Make Neil Young's Video, Support Electric Conversion Cars (VIDEO)

First Posted: 05/15/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:15 PM ET

Treehugger reports that Neil Young, rock legend and proud owner of the LincVolt electric conversion car, is putting out a call to his fans:

But here is lovely twist. He's inviting fans to enter a contest to make a better music video than his own, to accompany the song, 'Johnny Magic.' This particular tune is a homage to Johnathon Goodwin, the so-called Motorhead Messiah, who worked with Neil Young on the LincVolt project. This was converting a 2.5 ton Lincoln Continental Mark IV into a biodiesel/electric hybrid vehicle, that now gets 100 miles to the gallon.

Here's the original video, which premiered here:

I think you can probably beat it.

Electric cars do nothing for the earth unless the power is coming from a renewable source. If it isn't - if, say, the power comes from a coal-burning generating plant three states away - then all you're doing is moving your emissions elswhere. Given the power lost transmission for every mile between generatior and user, Young's electric car may well be more polluting than diesel or gasoline.

Tuesday, 4/21, Bright Automotive will be showing off their prototype PHEV at the capitol. The nitwit news media will ignore it as it does not meet their 2 main criteria: "if it bleeds it leads, if it's fluff we can't get enough". Maybe the Huff Post will notice it.

Neil's car is way cool. And big.

Tell all your friends about the national security we can gain ... practically for free ... by adding solar flare up protection to the national power grid as we make it friendly to wind and solar sources.

Millions could die in a solar flare up if we do not ... according to NASA.

Geez, Niel.... not only do you need a new video.... you ought to think about getting a new headliner, too.

"let's play something that's not so damn depressing..."

Nice song, but I suspect Neil Young is doing a little bit of false advertising when it comes to that car. A 2.5 ton car that gets 100mpg is very far fetched, even if it is a plug-in. I wonder who tested this claim and exactly how the test was run.

Also, since he's urging people to convert their cars to electric, perhaps he should disclose how much it cost him to convert that Lincoln. I suspect the process was very expensive and out of reach for the average non-rock star.

The point he was trying to make if that if he can do it with his big tank then if this process is scaled up it can be cheap enough to do with most cars.

And his electric car has been tested. Stop the hate already.

Neil! He's on top of it. Killer drums. Love that he keeps blowing the lyrics. And that guitar solo spaz attack is soul gone nuts. Gotta love Neil, man.
