Joshua Cartwright: Another Deadly Gunman "Severely Disturbed" Over Obama's Election

Elizabeth Cartwright woke up at 9:30 in the morning on Saturday when her husband couldn't find the Clearasil.

Her husband Joshua "started an argument because he insisted that it was in her purse," according to the police report. She "told him that it was in the bathroom but her husband became increasingly upset."

The couple started brawling in their Florida apartment. Elizabeth managed to escape and get herself to a hospital and call the police, but Joshua didn't stop raging until after he had killed two sheriff's deputies at a gun range, and police officers shot him dead.

According to the police report, Elizabeth Cartwright said her husband "believed that the US Government was conspiring against him. She said he had been severely disturbed that Barack Obama had been elected President."

It isn't the first shooting incident in recent weeks after which a crazed gunman's political ravings have made headlines. On April 4, after Richard Poplawski killed three police officers, several of Poplawski's friends told the Associated Press that Poplawski "feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns."

From the Northwest Florida Daily News:

"None of it's logical, none of it makes sense," said interim Sheriff Ed Spooner on Sunday. "He'd obviously just got something else in his mind."

The AP reports that Cartwright exchanged fire with the deputies after being stunned with a Taser:

"When that Taser released after five seconds, he came up shooting," Interim Okaloosa County Sheriff Edward Spooner said.

"He went from just being disagreeable to using deadly force in a matter of seconds. It was a very aggressive move with a concealed weapon on his part."

Spooner said that between 30 and 40 rounds were exchanged between Cartwright and the two deputies.

Read the Heller opinion. Justice Scalia actually affirmed the NRA's insane argument that the Second Amendment gives individuals the right to stockpile firearms against our democratic government should it become "tyrannical" one day. These maniacs actually believe they have the right to shoot and kill law enforcement and other local, state and federal officials and that's what we're seeing play out with Richard Poplawski, Joshua Cartwright, Daniel Hayden, etc.

It' s shame to think for one second that the news reports are now taken as gospel... Have we forgotten to think for ourselves? There are many " nut cases ", but are we to believe: that it's ok to approach a possible armed man at a gun range when there was no threat presented by Mr. Cartwright. Why would the officers do such a thing.... Just over a year ago another officer was killed because after 5 hours the sherriffs dept. desided to storm the house.... Morris, the sherriff for the county of Okaloosa was convicted of stealing county funds...Has anyone considered that just maybe the Sherriff Dept. needs some training????? They seem to be making judgment calls they are not trained to make.....I can't wait ot see how this all plays out in the near future.. when the officers wifes and family come out of the shock of thier loss.... and start asking questions about how this could possibly happen....I think there will be wrongful death suits brought against the county by all concerned... formost the sherriffs dept should be concerned about the safety of the area and it's own men.... THINK... use our reason.... We will not let someone get away that has done wrong...But lets do things in a manner to which we all go to our families at night......

I remember when more than a few years back, I joined the NRA and the State Rifle assoc. because they offered training to be a firearms instructor for security personnel. I paid my dues and remained a member for about 3 years until I attended a gathering of members in a rural town. I'm glad I was armed. I was the only Black person there and the looks and comments I got that afternoon made me think.
If you want assualt weapons bans and all that other stuff. Organize Blacks and Hispanics to join the NRA in record numbers, and in a matter of months the general public will declare the NRA as Un-American and have its charter banned by the U.S. government.
That's how crazy this has become.

We have many different races in our chapters. Myself, I am mixed heritage Hispanic-Asian. I have never gotten or seen anyone get treated as you say.

People with underlying mental illnesses can not be categorized by the things they focus on. I could be anything from Obama to the price of peanuts that could set them off. What is becoming a disturbing aspect of these violent outbreaks is both the current frequency of the attacks and our inability to notice when a person is close to the edge of a violent outbreak. What do you do when a relative is starting to scare you with the things they are saying?
