Washington Post:

Barack Obama's performance in the first 100 days of his presidency draws strong public approval in a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, but there is decidedly less support for his recent decision to release previously secret government memos on the interrogation of terrorism suspects, an initiative that reveals deep partisan fissures.

Bush had ratings like this at one time, too, if you are to believe the pollsters.

All I can think to say is--so what? 70% were wrong then.

Do I really have to point out the obvious here? Things were very different during Bush's and Obama's first 100 days. When Bush came in, the economy was good, we weren't at war, and our standing around the world was at an all time high. When Obama came in, the economy was screwed up(by Bush), plus we're in 2 wars. You're being glib in your comparison. EPIC FAIL!

Newbie, You miss the point, which is that 70% can be led by the nose to believe whatever they read in the MSM. Apparently you fall in this group.

Try actually thinking for yourself--I know it hurts--next time, before trying to correct your betters.

Rasmussen, the most accurate of all polls, has Obam's approval rating 15 percentage points lower than than ABC/Washington Post . Wow! What a surprise!!

Rasmussen is OBVIOUSLY the outlier. It just drags down the other averages.

They are 10 points below everyone else. Even Faux.
They lie.

So sespite Fox completely abanconing any concept of neutral reporting, Limbaugh trying his hardest to rally the troops, and all this astroturf 'tea parties' and Obama's numbers are still excellent. It is clear that LImbaugh, Hannity, etc. are just screaming at a small choir in an empty church.

As for the torture memos he has started a ball rolling that he can't stop so the best thing he can do is to stand out of the way.

He should appoint a commission full of people with highly respected nonpartisan credentials in the inteligence, military, and law fields, give them the ability to subpoena people to testify under oath, and charge them with finding out exactly how this happened, the usefullness of what was discovered using these techniques, and whether these techniques were therefore justified.

Then Obama should have Gibbs answer any further question regarding Torture with an unwillingness to interfere with the commission. And when Cheney wants to talk on Fox News, but refuses to testify to the commission, well that will speak volumes.

Message to The Masses: "Beware The Cult of Personality".

You're right in some cases. However, I see a sense of hope all over this area. From the day after the election, people started lightening up....they even said "excuse me".

Maybe you don't remember the sense of hope we had after JFK's election. There was a young family in the White House. We mourned the death of a new born son, then we mourned the loss of his father, the President.

I think the cult lies in the far right wing old time stigmas. Starting a revolution because of policies and race are going back to the dark days of this country.

Especially when the cult is conservatism, and the personality is Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Glen Beck.

I applaid the presidents poll numbers however, here's my thought:

I f a US veteran (disabled) - which the Veterans Administration exhausted $100,000 dollars on education and retraining - can be "disqualified from a federal DOJ position because of filing a bankruptcy to save his home, Everyone of the officials that signed-off om those torture memos, persons involved in the fired AG's conspirators, etc ought to fry - crispy.

This story was related to a 1997 incident which I reported on and never gained legs. Asa veteran myself and former journalist/producer I am hoping that President Obama and the AG do the correct thing - start the trials.

Sure we have pressing issues to resolve before us but nothing is more pertinent than the preservation of rule of law within our society. Equality.

Without "rule of law" and justice the other matters are subsequent and irrelevant because we are condoning tyranny.

Don't be hoodwinked or bamboozled by the right or left - we must heed the humane voice within our hearts and unequivocally declare TORTURE is WRONG.

Hey tro//s you huffed and puffed and still could not blow the president down. Your ineffective tea parties, elected no saying officials, Rush wishing him to fail and Cheney the has been, did not put a dent in his approval ratings. His ratings are soaring and the republican ratings are in the toilet!

I think he has done a great job ,so far, however, the real results are yet to come. I don't like the way he has handled the prohibition issue or his stance of 'looking forward' on the tor ture issue. I think both of these issues will make his foreign policy acheivements, more difficult, with our southern neighbors, and in the mideast, as well as continuing more problems here at home. Anyway, I know I made the right choice voting for him, and am overall happy with his performance,so far. My biggest surprise is how good of a job Hillary has done, at SOS. She is tenacious and busy, and saying all the right things, and she proved me wrong. If I was grading now, i would give dems in congress a C, repubs in congress would get an F. the administration would get a B.
