Anti-Abortion Movement Surging Under Obama

The first hint of a stir came just after Election Day, when the computer servers at Americans United for Life crashed. People were swamping the Web site to sign a petition urging President-elect Barack Obama to stand firm against abortion.

Pro-Life does mean no wars and no capital punshment. But sometimes if we are attacked there has to be a war ( how would you like it if we were invaded by another country and there was no war declared) and no one is forced to join the military so that have the choice to join and when they join they are aware that thay may die in war. The death pentalty is wrong and should be abloished in all states. And for those who want pre-choice on abortion. nthey eed to understand when they CHOOSE to have sex they CHOOSE the possiblity that they may get pregnant and yes I know some abortions are due to rapes and incest thsis is only 2% of ALL abortions. And yes I know birth contropl can fail and MOST women know this so when they choose to have sex even with birth control they CHOOSE to make a choice that they could get pregnant. And yes the weight of this falls on the women and there is no way to change this. So women who now days are more advanced in society need to stop having sex and then they can CHOOSE 100% not to have a child

Repubs don't like abortion but they sure love the death penalty and war. And when those babies are born, they don't want them to have health care or a decent education. They don't care if the air they breathe is foul from pollution, as is the water they drink.

Republicans don't care how many people including children and other innocent people die each year (about 40,000) from guns.

They don't want unions that will ensure higher levels of employee safety. They prefer so see miners die so mine owners can make more profits.

They don't care to spend money on inspections to ensure our food and medications are safe to consume.

I refuse to acknowledge these people as "pro-life". They are simply anti-abortion. If these people were so "pro-life" then they would not be a largely supporting group of both the death penalty and the wars.
And if they were so pro-life, then they would all be in line to adopt the parent-less children in this country. I mean, being a gay man, they have made it illegal for me to adopt them in many states. I just am not so sure how so many people can say that this mentality is "pro-life"?

What I have never understood is this:

A man and woman get pregnant. The man says he doens't want any kids. He takes off. No one in the Right to Life movement has EVER PUBLICLY STATED that the man should be forced to be a father - midnight feedings, diaper changing, missing work due to a sick kid.

Obviously, no one can force a man to carry a child to term, feeling the physical pain, and the emotional pain if the child was unplanned, unwanted and the mother cannot afford the child. But no one advocates forcing the dad to stick around and actually parent. Of course, in some cases, a little child support can be gotten, but not always and not always enough. Anyway, you see my point about this creepy little double standard.

I'm in my mid 70s and nobody, but NOBODY could ever tell me what I could or couldn't do with my personal possessions. And my body is the most personal thing I own. Yes, I OWN MY OWN BODY!

Years ago my neighbor's husband raped their thirteen year old daughter - constantly. The daughter was too afraid to say anything until it was obvious that she was pregnant. That was before Roe vs Wade and the poor young girl gave birth, tearing her insides in the process so that she could never again have children. The baby survived and the mother threw the father from the house but there were three (3 ) ruined lives. The young girl who was scarred for life. The son (who later learned who his father was) and is riddled with guilt,, and the grandmother who raised the boy and had to look at him every day realizing that she had been complicit by not recognizing the original problem.

These anti abortionists would much prefer to see three lives ruined than have proper medical procedures performed under clinical conditions. It is an acknowledged fact that if Roe is ever overturned it will not stop abortions and it will surely mean that more lives are lost - including the mother's life in a back alley. So much for "right to life"!

There are 3 sides to this debate, not 2, and if the pro-choice supporters can communicate with the pro-life faction the debate will end.
I probably need to explain, what is commonly called the pro-life movement has two componants, pro-life and anti-choice. The former disagree with abortions because they want babies to survive. the later disagree with abortions because they can't metaphorically stone women for having sex out of wedlock without the babies to prove the "sin," occured.
Whether abortion is legal has no affect on the abortion rate in a nation. In fact, in most of the nations it is illegal the abortion rate is higher, because the true drivers of abortion are not handled as well as they are in pro-choice nations. Mexico has a higher rate of abortion than the US, even though it is illegal, because Mexico doesn't take care of pregnant women's ability to have hope for their children as well as the US does.
If you can show this to the pro-life supporters, they will stop calling for illegalization of abortion, and start calling for WIC, public preschool, etc (things that actually lower abortion rates). Leaving only the anti-choice folks calling for illegalization.

Right to lifers oppose a woman's right to choose or for embryotic stem cell research. But most are in favor of the death penalty and war. These people are such hypocrites but they are also incredibly stupid and uneducated, for the most part. All the ranting over this issue and whether Obama should be allowed to speak at Notre Dame. Bush invaded a sovereign country without cause killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people, condoned torture, suspended the constitution and put US citizens liberties at risk and yet there was not a peep from the Bible Thumpers With Rifles Gang. Try to uphold the right of a US woman to choose or introduce gun control and they take to the streets. Send them all to Alaska and then tell Putin that he can have it back!

Bill Maher said it very well recently: an embryo can be frozen and used later but a baby cannot. Further to that a soldier can give their life under command but there is no command that can bring that life back.

If you don't agree with abortion but also don't agree with sex education and prevention, you are quite simply an idiot and a plague on society because once these unwanted children are brought into the world, these same hypocrites say that it is not the responsibility of the state to care for them.

Great point, but my guess is many of them think that Iraqis don't count, because they don't believe in the same god as these good Christians do. If there really was a god, he or she would not allow followers to get away with the things that they do in his or her name. Instead, we have priests and politicians interpreting the original words to fit their own agendas. Anything, including murder, can be rationalized in the name of God.

This is what I don't understand about people who claim to "Love America" ~ the whole idea of "Freedom" is that people have the right and ability to choose for themselves. Make their own decisions. Except, these folks want to make the decisions for you. Then when politicians pass laws that make decisions for THEM, they freak out and say government shouldn't tell them how to live their lives.
Nobody, NOBODY, is forcing these people to have abortions. Go home and live your own lives. Burn some books while you sit around waiting for the Rapture. Just leave those of us with sanity and common sense alone.
