Atlantic Council:

"The move by Taliban-backed militants into the Buna district of northwestern Pakistan, closer than ever to Pakistan's capital of Islamabad, have prompted concerns both within the country and abroad that the nuclear-armed nation of 165 million is on the verge of inexorable collapse." So begins a report from TIME's Aryn Baker.

In the 1950's the US supported an unpopular leader in Cuba. Batista.
In the 1960's the US supported an unpopular leader in Vietnam and we ran a puppet government. What happened?. In the 1980's we supported Saddam Hussan. In the 1990's we supported Osama Ben Laden. In 2002 we threw our support behind General Musharraf.

Lesson learned. If your Government is in bed with the US and CIA, get ready to pack your bags.

WE GAVE THEM NUKES AND WEAPONS HOW NOVEL! WHY WERE WE IN IRAQ?

The Taliban was largely a creation of the Pakistani intelligence services. The Taliban has both sponsors and support in very high places in government. They are and will continue inching their way to the capital until the government falls and the military will be under Taliban control. A Taliban controlled government will not hesitate in using Pakistans nuclear arsenal.

this is horrific . . . bush, cheney, bliar . . . should have focused on Afghanistan . . .not only militarily but to implement and create a new economy . . . they lost precious lives and time . . . but they had to illegally invade Iraq . . . for no reason other than their greed for oil .. . when will politicians learn that the protesters are always right . . . American foreign policy since WWII has been a disaster . . .

what is happening in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan is further proof that the perpetrators of the Iraq war and its torture practises should be brought to justice . . . we owe the victims this much . . .

Folks, Pakistani Army is deeply involved in this. If they can take the mighty Indian army, why are they not fighting the Taliban. Be wary and skeptical. It is well with Pakistani Army to create a big drama to stage the next coup.

The Pakistan Military is almost a million man strong. They possess artillery and air power and another million men in the civilian rear guard, who are probably more dangerous than the regulars. They are going to step into the middle of the chaos, for their own ends.

This is all a big game for all countries - USA, Pakistan, India, Iran, Saudi Arabia & China. The innocent citizens suffer in the process. Sadly USA picks the wrong side for than once necessary.

This is not good.
Thanks for nothing, Cheney.

Don't forget Bush, Rice, Rumsfield, for this pending catastrophic implosion of a nuclear state.

The American political leadership is so lucky (both party varieties). They can whip the ill-informed, gullible, and war-like population into a frenzy with nothing more than a few editorials. Since Americans, by and large, have little knowledge of history or anything outside their own borders the job is even easier.

And Liberal America - the portion that prides itself on reason, thoughtfulness and good intentions - only needs a Democrat in the WH to be ready for whatever wars/invasions/occupations can be cooked up and given a basis in popular opinion by way of a few editorials.

The truly rational, reasonable, knowledgeable and thoughtful never get their voices heard...not on the TV, not in the newspaper, and certainly not on the campaign trail. They don't say things that can be published in big red font for the headline.

It ain't the states that vote Republican that deserve the moniker "Dumbf#ckistan". We might as well rename the whole thing -from sea to shining sea- The United States of Dumbf#ckistan.

Jack. I have to admit. You are correct in your assessment of the over-all problem with this country.
and it has nothing to do with being a Republican or a Democrat either. its the lack of education.
Democracy can only thrive within an educated society. One more generation. Maybe
sigh.. I'm 70 so I remember when....

The U.S. has to take control of their nuke arsenal if they are overthrown. I sure there are many contingency plans ready to roll if this takes place.

Well lets hope not yet. But the touching of a girls posterior in the flogging may have more to do with saving the world from nuclear Armegadon than the pansy Pakistani army. Seems the country is upset with the phony religious killers. That girls backside may save the world !!!

Maybe Musharaf should have remained in Power. .... Some people thought they could do better ...
Not every country can handle democracy.
06:56 AM on 04/24/2009
Musharaf also believes Bin Laden has been dead for a while.
09:27 AM on 04/24/2009
Many people including the ex head of FBI counter intelligence Dale Watson believe he is dead. So did Benazir Bhutto
08:45 AM on 04/24/2009
This is the angle Pakistan Army is working on. Create enough panic, so that the World is relieved to see PA running the country. It is back to old time then. Troubling the region.
03:03 AM on 04/24/2009
Bin Laden is dead...Benzahir Bhutto said it on BBC right before she was shot. The entire 9-11 story is a lie...a cover-up. Until we come to terms with the basis for this fight we will see worse things happens in Pakistan.
05:58 AM on 04/24/2009
Honestly, that video appears to me to show a slip of the tongue. She was referring to another guy. Probably doesn't detract from your main insight about the basis for the fight, though.
06:55 AM on 04/24/2009
I wondered that too but she doesn't correct herself and either does Robert Frost.

You think if bin Laden is dead everything is fine? Read the Koran. Everything will never be fine.
