people.com:

A few days ago, John Travolta and Kelly Preston threw a birthday party for their daughter Ella Bleu, who turned 9 on April 3, "just as they would any other year," says a close friend of the family.

And yet this year has been marked by deep tragedy for John, 55, and Kelly, 46, who are still reeling from the sudden loss of their only son Jett on Jan. 2 in the Bahamas. Since his death from a seizure disorder, the family has remained out of the spotlight, even keeping a low profile in their adopted hometown of Ocala, Fla.

"John is a strong man, but we want to leave him in peace," Olivia Newton-John, a longtime pal, tells PEOPLE in its new cover story. "To lose a loved one -- it's the worst time in anyone's life."

Shouldn't this be filed in green living?

Family downsizing is a key component to sustainable living.

The magazine that publish this crap, and the people who buy them are all sickos in my opinion.

How about the sickos who line up to be on the cover?

No matter the families' religion, I hope they know or come to know, that though Jett's body is gone, if he ever lived he still lives. It is the (understandable) desire for permanence that causes grief. We humans do not like change. When it is a change in the physical availability of a loved one (especially a child) that is a hard truth to process. I can only offer up my personal experience and say all those I have known and loved who have passed on still remain in my heart...accessible, wise, comforting, strengthening...alive. The essence of a being does not take years to connect with it happens in moments. It falls to the living to tap into the essence of their love for another and therefore never lose that person.

Anyway, these are my thoughts about this story of life lost far too early. I presume they offer little solace to one who is longing for a lost loved one. I present them not as an authoritative truth but as considerations that I engage in and that I thought might be helpful to share. I meant no disrespect or harm. I have to say this because the world is comprised of all types with many agendas. I have seen this before and I would like to avoid commentary beyond these thoughts of mediation, respect, and solemnity. If attacked I am hard-pressed not to respond, though I take no joy in such exchanges with fellow humans.

Correction: Mediation should be "meditation"

Blame laziness (on my part) and automatic spellcheck (-:

I suspect Jett would still be alive if his father were not a $cientologist. $cientology is well known for it's extreme disdain for legitimate medical treatment.

Why do people like you even bother to post this type of stuff? The Trovoltas lost their only son because of an illness not from their religious belief and you jump right in and spew this for whose sake? God forbid you loose a child I hope you can stick your chest out and accept any type of unnecessary criticism from folks who don't know you but assume that your actions brought on your kids death. Give it a break. Being a puta 24/7 will eventually wear you down!

You realize that ALL religions are cults, right?

E-meter, folks.
Low-level electrical charge to calm the nervous system while processing trauma.
That's how scientologists cope.
And i hope it's working for them. they must be in horrible pain. If the editors at People cared, they'd
be choosing to leave the Travolta family alone.

The thing that I get from the Travolta's loss of their son & this article is that many Parents think that they themselves will be the ones passing on before their Child or Children, and in which case many parents put off some of the most important things when it comes to Family Life (just being there with the Family), then We all come to realize in either one way or another that Life is more precious then one may think, and we shouldn't put off the important Family time!

I assume they are coping by continuing to promote their pyramid scheme cult

It is spelled sick not sic.

And of course they are probably getting expensive auditing ... it is how Scientologists cope. Thankfully, money is no object in this case.

Johns own brother had a lot to say about all this but the media stifles his words.

There was not a word direct from the parents so objections about publicity only shows the article was unread.

There was also nothing of substance in the article. The headline and the picture were an excuse.

Anyone who puts their grief on public display in a NATIONAL magazine is suspect in my mind. Here's a clue serinda, everyone at some point in their lives will be dealt a devastating loss, some several times, but not all of us go running to a tabliod to exploit it. I am sorry for their loss, but I really don't need to know every excruciating detail of their greif and their making it public makes me wonder why. If they want to help others they can do it privately by donating some of their vast wealth to organizations that help others that may not have the resources that the Travolta's have.

You don't know that they participated in this article, do you? Perhaps so, but one can't tell from this article. People or any other magazine can run stories and use existing photos on their covers without the subjects' participation. Fashion magazines do it all the time. They don't have to have anyone's permission, unfortunately, to write about them or use an existing photo or image on the cover.

this is not an article they participated in...it's just cobbled together with a few quotes from friends and an old pic.

Can someone please tell me why People is doing an interview of them only 2.5 months after their son's death? Wait a year, please. Right now, there are no answers to how they're coping. It's much too soon.

Shouldn't the question be 'why are the Travoltas doing an interview only 2.5 months after their son's death'?

If you read what People has posted, there was not a word from John or Kelly.

Longtime pal, close friend, family friend.

Littlepuffycloud~ Perhaps a better question might be why you judge the Travolta's..it is none of your business nor anyone else's what they choose to do

If you would actually bother to mread the article before throwing in your two cents, you would see that the Travoltas were not giving an interview at all. The comments were from a family friend.

No, the question is, "why are people who can't read saying the Travoltas are doing an interview?"!

people can choose not to answer questions
