Obama Dog Video: Bo Obama Shown Off By Obama Family (VIDEO)

Huffington Post   First Posted: 05/15/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:15 PM ET

There was quite a crowd at the White House today to see the Obamas show off Bo, the new presidential puppy. Bo was on a leash handled by Michelle Obama, and the puppy showed some vigorous energy in front of the crowd of reporters.

President Obama made a few remarks, noting that Portuguese water dogs like tomatoes, and thus Michelle's garden was in danger. Sasha, the President's youngest daughter, pointed out that they would have to teach Bo to swim, a skill which apparently does not come naturally to Portuguese water dogs.

Overall, the First Family seemed quite pleased with their new dog.

He reminds me of Jimmy Stewart so much. They look like a wonderful happy family and The President is such a typical Dad...trying to run the show when it's clear that the women run the show. He is out numbered three to one.

The photo op-on the front lawn was interesting to anyone trained in the Cesar Millan method. They all have the natural assurence a pack leader needs, but it turns out neither Obama nor the youngest daughter are natural "dog people". Michelle is determined to step up, but it's the oldest daughter that is besotted with the dog. She loves that dog! ... and that dog is a bold one! Hope Cesar Millan's method of "training people" will penetrate the White House for the comfort of a family i love.

Well, imagine being a kid wanting a dog, but because you have allergies you think maybe you'll never get to have one, and then finally you find one that doesn't make you sneeze or cry! I'd be overjoyed, too. Bo is Malia's dream come true!

The Cesar Millan "method" of training has as much business in the White House (or any house) as does Sarah Palin's "method" of foreign policy.

Before the election, someone asked McCain what kind of pet he would bring to the White House if elected.

McCain reportedly asked an advisor "Can dodo's be house-trained?"

Obviously not .............. Sarah Palin is still running wild.

Malia seems to be totally and unabashedly happy and excitedly thrilled with her doggie. It gives me great pleasure to see her delight with this pet.

I just love little Sasha. You can almost see the wheels turning in her little head, thinking to herself, "Are all these people here to see our DOG?!" She just kind of stares at them in 7-year-old disbelief! Then once she gets over the shock, she follows her Dad a little, points to Bo and declares, "He doesn't know how to swim!"

ADORABLE! I'm glad these kids can still be so normal even in the most extraordinary of circumstances!

Sasha is my favorite...the way she eyes the crowds with such a serious expression on her face. I fell in love with her the night of the convention, when she was walking across the stage with her mother and sister and she was just looking back at the crowd. She just makes me smile everytime I see her..

One of the things I was really looking forward to when the Obamas got into the White House was having little kids in the White House again. It's been forever since there were children in the White House and it just adds a whole dimension to the First Family that brings everyone in close.

I knew America was going to fall totally in love with this family. And we have.

This brings back so many memories. When I was a little kid, our dog Penny (collie-shepherd mix) arrived as a 8 week old puppy and it was so great. The whole family got involved with the first walk. There was, however, the long and grueling job of house breaking her, which is a real chore. Luckily, Bo has been house broken already. It is interesting that both the President and First Lady grew up without a dog. I am so glad they are giving this experience to their girls. I realize they should not be letting Bo run out in front like that, but I have such a wonderful photo of my Mom with Penny running out a head on her leash. This is a really cute dog. I love the big white boots. Very, very friendly, too. The tail wagging and greeting all the press was good to see.

It is so neat seeing a happy family and I'm glad the girls got their dog. I liked when the Prez said that the dog isn't going to sleep in his bed...they made that rule a long time ago. Too cute!

What's interesting is that neither Obama( Mom & Pop) has owned a puppy while growing up. All of them will enjoy Bo. Keep praying for this family....the forced of evil (led by Fox News and Rush Limbaugh) are still out thers.

What a beautiful puppy, I love the touches of white on the front paws and under the chest. I hope they really enjoy him.

Congratulations and best wishes to the First Family on embarking on the joys of dog ownership! I understand those who wanted the Obamas to adopt a shelter dog. I for one applaud them for doing what was RIGHT for their family and not what was "politically correct". As a nation we need to inject some common sense into this conversation. There are many ways to support the goal of reducing the number of unwanted animals, adopting from a shelter is just one of them!
