This is on the political page because....? This web site really is living up to its new name FLUFFpo.
What a joke

It's on the "Style" page? Can't you read?

Ok, I'll admit it- I'm a middle-aged fan of the Obama girls. They're sweet girls and they've got spunk. And it's clear that though the circumstances around them are exceptional (hey, _my_ dad wasn't President!), Barack and Michelle are doing their best to keep the family as normal as possible.

My real question is- knowing that the Obamas are Harry Potter fans, if Malia went to Hogwarts, what House would she be in? There really isn't enough out there about her personality to make a good guess. (Her dad, on the other hand, is very clearly a Ravenclaw...)
11:45 AM on 04/20/2009
Oh, that is a good question Laura....

I think it would be a toss up between Ravenclaw (she seems like a very intelligent young lady and very clever) or Hufflepuff (she seems like be very caring and considerate of others).

Also, if I had young daughters I would much rather them look up to girls like Malia and Sasha rather then Miley. In my book Miley is not someone I would want my daughters to look up to.

The first daughters are NOT tweens. I get so tired of people saying that. They are little girls still in elementary school. The are 7 and 10 years old.
10:44 PM on 04/19/2009
Thank you. They are precious little children. They are not teenagers, far from it. To compare them to nightclub hopping, no panty wearing pop stars is silly at best. I imagine that at 7 and 10 years old, Lindsey, Britney, and Miley were cute little girls that were probably well behaved in public. There is no comparison between these children and teenage pop stars.
11:28 PM on 04/19/2009
I agree with both of you. Sasha and Malea are STILL little girls and deserve some semblance of privacy. As far as them being well behaved...thank Mama Robinson and Michelle and Barack for that. It is called "home training"..a lost art.

It would be difficult for me to find a prettier thing than two little sisters whose mother loves them and whose father adores them. Who wouldn't want to stand close to that? Bless them and keep their family safe.
10:50 PM on 04/19/2009
I guess what surprises me most here is people that think families with 2 cute kids with happily married parents are an oddity. I know many, many well grounded smart married couples with cute well behaved kids, black and white. Maybe it is not the norm anymore. Just out of curiosity, did you really think George W. and Laura didn't love their 2 little girls? That Richard Nixon and Pat didn't love theirs? The list goes on and on. Happy families that love their children should be normal.

If every little girl in the world were happy, this would be a worderful world, eh? Happy little girls are a blessing on the world. Are you irritated by people noticing these children? You find it difficult to see how these little girls are "all that"?

If you went to Wal-Mart every day and got a load of the typical American family and how their kids behave, you'd find the First Family an oddity, too, sadly. If I had a dollar for every time I almost got run down by some kid on his or her rollerskate shoes, I could retire right now. If there is any good to come with bombarding the Obama family with so much unwarranted coverage, it's that people are seeing a tangible example of a successful extended family that knows how to raise kids right!

One has only to recall the swearing-in ceremony of Rudy Giuliani in New York City a few years ago to know that a prominent family having well-behaved kids is not a given!

Ummmm difference is Miley has talent and a thriving career. The only thing these girls have is the fact their daddy is president. Sorry but in the real world that is not "experience" as a career

They are as cute as can be and I bet they are smart little girls who will do quite well without dancing, singing or acting.

Whom are you railing against? The tweens that love the Obama girls? I mean... you can't be upset with the Obama girls since they haven't pretended to anything other than what they are: 2 little girls. And that's the point.

I'm just waiting for Limbaugh and Beck to hate on them like Limbaugh (and McCain) did Chelsea Clinton and Beck did the Williams sisters.

These poor girls are being propped up by the press and adults, not tweens! So much for Michelle keeping their lives pretty much normal!

Another day, another baseless knock on Michelle... even when the article has $hit to do with her!

It's not a knock at Michelle. Michelle wants them to lead normal lives or as close to normal as possible, going as far as to request only press pics be taken at events. If the knock is at anyone, it is at the press and the adults. These girls now get fan mail and have unofficial websites named after them. At their age that is a lot to take. So, your remark seems to be baseless.

What a pointless comment. Michelle has about as much control over tweens or the media be obsessed with the Obama girls as she has control over your catty post.

Doh! That's exactly my point! These young ladies lives have been changed forever. Again, sigh!, where was it a knock on Michelle? Sigh!

"Move over Miley".....I wish someone would move that brat out of the spotlight! Enough of her and her too big for her britches, no parental guidance attitude already.

I'll take the Obama girls over the Cyrus publicity machine any day.
06:28 PM on 04/19/2009
Reading the entire story it's really rather sweet. Certainly, these two girls are far better choices to look up to than Miley Cyrus. But, they are just girls, and if they're father gets a second term they'll grow up in the national spotlight, which I'm sure won't be kind. Fortunately, they have thus far been treated much kinder than most children of presidents. I can remember the horrid things said about Chelsea Clinton for no other than having the shear audacity to be a gangly kid with braces. Rush Limbaugh especially was the cruelest of the group back then. Hopefully, these two will be spared some of that, but they are kids growing up; they're sure to make mistakes and I have no doubt the media will be there the chronicle every little incident.

I don't like that they're dressed like adults. Seriously, they did that to me and it sucked.
04:56 PM on 04/19/2009
You mean they have clothes on instead of onsies?
05:45 PM on 04/19/2009
That's how many Black mothers dress their daughters for church and special occasions. When the girls are "slumming", they wear sneakers, tank tops, and jeans like everybody else. I'm sure you've seen pictures of them like that.

You're projecting. I loved to dress up when I was a little girl, and these girls seem to like it too. Some how I don't think Michelle would make them wear something they didn't like.

The majority of JCrews customers are caucasians, so obviously many caucasian mothers dress their daughters for church and special occasons. Everything isn't black and white and not a lesson on black culture.

seriously most of the kids i know love them some sasha fierce and cool malia. i find it endearing, and so far i think they are good roll models for the youngins.

when my neice heard sasha fierce was on the bball team she immediately wanted to join her school's team. she did not make it, which was a let down for her. but she is on the cheer leading team, so things worked out.

What an advance over Miley! The actual family values of the Obama are what the divorce-riddled, "in recovery" Boomers did all in their power to destroy by making they "square," from the Sixties on. Fortunately, the Boomers are getting to be irrelevant geezers now, opening the American cultural landscape to the influence of the Obamas, who walk the walk of The Greatest Generation, completely eschewing the radical disfunction and narcissism of the Boomers' "if it feels good, do it" philosophy. You go, Sasha and Malia! The Obama family is leading America out of the Boomers' narcissistic, family-wrecking abyss, just as Obama himself is leading the country out of the economic bankruptcy, on every level, the Boomers' addiction to fantasy and greed--from the boardroom to the subprime mortgage signings--almost destroyed this country with. The Worst Generation, by far.

Hey! Jeanrenoir!! I am a Boomer. I may be getting a bit up in age; but, honey, ain't nuthin' wrong with my faculties! I LOVE this President and his family and did all I could to help get him elected. His elegance and educational eloquence and abilities make this "old" former schoolteacher's heart swell with pride.

And I ain't the least bit "narcissistic" and neither are my "boomer" friends and family. And our families are quite intact and not "wrecked". You do NOT know of which you speak.

My nieces and young cousins are fans of Malia and Sasha, they too think one day they'll meet the girls and if not at least Michelle. The article hit it dead on, their parents dilemia is that they can't buy tickets to a Malia/Sasha concert, movie or buy their dvds, so the hard part is not being able to help their kids meet their role models. The fact that these girls have a clean whole someness to them and a loving relationship with their parents makes make them role models parents can love.

My sister surfs the net and finds any behind the scenes pix of the President/MO and the girls and show them to her girls for rewards.

All parents understand and agrees with Michelle and POTUS with their desire to keep their girls out of the limelight and allow them the chance to have a normal life. The dog pictures and the Easter roll were two big unexpected pleasures in many homes last week.

Move over Miley? I don't think so. Miley has something the Obama girls never will have. She has a father who will who re her out to the Dizney Corp.
