Bo Obama: America's First Openly Gay White House Dog (VIDEO)

America can't stop talking about Bo Obama, the 6-month-old Portuguese water dog, the Obamas gave to their daughters. He was a gift from the Kennedy family, and came pre-trained: Bo already sits, shakes, rolls over and Twitters.

The Daily Show, after a week off for the holidays, returned last night and got in on the Bo coverage, announcing that he is in fact the first (openly) gay White House dog.

I have a 2.5 lb female Chihuahua and when she goes into heat, she keeps poking my 15 lb cat with her snout then backing up to him with her tail flipped to one side. The poor cat, who is fixed, just whines in confusion.

Their choice of pet is their business and no one elses. It is too bad we live in a world of copy cats and not original thinkers. If everyone now wants a "portee" that just speaks to the American mind set and there is nothing to prevent that. You can't solve all the pet woos on the sholders of the Obamas. I can't stand any more of this! Not the dog, but the ridiculous and flat out wrong statements that this dog is "hypoallergenic" or "doesn't trigger allergies". This is utter nonsense. Please, somebody, get an allergist on some widely seen program to explain that the allergic reaction is caused by a protein in the saliva and skin cells (which are shed--this is dander which lodges in the hair) present in ANY dog. There are individual dogs that produce much less of this, but it has nothing to do with BREED OR HAIR TYPE. Less shedding will mean a little less dander, but that will only help the mildly allergic. Allergies are a spectrum thing with those on the far end having allergic asthma which seriously impairs breathing. These people cannot tolerate ANY exposure to the offending protein.

Good luck to Malia; I hope her allergies are mild and that the White House has a good air filtering system which will help her more than any particular breed. If the allergies are mild to moderate, she will be able to manage perhaps with medication.

Believe me, if there really was a hypoallergenic breed, it would be worth millions!

Well the allergists and doctors were the one's on the media circuits saying which dogs were less allergenic than others. It was after the allergists, and vets gave their lists that the Obamas were offered all these poodle like dogs from around the world.
