Times Online:

The US President is weak, the Spanish leader is dim, the German Chancellor is clinging on to France's coat-tails and the head of the European Commission is irrelevant.

That, at any rate, is the world according to President Sarkozy, who has spent the week airing his unvarnished opinions of Barack Obama and an array of international politicians -- abruptly ending France's honeymoon with the US and needling Washington on several strategic issues.

Sarkozy looks and moves like a scary, badly-handled puppet. He is exceedingly unpleasant to look at
and walks in jerky, dangling movements as if he were jump-started every second. I am an admirer of French culture, and they have had some pretty impressive heads-of-state. This character is a caricature, completely undeserving of the position he holds. May the French wake up from this Sweeny Todd-like bad dream very soon.

The sad part is he couldn't say that to Obama's face, he'd need a ladder!

I didn't see how his comments were that offensive toward Obama. Sarkozy doesn't have to fawn over Obama, nor is he required to agree with him. Frankly, I don't see a problem with what he said about our President at all. Obama is new at this, and he will make mistakes, but his strength is he is (hopefully) smart enough to realize where he is incorrect and make adjustments...one mistake is not sending a delegation to the Racism conference in Switzerland over some language "offensive" to Israel.

I think France or any other country should be able to call him out for a legitimate policy disagreement. The Republican Party should take note that criticism over a policy disagreement is legitimate, rather than something petty and stupid, like how he greeted the King of Saudi Arabia. It still amazes me that Sarkozy is "center-right". It just shows how far to the right the "U.S. Right" resides. If only our center right was so progressive....

Zapatero of Spain sure is a Big Dummy, I can tell you because I live there. He deliberately refuses to learn english because of his vanity. He is the Forrest Gump of Europe, but with bad intentions.

Obama should not receive him in the White House, instead have him cut the lawn ( I doubt he is smart enough to do it ) or wash the fleet of cars.

Sarkozy appears to have a bit of Obama envy, which the Brits probably enjoy. As for calling Spanish PM Zapatero stupid, Sarkozy seems to be following the Berlusconi model--based on the premise that it will get him reelected.

Sarkozy is a Bush man. The irony of it is that the Republicans say that Obama is turning the US into France. France has changed and votes for the center right now, like Italy and Berlusconi (another Bush pal). Do the math!!! Let's hope Obama all the success in the world. Let's hope he can manage to pull the populace out of the capitalist quagmire that Bush landed us in, and do something for the populace--what socialist countries used to do! Are we dangling over the edge, or am I imagining it?

If I had a wife like that at home, I wouldn't give a rat's a** about the Prime Minister of Spain. LOL.

I got tired of reading, but never saw where he called Obama weak. Did anybody find it? Or is it just Huffpost's "headline grabbing" again?

Mr Sarkozy was also reported yesterday to have cracked a dubious joke about Europe’s “Obamamania”. According to L’Express news magazine, he mentioned Mr Obama’s planned visit to Normandy for the D-day anniversary in June, saying: “I am going to ask him to walk on the Channel, and he’ll do it.”

So now all of you Libs are down on France? I though we were going to make nice with the Europeans?

So now, you think pple shld be in arms with France?
Look at who Presid. Obama is and think for once that do you know how, what, which names he has been called all his life.
There is nothing wrong with pple calling you names WHEN YOU AS A PERSON KNOW EXACTLY WHO YOU ARE! It is then, those who call you names that end up putting their own foot in their mouth...been proven several times.

Anyway, in this world economic and political juncture, the last thing this country needs is a belligerent leader who thinks he's untouchable, arrogant, overspending without accountability and waging unnecessary wars...the leader we shld thank god for giving us is Presid. Obama! Anybody can say whatever they want about POTUS b/c they are allowed BUT is ability to guide the US through this hard times and his & family safety are the most important to me!

I noticed that exact sources weren't cited, so it's really hard to know what may or may not have been really said.

exactly you are right. I read a lot of articles in the French press and nothing of this. Just praise for Obama and the new way America and France will go together.

The only thing -not just the French- but the Europeans are mad at is the fact that President Obama spoke for the entry of the Turkey in the European Union.
It is a very hot problem in Europe. If the Turkey is accepted in the EU the border will be open: no more pass control, no more visas, freedom to seek work in the countries of the Union and freedom to travel. America has to understand that the Turkey has the shape of a dinosaur. The little head is on the European continent and the big body is in Asia. Istanbul is a magnificent and cosmopolitan city in Europe... and the body is not in Europe. Well the Turkey is not an islamic republic and church and state are separated... until now, but you never know and it scares the Europeans.
What would America think if the European Union said: You freed Iraq and made a democracy there. Why you don't allow the Iraqis to travel in and out America without visas and passports?

What would America
