Republican Caller Tells Limbaugh: "You're A Brainwashed Nazi" (AUDIO)

First Posted: 05/08/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:15 PM ET

Media Monitor Cathy Talbot tipped us off to an on-air smackdown that transpired today between Rush Limbaugh and one of his callers, who criticized the talk radio host for hurting the Republican party's fortunes and supporting the practice of torture. The caller, Charles, identified himself as a Republican and a veteran, who "really didn't want to see Obama get in office." From there, he let loose, especially on the torture issue, telling Limbaugh, "We're not supposed to be torturing these people. This is not Nazi Germany, Red China, or North Korea." He then added, "I hate to say it...but I think you're a brainwashed Nazi."

This did not go over well, at all! Limbaugh shot back with a brainwashing accusation of his own, and blamed Charles and people like him for Obama winning the election. "I didn't vote for him," Charles protested, "I voted for McCain. I voted Republican." No matter. Rush signed off by saying, "Charles, Barack Obama is president of the United States today because of stupid, ignorant people who think like you do. You pose -- you and your ignorance are the most expensive commodity this country has."

Media Matters has the audio, so, judge for yourself:

[LISTEN.]

[TRANSCRIPT.]

LIMBAUGH: We're going to go to Chicago. This is Charles. Charles thank you for waiting and for calling. Great to have you here. Hello.

CALLER: Thanks Rush. Rush listen, I voted Republican and I really didn't want to see Obama get in office. But you know Rush, you're one reason to blame for this election, for the Republicans losing. First of all, you kept harping about voting for Hillary. The second big issue was the torture issue. I'm a veteran. We're not supposed to be torturing these people. This is not Nazi Germany, Red China, North Korea. There's other ways of interrogating people, and you just kept harping about, it's okay, or it's not really torture. And it was just more than waterboarding. Some of these prisoners will killed under torture.

And it was crazy for you to go on and on like Levin and Hannity and Hewitt. It's like you're all brainwashed. And my last comment is, no matter what Obama does, you will still criticize him because I believe you are brainwashed. You're just -- and I hate to say it -- but I think you're a brainwashed Nazi. Anyone who can believe in torture has got to be -- there has got to be something wrong with them.

LIMBAUGH: You know --

CALLER: And I know Bush wanted to keep us safe and all of that but we're not supposed to be torturing these people.

LIMBAUGH: Charles, if anybody is admitting that they are brainwashed it would be you.

CALLER: No, no, Rush. I don't think so. You, Hannity, and Levin are all brainwashed --

LIMBAUGH: Charles, you said at the beginning of your phone call that you didn't want Obama in there. But you voted for him because of me.

CALLER: I didn't vote for him. I voted for McCain. I voted Republican.

LIMBAUGH: Oh, so you're saying I turned people off --

CALLER: You turned people off with all this vote for Hillary and all this BS.

LIMBAUGH: That was Operation Chaos. That was to keep the chaos in the Democrat primaries --

CALLER: It didn't work and what we have with you Hannity Levin and Hewitt is sour grapes. That's all we have. And believe me, I'm not -- I'm more to the right than I am to the left.

LIMBAUGH: Oh, of course you are.

CALLER: I am.

LIMBAUGH: Of course you are. You wouldn't be calling here with all of these sour grapes if you weren't.

CALLER: Well I'm tired of listening to go on and on with this --

LIMBAUGH: I don't know of anybody who died from torture.

CALLER: We're not supposed to torture people. Do you remember World War II, the Nazis? The Nuremburg trials?

LIMBAUGH: Charles, Barack Obama --

CALLER: What's the matter with you? You never even served in the military. I served in the Marine Corps and the Army.

LIMBAUGH: Charles, Barack Obama is president of the United States today because of stupid, ignorant people who think like you do. You pose - you and your ignorance are the most expensive commodity this country has. You think you know everything. You don't know diddly squat. You call me a Nazi? You call me someone who supports torture and you want credibility on this program? You're just plan embarrassing and ludicrous. But it doesn't surprise me that you're the kind of Republican that our last candidate attracted. Because you're no Republican at all based on what the hell you just said right here.

So, military service and opposition to things like torture and juvenile primary season stunts are values that lie outside Limbaugh's definition of "Republican." Good to know, I guess!

I listened to the audio several times, and I kept missing the parts where the alleged Republican caller landed these awsome upper cuts to Limbaugh. That was a staged call all the way. If any of you commenters actually listened to Limbaugh you would realize that. Even if you did realize it, you wouldn't acknowledge it, because fact, truth and validity interfere with the liberal's anger filled fantasy land. Limbaugh was silent most of the call because there's nothing to say to audio without benefit of intellect. The very few words Limbaugh spoke hardly indicated the caller had him on the ropes. He dispatched the caller affirmitively and accurately as he has done many times in 20 years. You liberals sit, on alert, with your fingers resting on the home keys, waiting to launch a keyboard attack on the first conservative person, group or issue that shows in the cross hairs. You use your arsenal of typical liberal anger, hate, race baiting and DNC talking points. What an embellished fantasy world you liberals exist in - comfortable and secure in your chronic anger and spite toward those lesser life forms who just aren't sophisticated enough to "get it." You sound like a bunch of sniveling sissies. If you all are either that stupid to accept that call at face value or so desperate for the chance to use your liberal hate vocabulary in print then just stay in your corner and high five each other and celebrate your brilliance.

HaHaHa... Love the uninformed seminar callers acting like Republicans. Naziism was a socialist movement focused on workers rights and overthrow of big businesses. Hitler campaigned as a friend to the poor and the common worker and got broad based support. Therefore if you want to make political comparisons to Nazis it would be more correct to compare to Obama, the one who appealed to the poor and the middle class and is now nationalizing banks and businesses, than Bush or republicans.

Your premise is obviously false, therefore your conclusion is irrelevant and embarrassing.

Did you go "teabagging" on April 15th too?
05:47 PM on 04/20/2009
Nope, premise correct. Crack a history book. Hitler nationalized the banking system as it was largely run by jews. He also focused on rebuilding Germany's infrastructure, and many more Obama comparisons could be made. He himself professed to be trying to create a better socialist state. Anyway can't debate ignorance, so continue to revel in it.
09:07 PM on 04/20/2009
Premise totally true. Hitler was a socialist, crack a textbook. And he not only nationalized the banks but also spent heavily on infrastructure just as we are currently doing. I'm not trying to compare Obama to Hitler just saying if you want to make comparisons you should give up your partisan hatred of W and look at the facts. Yourself, the uninformed, are the ones who are embarassing.

I'd love to see Christopher Hitchens commenting on this....

Let's get one thing perfectly clear: There is a Republican/Conservative unpublished but wholly supported position regarding the Obama Administration.
o Do anything possible to assure that the Obama stimulous plans do not work. Even if it means two
to five million more Americans lose their jobs, that would be helpful for the Conservative cause. It's
not important whether or not this recession ends; it's only important for conservatives to regain the
power lost in the last two elections.
o Hope for a major terrorist attack on the United States. While the arguement is that the Obama
Administration is soft on security...even though it's not, right wing talk show hosts and conservative
members of Congress truly would love to see a terrorist attack on American soil. Even if it can be
proven that the planning of such an attack occurred during the Bush Administration, there's enough
right wing pundits to shift all the blame to President Obama.
o Sadly, there appear to be right wing talk show nutjobs who would welcome an assasination
attempt on President Obama's life. If successful, these right wingers would welcome rioting so
that they can mobilize enought white support to bring the conservatives back in power. If there's an
assassination attempt on President Obama, right wing talk show hosts will claim that he brought it
upon himself.

Rush said ' becasue of ignorant people like the caller ' Obama is President. N O
Its because voters were disgusted and angry at what the GOP has done to us for 20 of the last 28 years that they have been in power. And sick of the Reagan / Bush policies of deregulation of banks / Wall st that set the stage for this meltdown. Bankers/ WAllst did business unethically- sold ' junk ' securities they labeled as ' TRIPLE A ' That USED TO BE ILLEGAL-NO MORE.
Rush / Hannity / Cheney / Rove & CO- have a VESTED INTEREST in keeping the GOP in control. Lies / smears what ever it takes to retain power / control. That's how GOP & CO got incredibly wealthy under GOP ' leader ship '. Giving Huge tax breaks- to big oil / pharma / & Co's who shipped jobs overseas-while leaving us the crumbs.. ( trickle down theory ) From Reagan's policy to now - deregulation policy allowed dishonesty- lack of ethics- and flat out greed.

I like how at the end Rush says that he is wrongfully accused of supporting torture.

That caller really rattled him.

Rush seemed frustrated that he could not refute the caller.
I laughed at Rush saying, "I never knew anyone who died from torture." The caller got the best of Rush here.
04:26 PM on 04/11/2009
"I never knew (of) anyone who died from torture" has got to be the stupidest of his many, many stupid remarks.

Unbelievable. What ever happened to the regulations of the "public airwaves"? Do we have Reagan's deregulation to "thank" for this fool being inflicted on America?

The polish is starting rub off and the ugly is shining through for guys like Rush Limbaugh - once Obama has firmly established himself as an effective and principled president these buffoons will fade into the background noise, where they richly deserve to be.

Hey folks, Don't you know that "heresay" isn't even admissible in court?? Why do you believe what someone else says about Rush Limbaugh?

Tune into the show and make up your own mind. That's what smart people do!
People who are not so smart listen to what others say about Rush Limbaugh and then go around repeating it. I wouldn't want to be manipulated like that.

Rush has been quoted on cable news - and even shown on his radio program- many times- so we are aware of what his show is all about. Without lies / misinformation/ insults of DEms- what would they do ? Rush isa one trick pony. If OBama does well - Rush will get more and more desperate but will always have his ' ditto heads ' . Rush has never stated the whole truth on why this meltdown occurred- and that Reagan / Bush policy of deregulating banks / Wall st- put us on the road to this disaster. I respect truth - and Rush does not deliver.

Charles sounded really, really sane to me. Nope, there's no way he was brainwashed.
Although I have to say the reason I voted for Obama was because of McCain and Palin.
I don't listen to Limbaugh except what I hear on Countdown and on here and on the Daily Show, so I can't judge if he treated this caller exceptionally bad, or does he treat everybody who doesn't believe his sick doctrine.

Limbaugh is a clown. Examine his background and credentials. He’s a loser with no more authority on any issue than the man on the moon. Why Limbaugh receives rent space at the public trough is a disgrace.

The truth is, Limbaugh in his death throes, scared to death and knows the truth, there is no one left to resurrect their evil doctrine under the fraudulent label of the Republican brand. Because the only people who gave the Republican’s credibility are all but dead belonging to my Father & Mother’s generation who lived through depression#1 and WW II.
Their history! There’s not enough left to do squat.

Ones left like Charles, are angry as hell,They allowed bomb-throwers like Limbaugh, O’ Reilly etc to foment hate and fear mongering that served to discredit the Republican party and the values once represented.

The philosophical machine of the Republican party was co-opted by extremist RW demagogues,( National Socialists Germany 1933-45 ) IE., Greenwood & his Christian Coalition mobilizing Christian voting blocs to stuff ballot boxes and change blue states in the south to red states. They adopted a political strategy to control Congress with Gingrich and the Contract with America beating the propaganda enterprise.

That’s history as the American electorate realized the destruction of the American fabric, once the envy of the world.

Best thing to happen to the Republican Party- abandon Limbaugh from any association to their values.
