Excellent. As long as Sweden doesn't evaporate into complete chaos within the next year or so, we will have proof of a first-world democracy allowing gay marriage without triggering the Apocalypse.
And of course, the far right will reject that proof...but at least we'll have proof.

"A majority of bishops in the Church of Sweden in February said the church should no longer handle legal registrations of marriage." - It's only a matter of time, ~a decade (maybe longer if the economy remains poor and people need to scapegoat gays for their financial problems and bad marriages) before church and state in American establishes clear and separate roles on this issue. The legal aspects will be handled for everyone by the city. And for those who want the additional ritual of church marriage, great. Gays and lesbians will just need to select denominations who don't discriminate.

Now it makes sense why the repubs spout off about Sweden.

I was surprised they knew there was a country named Sweden, after all, isn't it all about America with them?

Who cares what the rest of the world does or think.

Funny-now they like France but now hate Spain and I bet they hate Sweden.

america is so far behind on civil rights. and Obama is not helping ,when he is afraid to tackle the real issues facing us ,in regards to personal freedom. same old -same old. LGBTs,marijuana reform advocates, the auto workers, and anti-war groups, are being shoved aside for political expediency, and capitulation to religious interests. will we ever see real change? i'm not so sure, anymore. we need a hero.
