So now the guilty party comes forward, but only after the evidence is shown to the world forcing the IPCC to take action. Dont think for a second this guy didnt know it was him who attacked Tomlinson, he's only come forward now in an attempt to save his own arse now he's caught in the act. Still they dont charge police for shooting innocent people in the head so shoving someone he'll probably get a f*^%%ng medal.

I wish I could be happy that I was right about this. If anything, I'm even more furious than ever before after seeing it for myself in all of it's color. I had pretty much known the outcome, just seeing it really drives it home. Heinous, despicable. These are the very people charged with protecting us, maintaining order, looking out for the public safety and being role models for civil behaviour. This sickens me, saddens me and I can only hope that some measure of justice is brought about.

SOL, why is your _first_ reaction to shout 'nonsense.' _Before_ checking the details?

Plus, I thought Tories were opposed to the EU.

Or are you Tony Blankley or Christopher Hitchens -- England's Ne0c0n exports to the US.

This story was broken by The Guardian, a respected newspaper, not The Times, a mouldering pile of dross. Can you correct your article please.

Everything this site has said from day one - apart from the bit about being a protester - has proven right.

The Guardian has also - wonderfully and civically - posted the video to YouTube. So you can embed it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HECMVdl-9SQ&feature=channel_page

It's not The Times, it's The Guardian — which Arianna has expressed her admiration of. Times is owned by Murdoch, Guardian by an independent trust.

Correction, moderators?

I can't believe that there are people commenting either defending the cop, or saying the guy deserved it.

Just unbelievable.

Those people are just tr0//s hoping to incite a lot of anger and drama.

I think it takes a machine not to be touched by this senseless act of aggression against an entirely innocent passerby.

"When he does not move out of their way"...

Nice balanced reporting... the video's right there... there is like a football field's worth a space around this guy, he wasn't in anyone's way except maybe the dog, and the dog showed some real composure...

Baton his legs, bruises send clotting material right up your leg to your congested heart... heart attack...

Brutality and manslaughter...

I think he knew what was going on. He should have took an alternate rout like most people do when they KNOW a traffic jam or a mob in this case is blocking your normal way home. Come on, common sense.

What if he lived on the street that the protesting was taking place on? There were many people on that street that were watch from their apartment windows. Go back and look at the footage.

You're a bozo emstrem, and if you actually read the article, your reading comprehension needs some work.

He gets up, walks away, and later dies of a heart attack.
I think that says more about the British health system than the police.
12:14 PM on 04/08/2009
Yeah right. "Socialized medicine" killed him. Nice rethug spin on the back of a dead man.
06:13 PM on 04/19/2009
He didn't die from a heartattack, he died from internal bleeding.

My sister and I (two gals in our late 50's) drove from central Idaho to Denver last year, because her son had scored us tickets to watch Obama's acceptance speech. The police presence, in full riot gear, was downright scary, and it was EVERYWHERE.
Those police weren't there to protect the next president as much as they were there to harass citizens. I felt like I was in a police state, and I was.
We all are.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Was it worth it?
06:23 AM on 04/08/2009
"Play games" ? You are of course aware that the murder victim was just a harmless bypasser, going home from work?

I remember watching Palemoon posting about this being a deliberate killing. And making those wild accusations of police misconduct. Little did I know that she really knew.

Check it out, she called that shot better than Babe Ruth. I can only imagine how she's going to blowup when she wakes up later today.

But she's right, after watching alot of the video myself, I feel the police did a pretty heinous thing in corralling everyone up and denying them the ability to leave the scene. This was bound to happen with heavy handed behavior like that. A total disregard for the public safety, and as the video points out, they deliberately attacked someone who wasn't even a protestor. There needs to be some murder charges bandied about on at least one of those officers. That was cold blooded murder. They caused the man bodily injury, he later died as a result. I see that as no different than a drunk driver injuring someone, then the person dying later from the injuries.
