Ian Tomlinson Did Not Die From Heart Attack; Died From Stomach Hemorrhage: Coroner (VIDEO)

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Troubling statements came from the City of London coroner's office Friday regarding its findings from a second autopsy of Ian Tomlinson, the man who died during the G-20 protests earlier this month. The coroners now say that Tomlinson died from a hemorrage in his stomach, and not from a heart attack as was originally thought, the Guardian reports. Tomlinson, a newspaper salesman who was heading home during the protests, was accosted by police officers and knocked to the ground, as the following video shows. Following the release of the video, the police officer shown striking Tomlinson came forward and was suspended by the police department pending further investigation.

Now, according to the Telegraph, the officer in question could be facing manslaughter charges. From the Telegraph:

A Metropolitan police constable seen in video footage appearing to shove Mr Tomlinson to the ground from behind, minutes before he collapsed, has been interviewed under caution over accusations of manslaughter.

A spokesman for the Independent Police Complaints Commissioner said: "Following the initial results of the second post mortem, a Metropolitan Police Officer has been interviewed under caution for the offence of manslaughter as part of an on-going inquiry into the death of Ian Tomlinson."

The officer, from the Met's Territorial Support Group, has been suspended from duty and signed off sick after apparently suffering a panic attack when the story and footage emerged.

Here is a copy of the coroner's Friday press briefing, via the Guardian:

"On 9 April 2009 HM Coroner for the City of London opened and adjourned the inquest into the death of Ian Tomlinson. In so doing he received evidence of identification and the provisional findings and opinion as to the medical cause of death from a report prepared by the consultant forensic pathologist, Dr F Patel, instructed by HM Coroner to conduct the post-mortem examination. The pathologist's final opinion must await the completion of additional tests.

"Dr F Patel made a number of findings of fact including descriptions of a number of injuries and of diseased organs including the heart and liver. He found a substantial amount of blood in the abdominal cavity. His provisional interpretation of his findings was that the cause of death was coronary artery disease.

"A subsequent post-mortem examination was conducted by another consultant forensic pathologist, Dr N Cary, instructed by the IPCC and by solicitors acting for the family of the late Mr Tomlinson. Dr Cary's provisional findings and his interpretation of the findings have been provided to HM Coroner in a further preliminary report (the final report once again awaiting the outcome of further tests). Dr Cary's opinion is that the cause of death was abdominal haemorrhage.

"The cause of the haemorrhage remains to be ascertained. Dr Cary accepts that there is evidence of coronary atherosclerosis but states that in his opinion its nature and extent is unlikely to have contributed to the cause of death. The opinions of both consultant pathologists are provisional and both agree that their final opinions must await the outcome of further investigations and tests. These are likely to take some time. The IPCC's investigation into the death of Ian Tomlinson is ongoing."

The same Police people who are on the media everyday asking criminals or suspected criminals to come forward couldnt get their colleague to step forward untill video evidence surfaced.

YET AGAIN, another police officer murders an unarmed, non-threatening innocent civilian and nothing will happen to them.

What will it take for cops to learn that they are not gods nor executioners but civil servants charged with our protection, not our oppression?

Will citizens have to take justice into their own hands and execute these criminals with badges after the system sets them free as a warning to all rogue cops?

Training doesn't seem to be having any effect on them. They still view citizens as potential perpetrators and act as an occupational force who can brutalize and slaughter anyone they feel like with impunity.

We are in a new era with all these video capturing devices in the hands of "everyman."

This is a good thing, but it is profoundly unfortunate that it has taken the modern video camera to enable justice to occur. I suppose this is par for the proverial course and some may ask what else I may expect. To them I say that I wish police were more and not, as apparently is the case, less likely to be the most vocal in upholding citizens rights.

Did you catch that? He was headed home during the protests-- does that mean he wasn't a protester?

Sometimes it seems like nothing has changed in centuries. Protest about whatever you want, but if you protest the people who rule over the wealth of this world they will stomp you down.

It happens in this country every, single, day. Blacks have been complaining about police brutality since before the 60's. This should not be anything new to people who are looking with their eyes open. Being beaten is part of being detained, stopped, incarcerated, questioned, etc. for black men in this country.

"revoltinglibrarian"

In a world without government, academia or capitalists who will employ you librarians? What's the alternative? You might find such a world was poor, nasty, brutish, and short .

Tell me why the cop is different from a Terrorist who murders? He was exercising deadly force to intimidate democratic free speech on behalf of the G20 leaders.

Looked to me like a case of swiftly progressing coronary artery disease. The beatdown was coincidental to the disease,he just happened to die of old age during the beating.Happens all the time.

PLEASE LOOK AT VANCOUVER BC, HOME TO THE 2010 WINTER OLYMPICS.... & THE MURDERING RCMP / METRO POLICE FORCE!!! A Polish immigrant was killed in the Vancouver International Airport by 4 members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They have already been cleared of facing any criminal punisment by an internal investigaqtion by the RCMP. Now, during the Inquest, the 4 RCMP officers admitted to lying during the previous investigation. 1 of these cops has picked up an additional charge of drunk driving & hit and run. He is still on the job. A month ago, 2 off duty Metro Vancouver Police officers beat and robbed a news paper delivery man around 5AM. They were drunk and did this crime in front of several people. A few years back, MVP took 6 street people to Stanley Park and beat them with billy clubs. THE COPS HERE ARE VIOLENT AND NOT QUALIFIED IN THE WEAPONS THEY HAVE BEEN ISSUSED!
BEWARE POLICE IF VISITING VANCOUVER FOR THE OLYMPICS!!!!

All the attention is now on this one police officer. Quite rightly, justice will and must take its course.

But I'm rather interested on the police tactics before and after the protest. There seemed to be a lot of police "talking up" of violence in advance. Was this wise? During the event there seemed to be a lot of aggression used without obvious provocation. Was this necessary? We need to hear from the senior officers on this, not the low level guys.

Having said this, the British police seem to be kittens compared to some of what goes on in Europe, no guns, water cannon or CS gas.

I thought the police at that event were rather effective. I'd never seen riot police surround the entire crowd like they did. It seemed to keep them at bay because they were out of control, ie, breaking windows and spray painting banks, etc. That kind of stuff is never acceptable, no matter what your cause for protesting is. War is a violent act, and destroying private property and rioting period is also a violent act.

It's another sad day for British Law Enforcement. I've said for a while now that if you dress up the police to look like paramilitaries then they're going to act like them - not all, but it doesn't take many to tarnish the reputation of the police.

First the police said they had no contact with Mr Tomlinson - the video footage showed differently.

Second, the police said they were giving aid while bottles rained down on them - more video footage appears showing this not to be the case.

Third, a coroner sympathetic to the police declared Mr Tomlinson died of a heart attack - a second coroner declares he died from an abdominal haemorrhage.

It all smells rather fishy to me.

Itchy.

True. Also, the IPC( Independent Police commission ) first claimed there was no CCTV coverage, but have since had to admit there was coverage. It doesn't help that the majority of the police took off their ID numbers ( a crime in itself). The police used to be known as the boys in blue. They now resemble storm troopers in black
