Politico:

Come Easter Sunday, President Barack Obama will attend a local church for the first time since taking office, but aides say that won't necessarily be the church he and his family join.

The White House wouldn't say where Obama will be on Sunday - but did say that the Obamas search for a more lasting spiritual home in the capital has been going on for some time.

If I were the Obamas, I would be hesitant to choose any church. Look at the fiasco the occurred when they attended their first D.C. church pre-inauguration. I would opt to bring the church to me at the WH in their place.

It would be good if a Judge would order a gag order on all media and photographers when it comes to the President and his family religious and spiritual beliefs. And anyone that photographs, u-tubes or anything else should be charged with a criminal violations.

I think he will be VERY careful about where he lands for ongoing spiritual nourishment because he's smart and he's been burnt.

I"m sure that won't be good enough for the GOP. They're bound to find something wrong with it.

The particular church has not been announced and doubt that it will.

The Obamas' religion -- and their choice of a place -- or not -- to worship is no one's damn business.

Agreed, we may not be a Christian Nation, but Mr. President have every right to be a Christian.

Religion is a personal choice and should be off the table for political punditry. Policy matters

Thank god he's finally going to church. My goodness--it's been 11 weeks!

The righties were getting their knickers in a twist about this--you know --saying this was proof that he was some kind of atheist or something worse---muuusliim.

By the way--why don't they just have religious services in the WH? Is that not allowed??

lol. The poor POTUS and Mrs. POTUS now have to get thee to the church on time in order to satisfy the ring wing nut bolts unleashed in this country by 8 years of GWB. It's not enough that the President has to clean up Bush's excrement, he has to also please the fanatical christian element. Poor President Obama! Thank all the gods that he is a cool headed and brilliant guy who obviously enjoys his role as our leader. I, for one, am sure glad that he is that.

I would venture to guess that probably want their girls to interact with other children in Sunday school classes, and other church related children's activities.

I believe it violates the separation of church and state although they did have a mass when John Kennedy was assassinated. I also think he has a panel of spiritual advisors he can call on the phone.

Separation of church and state mainly goes to the idea that the government cannot promote any church or head one. Separation has no impact on individuals, even if they are the President and his family.

You're kidding, right? Believe it or not Presidents still are covered in their personal lives under the Bill of Rights.

There is a chapel in the WH, and many B.ible studies and other spiritual groups have been welcomed in previous administrations. The Obamas could invite a pastor in for services and invite staff, friends, etc. There is also the church that presidents typically attend on ceremony there in DC. I would assume that their children get a good amount of religious instruction at the Friends school which they attend since they are a private school.

Unfortunately, no matter which church the Obamas choose, there will be someone or some organization that will gather every sermon ever given by the pastor that is available on CD and look for a "gotcha" or anything that can be taken out of context and looped repeatedly on CNN or Fox News. I would like to see such a personal decision have boundaries, but in this day and age it's not gonna happen. These people have no other strategy other than armchair quarterbacking and criticism.

jemiltd, you are so right about that, I think its a better word for those type of people, that is LIFE, and if they had one they would not have time to worry about where and if the Obamas worship.

Barack Obama has all the markings and profile of a true Unitarian, now all he needs to do is come out as one. This would be a good thing and quite refreshing , it is a truly enlightened church.

That comment is well-meaning, but misses the point. Barak and Michelle Obama are the way they are because they truly are followers of Jesus, not just members of an ultra-conservative church that claims "Christian" only for their own believers.

Speaking as a Unitarian, Jesus is not persona non grata in Unitarian Universalism. On the contrary, he is highly regarded. He and his family would be more than welcome, and him remaining a Christian is not an obstacle.

I should also mention that some of our previous U.S. presidents have been Unitarian.

The reality is that his and their religious beliefs are truly not our business and the sooner people realize that the better. What if I came to you and told you that you should be a Baptist, Catholic or whatever you aren't just because you seem to have the markings. Not one of us knows this family other than by what we see and hear on the TV.
