Stephen Colbert

Last night Stephen Colbert proclaimed his utter hatred for gay marriage and aired his own ad to support for NOM (the National Organization for Marriage). NOM released a Web ad last week that portrays a "gay storm" coming to wipe out Christian values. As Colbert said, "It is like watching the 700 Club and the Weather Channel at the same time."

As a result of the recent wins for gay marriage in Vermont and Iowa, Stephen got riled up, but it wasn't til Governor David Paterson introduced gay marriage legislation here in Stephen's home state of New York that he took action. He made his own gay marriage storm ad because as Stephen says, "New York can't handle a flood of gay marriage. As it is it's impossible to get a wedding announcement in the 'Times.' I had to release Carbon Monoxide into an apartment building then work the wedding into the police interview."

My divorce hurt me far more than any gay marriage has. Shouldn't we all just chill and go build some schools or windmills or something and let people love the way they want??

BTW This may be the funniest thing Colbert has ever done.

Check out Steve Hughes (comedian) who does a piece about how Straight is the New Gay.

He is a death metal fan who loved cooking at school ("I was an angry man, but you've got to eat"), he used to get teased by the jocks who called him gay. His response: I'm icing cakes with 30 chicks and you're taking a shower with your buddies - who's gay?

He goes on to say that his metal mates were homophobic, because they thought gay men are not real men, they're not tough.

His response: Gay men aren't tough? They f**k men! What do straight guys want - they want a woman who are soft, feminine, pretty. What do you want Dave? I want a big strong bloke to f**k me in the arse, or is that a bit tough for your pussi loving mates!

Genius - straight is defo the new gay!!!

Ok, people. I have the solution. What we want to save is marriage, right? Well, let's outlaw the real threat to marriage.

As far as I can tell, too much heterosexuality is way more of a threat to traditional marriage than homosexuality. Let's criminalize adultery!

Think about how many marriages you know that have been broken up by too much heterosexuality. How many do you know of that have been broken up by too much homosexuality? There you have it-- your solution to preserving marriage.

The only marriages in danger from homosexuality are those where homosexuality is an issue.

Criminalize adultery.

I hear this argument all the time but its a non-starter when actually talking to anti-same-sex marriage people. I know a whole lot of them and they actually would like to criminalize adultery if it was politically feasible. They still complain about the evils of no-fault divorces and things like that.

ban divorce. that will make them stand up straight. I remember when divorce was illegal.

But, adultery is actually illegal in some states.

I'm from Massachusetts and I can tell you that life hasn't been the same since gay marriage has been legalized. Just the other day I was accosted on the street, forced to buy Prada loafers and watch America's Next Top Model. My testosterone is so depleted I barely have the strength to burp. It's the end of the world as we know it.

The NOM video reminds me of propaganda against a select group of scape-goats... what year is this? It's like the 1930s-40s only with youtube. Isn't it time to get over this kind of hatred?

I find it so hypocritical that those opposed to samesex marriage seem to have no issue with the joke we call "straight" marriage. They value it so much, look how easy it is to get a divorce? I rarely, if ever, hear these same people talk about the state of marriage in general.

And what about serial marriers? Liz Taylor etc don't do much for the cause of straight marriage.

I'm surprised that the businesses that court the pink pound have not realised how much money they can make out of gay marriages....

Jesus reportedly condemned divorce but said nary a word about homosexuality. divorce killed nelson rockefeller's political future. but when divorced "saint ronny" became head of the one true church, the morals had to change.

What is this California doctor "who has to choose between my faith and job" all about? Moronic to the core. Besides, I'm sure these people don't know it, but "The Gathering Storm" was a popular Marxist novel back in the 1930s that was written to convince the masses to bring Communism to the United States. Such delicious irony is hard to buy.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:31 PM on 04/21/2009

Concerning the doctor, I believe she refuses to treat gays and lesbian patients, but is now being forced to.

Corporations are creating gay populations by using plastics and products that leach estrogen and hormones into our bodies and thus creating a less and less males in our species. We should allow them to marry, considering they are a product of "our" a polluted and contaminated world! The disappearing male is a sure sign of a depopulation program taking effect!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:45 PM on 04/20/2009

There are just as many gay men that are more `male ` than straight men. Homosexuality has always been around and in most advanced civilizations and depopulation obviously did not occur centuries ago

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:56 PM on 04/20/2009

Yeah, homosexuality has been around since the Pharaohs and before, but homosexuality is much more pervasive throughout our society than even 20 years ago. Anyway, just look into the effects of estrogen on frogs and the disappearance of the "true" male, into a more feminized male. Basically, how ever you look at it, we are being genetically mutated by poisonous products and by the processed GMO foods we consume. Gay or not, this is effecting all of us!!

Most Gay men I know have more testosterone than the Straight ones. If you mean the population is moving further and further away from the Neanderthal stage of man.... well that's evolution.

Yeah... um... well, maybe you didn't get the memo...but, "Separate But Equal" kinda didn't work. We even tried the "white" and the "colored" water fountain thing. It didn't work. OK? Maybe you noticed that all of the Jim Crowe stuff was over when we elected our first African-American President. it's time to take off your pointy hat and white robe and move on with life. We're just gonna have to integrate all of our minorities into the whole of society and share each and every one of our Constitutional rights with them. Will that work for you?

I would be interested in this option -- if it was the same for ALL couples. NO marriage, only civil unions granted by the federal or state govt. If you feel a need to be "married," go talk to the cult of your choice and have them do it it separately.

The world definitely does not need MORE loving and committed unions.

Is is possible that some posters do not realize that Stephen Colbert is spoofing the NOM ad?

over 50% of marriages end in divorce. how are gays getting married going to hurt marriage? if they want to be miserable, let them. i'm 30, and almost every single woman i meet has an ex-husband and 2 kids. of all the women i know with kids, only 2 are still with the fathers.
so how will equal rights for gays hurt marriage? this is just another example of one part of the population denying rights to another part of the population. it's the same kinda wing-uts that are anti-immigrant (though none of their skins are red, so they all come from immigrants). they get a sense of supremecy treating other people like dirt.

They feel threatened. Republicans are in a box, by their own making. They are very comfortable in their constricted box - it's like a security blanket for them. Step outside that box; challenge them to open their minds and their hearts, and their insecurities rise to the surface. Their reactions to what goes on around them is based upon hate, ignorance, apathy and fear. Democrats, civil rights, woman's rights, gay's rights, challenge them to accept differences which they are uncomfortable with. They are threatening themselves with their bigotry, not the gays.
