A Brazilian woman who was caught in the crossfire between robbers and police officers was spared by a wad of cash stuffed into her bra, according to the Sun. The shootout began when the robbers stormed a bus, which is considered a common target in Brazil. Ivonete Pereira, knowing this, had taken the necessary precautions and stuffed 150 Brazilian reais (about $67) into her bra. More on the incident, which indeed ended tragically, from The Sun:
When the bus passed through the tough Boca do Rio neighbourhood, the robbers struck.
A shootout followed with a police officer on the scene during which a stray bullet hit Ms Pereira.
Her bra was stuffed with just enough cash to absorb most of the impact -- although she still had to be taken to hospital to have the bullet removed.
The robbers managed to escape after gunning down a retired sergeant.
