Glenn Beck Imitates Obama Pouring Gasoline On "Average American" (VIDEO)

Huffington Post   Danny Shea First Posted: 5/11/09 Updated: 5/25/11

Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck is so outraged by President Obama's immigration plan that he was forced to ask on his show Thursday, "President Obama, why don't you just set us on fire?"

In his "The One Thing" segment Thursday (that was picked up and hammered by Media Matters), Beck imitated Obama pouring gasoline on the "average American" by dousing Red Eye's Bill Schulz with water out of a red jug.

Beck railed against Obama's budget, his speech to France, his quasi-bow to the Saudi King, the closing of Gitmo, developments in Cuba, and finally Obama's new immigration plan — metaphorically pouring gasoline on Schulz with each new topic.

"We didn't vote to lose the republic!" Beck screamed. "We voted for change!"

He also wrote on FoxNews.com:

President Obama, why don't you just set me on fire right now? At least we'd get it over with.

If I burned off my fingers, I might qualify for some aid. Now that is progressive thinking.

What, nothing about the dog?

>metaphorically pouring gasoline on Schulz with each new topic.

Holy Mother of Sanity. At what point does "free speech" go too far?

(And these Repubs tirelessly defended Bush? The mind reels. I will never understand these crazies unless it's all about money. Money is the only explanation for people like Beck and Hannity and their ilk.)

And all the Bush bashing wasn't freedom of speech the door swings both ways on this topic and both sides accuse each other of taking things too far when cooler heads dont' prevail and peoples mouths move to fast

Nothing he said made any sense.

putting aside the fact that there's something incredibly lame about the way he chose to spell out the analogy and then hold up those matches like "you didn't think this is where it would end, did ya? You didn't realise I was going to the set us on fire analogy until this very second I held up the matches, eh?"

...putting that aside, why has it not been mentioned that this guy can play camp as well as he can. How does Fox allow this?

A lot of comment suggested writing to sponsors. FYI, here is the response I got from La-Z-Boy, one of the sponsors listed:

"La-Z-Boy Incorporated makes no political or 'talk host' affiliation whether it be at a county, state or national level.

Our commercials are run on a multitude of networks across the United States and Canada. Participation on a particular network does not indicate any kind of endorsement."

Not exactly a UPS and O'Reilly story.

I 1st heard Beck's radio show 7 years or so ago and found him amusing.
At some point this guy jumped the rail, threw a rod, blew one brain cell too many or what ever euphemism you wish to employ when discussing a man losing his mind.
He is seriously mentally ill and it is a pitiful thing to watch.
Murdoch should be ashamed.
Beck needs professional help not a television show.
No matter what your politics might be you have to have compassion for someone as mentally unstable as he's become.
Most of us endured the worst eight years in modern American history and emerged reasonably unscathed mentally.
All it took to drive poor Glenn Beck off the deep end was the election of President Barack Obama.

Things have not changed that much for me and I am not worried or histerical. What is wrong with Beck? Is there something about Obama that's driving Beck and Fox crazy, something they dare not say aloud? What is it that has the good ol' right wing so on edge?

Obama is "driving them crazy" because he's popular, reasonable, intelligent and (mostly) in power.

He has a mandate they could only dream of, to take progressive action that the country could have only dreamed of even 2 years ago.

Worst of all, Obama has been given all this on a silver platter by the incompetence, criminality and drastic overreach of the Bush administration and their enablers in the press -- IE, OReilly, Hannity, etc, including latecomer Beck.

Short version: They caused the problem, they have no solution and their only response to it is over the top theatrics--which comes off completely insane. Because it is.

Every time rich, self absorbed middle age and above white men utter the word abortion, they should have to adopt an unwanted baby and rear it to the age of consent. They should not be able to choose the race, medical condition, parental background or know anything about the prenatal care the mother received during the pregnancy. They should raise the child or children, if they persist in using the word abortion, without any handouts whatsoever, but totally on their dime. Every penny for medical care and education should come out of their personal finances. In other words, put your money where your mouth is of shut-up about the reproductive rights of women you know nothing about.

They put Glenn Beck away before......he is mentally unstable......FOX hired him until he goes over the deep end again.......unfortunately, the debt in this Country was accomplished by a Republican President and a Republcan led Congress and now a Democrat is being forced to spend his way out of the problem.....there is no other choice.

Giant Stimulus Package=Giant Debt--We Get It!

Let the banks fail and devastate what few sectors of the economy are still kicking. That's better than LOANING money banks/financial institutions except where the government has to spend money anyways after the banking crash.

"Why can't we just let AIG go under?"
Also: Why do banks lend money to each other?

I agree. I find nothing funny about him except for that maniacal look he has in his eyes. Sorry but I cannot stomach his show or anything on Fox News. I am surprised with the state of the economy and the high unemployment or underemployment rate we have in this county due to the failed policies that started during the Reagan years, that Fox News still has an audience that believes their lies and distortions. And if anyone thinks that Fox News is not the mouth of the GOP, you are only kidding yourself.
