"Several Republican members of Congress spoke at Tea Party protests around the country on Wednesday," CNN reported. "Some were applauded. Others heckled. But only one, it appears, was booed relentlessly for the entire duration of his speech: Rep. Gresham Barrett of South Carolina."

Barrett faced the ire of the tea party protesters because of his vote last year for the $700 billion, Bush administration-backed financial bailout. Now, the Republican congressman is prepping for a South Carolina gubernatorial run in what is expected to be a competitive GOP primary. If the tea party protesters were any reflection of Republicans in the state, he's got an uphill climb.

The conservative S.C. blog, the Palmetto Scoop, captured the moment:

Protesters screamed "go home" and blew air horns during the duration of Barrett's five minute speech. Some even turned their backs to him.

Messages on dozens of signs and hundreds of fliers also expressed a similar contempt for "Bailout Barrett."

The gubernatorial candidate did his best to deliver his speech, but the crowd never let up.

"I know you're mad, I know you're frustrated, and I hear you," a shaken Barrett said over the crowd. "You may boo, you may turn your back on me, but I'll never turn my back on you."

CNN added, "The booing and shouting continued for the entire five minutes Barrett was on stage. When he pointed out that he recently introduced a bill called the TEA Act to stop wasteful government spending, one protested yelled repeatedly: 'Too late!'"

anyone who is willing to speak at a gathering of wing-nuts probably deserves whatever treatment they are accorded. the Tea Baggers represent a diverse collection of angry right-wingers....some are mad about taxes, some about abortion, some about gun control, some about gay marriage, some because their skivies are too tight, and some about all the above. bottom line..they represent the very fringe of the political spectrum and only will cheer someone who is as wacko as they are.....

So much for freedom of speech and thought in the republican party.
The convoluted reasoning is amazing. They support Geo. Bush even thought he purposely started a war of choice which was a substantial factor in our economic downturn. But they rally against a republican congressman who supported a Bush policy aimed at trying to mitigate the damage Bush did to the economy. Pick a side you idiots. Or at least pick consistent policy positions.

Republicans: Take credit for everything, and responsibility for nothing.

Many conservatives were against the war and against TARP ( both of which happened AFTER he was elected_.

Just like many people voted for Obama even though they support gay marriage and he does not.

Politics is not all white hat, black hat.

Until they are done eating their own; Progressives have nothing to worry about.
Then they have to come up with something besides gay marriage and abortion, because most of the once Republican workers have seen the trickle down theory and how it really works.

You have been deceived as to the true message of the protest and therefor you don't see why it was a protest that was organized originally by people of the Campaign For Liberty and then leached onto by Fox news. Sure their hate mongers jumped on board and I'm sure some of them were out there at the protests and so you say we should drop our message and just abandon ship because the tricksters jumped on and tried to sink it? That is what they intend.

Audit The Fed!!! Yes To HR1207!!!
Stop Bailing Out Banks With Huge Loans On Bad Assets From The Tax Payers Pocket!!!
Bring Our Troops Home!!! Start making the real change that we heard so much about.

The TEA Parties were funded by major corporations with republican interest...
Face it your a tool for the wealthy, who don't wish to pay their fair share in taxes, and want us hard working middle class ppl. to cover the gap. So good look with that.

No, you have been decieved as to who promoted, advertised and hoped to benefit from the "tea parties". And BTW, where have you been for the last eight years? The debt was accrued over 8 years. Our soldiers have been killed and maimed physically and mentally (which DOES make them a risk to society - PTSD) for 8 years, Corporations have been scamming and running roughshod over the economy, politics and the environment for 8 years. Some of us have been protesting for 8 years. Did you?
