I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Last night's episode of "The Simpsons" was about second weddings and bridezillas, but the opening sequence featured a chalkboard gag that mocked the bailouts. Bart wrote "My piggy bank is not entitled to TARP funds," over an over again before hearing the school bell ring and heading for home.

Bart writes a different sentence on the blackboard each week, past gags have included: "No one cares what my definition of 'is' is," "Spitwads are not free speech," "My homework was not stolen by a one-armed man," "Cursive writing does not mean what I think it does," and "I was not touched 'there' by an angel."

Watch the opening sequence and full episode here.

"The Simpsons" has been my favorite show ever since it debuted. It evolves with whatever's going on the world. It was inevitable that they would allude to the bailouts.

I've mostly hated the Simpsons since around Season 12, but way to go, Bart!

They also bailed out the French Club in last night's episode. "It's too big to fail!"

The number of people that have grown up watching the Simpsons rivals the number of members on facebook. The Simpsons are an icon for several generations with generations more coming. Kudos to making corporate dealing (always being shady dealings) part of the annals of infamy. The Simpsons immortalized this fact.

FOX NEWS AT WORK through FOX TV NETWORKS??? lol it took them long enough. I THOUGHT FOX NEWS WAS GOING TO ATTACK OBAMA THROUGH THE SIMPSONS A LONG TIME AGO. This is an attack by the right, very carefully done with humor. They'll bring obama's popularity numbers down, some how, some way. EVEN IF IT TAKES USING ONE OF THE BIGGEST CARTOON ICONS ON TV.

Even if it takes writing in caps for no reason about nothing at all.

FOX the broadcast channel is completely different to fox news, no ailes, no beck no hannity no o'reilly. And in an episode last year Homer voted for Obama and then got killed by a rigged voting machine, how is that supporting the right? Simpsons hit the right at least as much as they hit the left, if not more. Criticizing the simpsons for being biased against democrats just makes us look stupid because they are not biased and people stop listening when we bring up actual real bias in fox news and other sources.

Future historians should not neglect the parodies and satires embedded into animated series like The Simpsons and Family Guy. Both these shows do a great job of timely social commentary that tugs the roots of our time.

Ha-ha. I actually caught that last night, despite my not having watched the show in ages. The episode was really quite funny.
