in favor of anyone targeting civilians.

Fortunately no American business interests were harmed otherwise America might have to consider whether such Israeli acts were criminal murder and/or terrorism like other acts.

Every punk killer has an excuse. The Israeli killers are no different.

Israel has no right whatsoever to violate the borders of any sovereign nation to inflict its collective punishment on the inhabitants. There are procedural guidelines all members of these organization agreed to comply with to redress their perceived grievances, the same organizations that Israel clamoured to join.

Israel’s 1967 ME war meant all land seized during the pre-emptive invasion must be returned. Israel has compiled with some of the resolutions they inked with the UN the Arabs but instead of complying with their other obligations have set out to circumvent the UN and ferment never ending wars.

We all watched helplessly as the Wall Street robber barons and banksters in their frenzied, unbridled assault and greed precipitated the collapse of the World Financial Markets. Equally, Israel’s unbridled and unrestrained attacks on independent nations will herald in a calamitous collapse of World Peace.
02:23 AM on 03/29/2009
I guess when Egypt had a naval blockade preventing Israeli ships from Eilat wasn't an act of war. Also place troops on the borders while saying that they will put the Jews in the sea... Also Jordan & Syria attacked first; the only pre-emptive was against Egypt.

What you call Syria in Lebanon, US attacking Iraq, Grenada, Panama etc, the Brits in the Falklands, Iran (Hezbollah) in Lebanon, etc. do I really need to keep going...

And speaking of occupation and on soveriegn land - why are American on my LAND? Unless you're Lakota, Shoshone, Apache or any other Native American you're on my Sovereign Land.

Get my drift pilgrim....
03:29 AM on 03/29/2009
I'm pretty sure the Samu incident preceded all of that, chief. And that's only one example of how Israel fired the first shot in that war.
09:24 AM on 03/29/2009
Your situation is akin to the Palestinians, not to the israelis, who are alien interlopers from other continents.

Even when there are no civilian casualties and the threat to Israel is real, israel is still in the wrong. When can they ever be in the right then?
07:20 PM on 03/28/2009
No civilian casualties? I'm sorry, were these people in this convoy wearing military uniforms? Because unless they were, they were criminal suspects. Israel destroyed evidence, bypassed due process and violated national sovereignty. And we still don't even know all of the facts surrounding this incident yet -- but in any case, those factors still stand.

You sound like someone who has never been to the Middles East or Africa.....just spend your days at a keyboard. If you are an American you might ask yourself why your country sees fit to maintain thousands of military installations around the world rather worry about the interdiction of some Jihadi arms smugglers in the Sudan
07:59 PM on 03/28/2009
The foundation of the Israeli state was carried out by colonial powers and imposed on the indigenous population, without regard to their opinion -- Lord Balfour said that directly.

The Israeli state was designed as a state which only Jews would control. Delete the word "Jews" and substitute "white people" and the situation is clear -- it's an apartheid state.

Therefore, israel, constituted as a Zionist state, is "wrong," if you prefer that terminology. Were its people to form a democratic state that embraced both Jews and Arabs, and resettled the original families driven from their homes, then it would not be "wrong." The South African whites renounced apartheid, the Israelis can do the same.

Can't make it clearer than that.

News for the Hamastanis here:
Israel is a state where Jews and Arabs and Druze and christians live in a reality harmony and prosperity. And no amount of teeth gnashing will change that.
Thousands of Israeli Palestinains are right now clamoring to get Israeli citizenship
About same amount of Jews were evicted from Arab countries as Arabs from Palestine.
There's cosmic justice in that.

Bottom line: Palestinains will not have a state untuil they will put their arms down.
And you can talk until you blue inn the face and this fact will remain the same.
Israeli is getting stronger. While even Arabs are tiring of putting up with Palestinian lack of political maturity and belligerence.
10:04 PM on 03/28/2009
1,Fact Jews are indigenous to Israel, Judea and Samaria, Jordan and other areas. There's absolutely no way of getting around it.
Fact: Many of those who now call themselves Palestinains to skim off U.N. money arrived in Palestine round the time as the second first wave of Jewish immigrants.
Fact: These foreign laborers came because Jewish investment and hard work transformed the sleepy backward area of Ottoman Empire and created demand for blue collar labor. These laborers arrived from all over Ottoman Empire. Not Palestinains.

Again not all are Fascists...

Let Israel take care of its own affairs from now on. If Israel wants to attack a sovereign nation like Sudan, then so be it. But there's a flip side, stop coming to the U.S. hat in hand for support and relying on welfare (foreign aid) from U.S. taxpayers. Israel rarely listens to the U.S. anyway, so I say do your thing, but stop whining and playing the victim card. For those folks in the U.S. that are appalled at those who don't tow the Israel policy line, you can do more for that nation by immigrating to it and becoming citizens who would then be able to personally have an impact on the country's future. Or it is easier to play the victim card in the States without ever having to put yourself on the line physically. As long as Israel has nuclear weapons Persia will never stop trying to produce its own. Anyway who died and left Israel in charge of what other countries can and can not do. Israel does what it wants when it wants and does not care about international opinion so why hold Persia to a higher standard. I say Persia because folks tend to forget that the Persian culture that comprises most of Iran has been around about as long as the Jewish culture if not longer.
06:14 PM on 03/28/2009
Not true... Please read some history...

Second Persia had its name changed by Sha's Father to Iran, because he was allied to the Nazis and like Hitler thought that the Persians were Aryan; Iran means Aryan in Farsi.

Second per capita; the Palestinians have received more aid than another nation.

Also much too the demise of many posters here, the US dictates much of its policy toward Israel and not the other way around. It is the US who plays its money like Capone to influence its policies. Israel is under the US thumb and not the other way around. And AIPAC may be a strong lobbyist, but oil talks! Why were all of Bin Laden's family allowed to leave the US after 911? Why in the 80's when Israel kicked out the Syrians of Lebanon told them hold back at the Litani? Why when the Israelis had Arafat in their crosshairs they didn't put him out? In 73 war when Israel wiped out the Egyptian army and Syrian Army and were now on there way to their respective capitals, the US (Nixon) told them to halt? Why in 56 when the Israelis capture the Sinai the US (Eisenhower) told them to return it? Please... Please... People here need some history... As the Tao says don't speak too much or your ignorance will be as common as the grass.

I knew that I would reel one of you in. You are so busy being an apologist for Israel that you can instantly tick off the offenses of everyone else. Yet, you failed to address any of the salient points of my post. Israel attaked a sovereign nation, Sudan. This is an act of war. Israel is a sovereign nation. Why should the U.S. taxpayer subsidize a country that has in the past several years committed acts of war against two sovereign governments; Syria and Sudan. If you believe in the cause of Israel what are you still doing in the States. They could use you over there. You ticked off selected events in history, but you famously left out Lehi's terrorist bombing of the King David Hotel. See you are not the only one that can selectively recount history. The Balfour Declaration would be another great starting. Before you start pointing fingers try dealing with Israel's transgressions first. The Tao also says do not make yourself look like an idiot trying to use diversionary arguments as wisdom.
