CHICAGO — The news is hitting Chicago deep dish pizza makers' eye like a big pizza pie.

President Barack Obama is having 140 people over to the White House Friday night for a some deep-dish pizza _ St. Louis deep dish pizza.

It seems during his campaign he had pizza from a restaurant called Pi in St. Louis. That's the story Pi assistant manager Lindsey Tornetto tells.

Whatever happened, the restaurant says the owner and his partner packed dough, cheese and pizza pans in their suitcases and flew to Washington.

It all has Marc Malnati _ owner of 30 Lou Malnati's Pizzarias in the Chicago area _ shaking his head. He says he likes Obama's economic policy, but thinks the president's pizza policy should change.

while reading this, felt that the chicago pizzeria(s) owner was saying his statement in good humour - too many people are being so serious on here with regard to this one aspect.

chicago deepdish, YUK, not for me, and i'm from chicago. unless you like a pan full of dough. i have tried thin crust from tons of places, in chicago and out of state. some good, some not so good. malnatti's (i don't think that's the proper spelling by the way) not so good.

Lou Malnati's pizza sauce tastes too much like stewed tomatoes for my liking.

I just like the idea of the First Family having lots of get-togethers and cocktail parties. A good way for people to network and be relaxed with each other.

Agree. Anything else is sour grapes. Just because he's from Chicago doesn't mean everything he brings to DC.should also come from Chicago. In fact, it is better than he mix it up and bring things from different places in the US. That said, Chicago is known for its deep dish pizza so it is understandable a few pizza makers here had their feather's ruffled.

The dude from PI was interviewed on TV.
He gave props to Lou in Chicago.
Claimed his pizza was different.
He already had a ticket to Washington.
He had some campaign staffers who stayed with him.
He called them to say he was going to be in DC and did they want him to bring some pizza.
Staffers still working with Obama told the Prez; he wanted pizza too.
The owner got the OK to cook in the White House kitchen; brought the ingredients with him and prepared it on site.
The owner already had a ticket to Washington.
Way to attempt to make an issue where there is known. Still tossing darts blindfolded hoping something will stick...

I like the little ten-for-a-dollar ones you get at the store and can put in the toaster oven.

.....and it would taste better than the cheese on a cracker crust commonly known as Chicago thin crust pizza.

"It all has Marc Malnati _ owner of 30 Lou Malnati's Pizzarias in the Chicago area"

Not to be nit-picky, but the word is 'pizzeria' with an 'e'. Is running a spellcheck really so hard?

Sorry, Chi-town, but nothing beats Brooklyn!

I am not going to argue with you on this. I grew up in Chicago, and currently live in Upstate NY. While both are VERY good, they are two different types of food. The Pizza of NYC is usually paper thin, and good for a snack, but when it comes to deliciousness and wanting a meal...Chi-town has the trump suit, sorry!

Yeah, if you like lasagna on a crust. Look at all the obese people waddling around Chi town.

650,000 people lost their jobs last month. I wonder if any of those people have their pizza flown in?

Try investigating the story. It wasn't "flown in". Nothing on the taxpayer.

What people don't know, they order 2000 from a pizza place in chicago for the "Inauguration Ball"! Please need to report the entire story and not part of a story. Matter of fact he can eat what heck he wants. The Chicago owner is jealous!

Actually I'm surprised they didn't order Domino's.

I grew up on Chicago pizza, and I love it but I moved to other places and I love those pizzas too. Malnotti's is fine too, especially in the atomosphere of the old shop. I also crave the pizza at that little deli in Cicero, Freddies, which reminds me Golden Boy in SF's North Beach. Awesome...especially with a pint of Sierra.
Best pizza without a doubt, the ones my Italian old man used to make when growing up on the west side, using some awsome locally made sweet fennel sausage, garden peppers, onions, herbs and red sauce... in a blisteringly hot oven while tuning into a Bears game with a zillion neighbors and relatives. The carbon footprint was limited to the gas stove, escaping CO2 from the Old Style, and the everpresent belches of satisfaction from everyone fortunate enough to be there. It just doesn't get any greener.

#1--The guy was coming to D.C to visit his girlfriend anyway.

#2--Obama loves his pizza. So what.

#3--The guy is DONATING the pizza, his time,, everything. "It's an honor.'

#4--Guess what, Chicago? Other places make so-called "Chicago style" pizza.

#5--And make it GREAT.
Long Island Tea isn't only servced in New York. And other places than Philadelphia make a Philly Cheesesteak. "Denver omelettes" are everywhere and "French fries"? Don't get me started.

#6--You don't own Chicago Pizza. Deal with it.

Well, we do own Chicago-style pizza.

And any pizza that calls itself "Chicago-style" has its roots from right here in Chicago.
We are flattered.
