Tea Party Insanity: "Burn The Books!" (VIDEO)

First Posted: 05/13/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:15 PM ET

Burn

Big bucks are pouring in to the tea party movement. Fox News reports that organizers are making a fortune in merchandise sales -- the online store for the Tax Day Tea Party website has already lodged over $48,000 in sales, according to tea partier Eric Odom.

But the big bucks aren't only in T-shirts with pithy slogans - Fox's Glenn Beck said on his radio show that he plans to attend a $500 dollar-a-plate fundraiser for the tea party movement.

One wonders how much that fundraiser will resemble the scene in this video of a small event organized by the 9-12 Project, in which a man rouses the rabble with a conspiracy-alleging rant.

"In the early 50s our country was infiltrated by the communist party," he says, calling the Obama administration the culmination of that infiltration. "They're doing everything they can to brainwash our public...This thing they're putting on our TVs," he says, presumably referring to digital cable converters, "it's a brainwash unit!"

As his speech winds down, he exhorts his listeners to get their kids "the hell out of college. They're brainwashing 'em!"

The anti-school message resonates with one woman.

"Burn the books!" she yells from off-camera. The surprised camera man asks if she's serious, and which books she'd burn. "The ones in college, the brainwashing books, like the evolution crap."

(The Huffington Post wants to have citizen journalists at as many of the April 15 tea party events as possible. If you're interested in attending one of the protests and reporting back to us with dispatches, photos, or video, click here to sign up. We'll contact you shortly with further instructions.)

The "marketing guy" is not necessarily well focused or believable, but
the "Christian woman" that yells about burning books
IS A TOTAL FRAUD!

PROOF:
Her youtube profile, shown on either google or yahoo caches,
shows that HER TRUE INTERESTS are:
the ocean, gay rights, atheism, fashion, clothes, shoes, retro video games, ...

NOTE: (google has since recached her youtube profile - hmmm ....)

Changing her page's profile in order to "FRAME" those
she disagrees with or dislikes, shows a lack of character,
ethics, & honesty.

If she feels she must MISREPRESENT herself & her values/causes, she
must not have much faith in either.

There are better & more ethical ways, to get your point across.

A fifty year plan? I can't help but admire the patience shown by the communists as they waited for it to come to fruition.

OMG!! I've been watching digital TV for a couple of years now. I should have seen it sooner. I should have known. I voted for Obama for goodness sake. How could they do this to us. We're doomed!! I've already disconnected my TV's. I've been gathering the books that I purchased over the last few years and am ready to light them ablaze. I been listening (because I disconnected my TV) to FOX news non-stop in hopes of getting better sooner. My wife and I even moved to a liberal part of town. My wife thinks that the foil I've placed over the windows won't help. I don't know if I can reach her anymore. I fear she may be too far gone. I fear she may have fully assimilated. Oh god, she watched MILK when I was at work the other day. I didn't put the pieces together until now. She won't wear the dresses or the bonnets I buy for her. She even insists on recycling our trash.

The only thing that is missing here are the hats made out of tin foil and plastic spoons that these people should be wearing. These people are beyond ignorant, stupid, and mentally challenged.
Firstly, President Obama has nothing to do with the 2008 taxes that these people are paying now.
Secondly, his tax change that takes effect 2009, gives most if not ALL of these bazzaros tax DECREASES.
Also, it completely leaves me speechless how many Americans (particularly the GOP) swear that they are SO patriotic; however, they don't want to pay any taxes for the upkeep, comfort, and protection of this country and it's citizens. They sound like a parent saying "I'm a good parent and I love my child more than life; but DON'T think I'm going to spend ANY money on my kids. I work hard for my money and it's mine. So if my kids gets sick or needs food and clothes, they'll have to go it alone.

Sadly, these are people who will NEVER allow knowledge and facts to interfere with what they believe.

Sadly you don't know enough about what you speak.

Those that will see a small decrease in taxes in 2009 are going to be really upset when they see how their taxes go up in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, ande 2014. After 2014 it's a crap shoot.

Plus, those that are in the financial group that would get a small decrease in their taxes in 2009, will most likely be out of work by the end of the year. Their jobs will be lost to un-intended consequences. The wealthy are going to get hit hard over the next few years and lay-offs will come by the millions. The majority of those lay-offs will be the middle income folks that the 2009 small decrease is supposed to help.

Oh, and did you know that evreyone on Social Security, or receiving SS Supplemental income will be getting a $250 bonus from the Obama recovery plan for absolutely NOTHING!

It really is a shame that so few people THINK anymore.

I can't wait to see SNL's tea party!
08:25 PM on 04/14/2009
oh, come on!!

I'm as liberal as the next guy on here, but seriously did anyone watch this video?

The girl behind the camera is obviously super-liberal and making fun of the conservatives in the room. You can tell by looking at her youtube page, or just by listening to her exchange with the guy who asks if she's for real.

She's not for real. And I think it really degrades the honesty of the moment - because the guy who thinks digital converter boxes are brainwash machines is amazing - with a cheap joke.

It's easy to understand why they don't want us to go to school. In college, we might learn that the Boston Tea Party was a response to a tax that helped create a monopoly of the East India Tea Company, and not just a protest against taxation. We might learn that the Party goers, threw EIT tea into the harbor...the ones WITHOUT the tax stamp, not the ones with the tax stamp. We might learn that the US revolution was not about taxation, but about taxation without representation. We might learn that of the numerous criticisms of the Crown in the Declaration of Independence, unfair taxation that created monopolies and without representation from Colonists to decide how (and where) the revenue was spent...that was only ONE of the complaints. Jefferson also had a few things to say about the King taking away our civil liberties, things like jailing people without a trial, searching through our belongings without cause and torturing people who disagree with them. We might learn that the complaint of taxation without our consent was tenth, in a list of twenty, grievances listed. We might learn that the Declaration's first grievance is that the King refused to assent to laws passed for the "Public Good" of the colonists. We might see that the reasons for the revolution have almost nothing to do with their warped view of history.

Yeah, it's not hard to figure out why conservatives would want us to stay far away from college.

Well, it is Ohio, and presumably rural Ohio. Nothing against Ohio, but once you get out of the major towns (heck, even in the major towns) in a lot of these states (Ohio, Penn., Indiana, etc.) you find the fringe elements to be quite prevalent.

He is talking about the digital converter box... wow... that's a pretty dramatic conspiracy theory. How crafty, to so innocuously put boxes in every living room that BRAINWASH you. Seriously? What does he think the box does? Is it a hypnotism sort of thing?

It's a little scary... these people are completely serious and focused, and there's more than a handful of them.

I'm not taking these people as a joke. It was crowds like this who brought Hitler to power. He was famous for burning books. Google it:
It was a way of expressing hatred for books that the Nazis thought were 'un-German'. The book-burning in May 1933 was organized by Goebbels and was done amid maximum melodrama.

Long before anyone even thought of the Nazis the poet Heinrich Heine said, 'Where they burn books, they end up burning people'.

WHERE THEY BURN BOOKS, THEY END UP BURNING PEOPLE: wake up America, these people mean business.
11:47 AM on 04/14/2009
You are partly correct. However laughable they are, we shouldn't joke about them too much. Keep in mind that book burning wasn't the only reason and not the biggest for Hitler's rise to power.

The reasons include historic wars, cultural differences, economic hardship, hyper inflation, depression level unemployment, racial and ethnic tensions, a lack of strong international diplomacy, a weak League of Nations, a weak and controlled media, polarizing alliances, German exceptionalism. In short, the time was right in Germany for a demagogue to flourish.

I agree, I do not think we should take them as a joke either(however laughable they are)...crazy people can be very dangerous. However, I am fairly certain that we can easily out-smart them, given that they couldn't even organize this tea-bagging event to go how it was supposed to(when they wanted to dump the tea bags in the river and didn't have a permit...lol).
11:03 AM on 04/14/2009
They will burn books but not their ex rated magazines. You betcha.
