I trust they have enough toxic paint for them, although it will probably mean siphoning some from toys.

Don't be surprised if China comes to US, rounds up bunch of Americans and takes them to China as slaves in about 500 years.

China copy electric car technology? I hate to tell ya this, but after the Chevy's EV1, China has been making electric vehicles for road use, and not just for shop or golfing use, longer than the US! The US gave up the EV1 under pressure from Exxon. The US was in the forefront of the technology for commuting use but gave it up, under pressure from the oil companies. Now, China realizes that they need it to reduce their oil dependency usages, but our government sits on their hands. As China begins to mass produce road worthy electric cars, which have simple technology, other than the battery, the US automakers roll out the next generation of SUV.

You guys can all snicker if you want, but just remember how people snickered at Toyota and Datsun (Nissan) when they first showed up on the American scene. Remember, they're sitting on a couple of trillion dollar surplus, not to event mention the billions of dollars we owe them. They can make a gang of mistakes along the way to producing these cars and putting them on the world market. Even if we don't buy one of their vehicles, there are plenty of markets worldwide who will.

They are a valid and formidable threat in the market. If you think not, you're a fool.

Sorry. That comparison is wrong. China just lacks individuality. They cant come up with their own brand and have something unique about them.

They are a bunch of "replicators".

If there is someone out there making great products after Japan, its Korea and then Taiwan. China still lags far behind.

You're myopically wrong. They have more money than God. What they can't replicate or invent, they will buy. You can make a lot of mistakes, and still win, when you have the money they have.

I didn't know it was possible to build cars entirely out of lead and melamine?

The main step will be to provide very large subsidies for buyers of electric cars.

This will give added incentive for a cooperative market strategy to produce and infrastructure electric cars in China.

We should expect to see these cars become hugely popular very soon. The technology exists, and mass production will soon bring the costs down to where the subsidy will no longer be needed.

A lot of people in China are already driving electric scooters, and are very willing to upgrade to an electric car.

Infrastructure is a recharge spot at each major shopping plaza.

Am sick and tired of China's empty rhetorics. Just because they have the largest pool of cheap labour doesnt give them the rights to say what they want.

Geez, how about making a decent say, a table fan with your own brand name and technology and impress the rest of the world with manufactuing finesse and quality ?

Cant do that right ? Lead poisoning ? Using antifreeze as a sweetener ? Toxic dry walls ?

Well do the simple things right first, before thumping your chest about your dreams !

I assume you wouldn't mind doctors just saying what they want, never mind the medical malpractice.

I can see china is paying attention to President Obama's desperate plea for new technologies in the auto industry ...they want to take advantage of this opportunity while Detroit is chilling...taking it easy...

Actually there are plenty of American electric vehicle startups that are in front of innovation at the moment.

They have to make a great one before they can make it lastingly affordable.

Tesla stepped up and made it. Now they are making it progressively cheaper.

I can see it now, China recalls 1 billion EV automobiles because (a) they were painted with lead-based paint; (b) the batteries spontaneously explode; (c) the fake leather seating gives off formaldehyde fumes; (d) rubber tires contain uranium; (e) charging car batteries start house fires.

I hope they succeed in producing a decent product, but it's quite a leap from recycling cardboard and making unsafe toys to actually manufacturing something a little more complicated. They certainly have the resources and cheap labor to do it, but I wouldn't stand in line to buy one given their production record so far. As it is, I won't knowingly by anything made in China because of their human rights and product safety record.

lots of people here have huge misconceptions about electric cars. it's true we only hear about the latest miata or re-issue of the charger gas cars -it's the whole industry's fault. and that fish stinks from the head. my remedy is cheap education. if you have a computer google jay leno's garage. once there seek "electric" vehicles. jay drives and reviews a mini and a tesla electric vehicle. it is entertaining for anyone to watch. jay carefully keeps the jokes going and does not bring up the question of way these superior products are not being distributed or produced for the masses. you already know why they are not.
