AllThingsD:

The bad news for NBC Universal: The TV & movie powerhouse saw earnings drop 45 percent in the last quarter. The good news: The GE unit says that if you stripped out one-time costs, charges, etc, it would have only been down something like 15% - 25%. That's right: For media conglomerates this quarter, down 20% is the new up.

Hey, hire me. I'll improve your ratings. This baldheaded white male is completely out of touch with what the public wants to see. He should have been canned a long time ago.

MSNBC jumped the shark with thier teabag pig piling...Olbermann, Shuster and Maddow's drunken stumble down fraternity row cost them the sober adult audience-that's why they're in a ratings freefall. Shame, too, because we counted on them for the insightful, thoughtful commentary. Unfortunately, the tea bagging vulgarity showed us who they really are...just shallow elitists too eager to poke fun at those different from themselves. And after a promising start, Rach's ratings are now falling faster than KO's chins. Stay away from the cutter folks, and stcik to the real issues.

Maybe they should move a little bit more to the left. LOL

You'd have to have at least a blip on the ratings scale to do that.

Earnings drop? That is money correct?

So advertisers are not plunking down the big bucks is that correct? This is tenuously related to ratings correct? Not directly related, but related by what the advertisers are willing to pay, correct?

My only comment and idea is to make MSNBC a real Cable News Network. 24/7 news (and opinion) and dump the crime and prison stuff someplace else. But that is for selfish reasons.

All of the NBC Universal properties (networks like NBC, USA, Bravo, SciFi/SyFy, MSNBC, CNBC) are on the skids. SciFi lost its way long ago, deciding to air really bad movies, reruns of old shows, and WRESTLING! Plus, Universal Home Entertainment is in a legal skirmish with Redbox, who it's trying to stop from renting its movies for $1 a night. They also charge 99 cents to view an OnDemand showing of their series like Law & Order (no other networks do that). Bottom line... they are competely out of touch with the viewers and consumers. No surprise that they lose so much money.

Gosh, sometimes it helps when you read--- the article notes that it's the local nbc networks that are on the skids--their cable networks (USA, Bravo, MSNBC and CNBC) are strong.

Other than Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow I might agree. CNN is worse.
