Obama's Golf Shorts: Should Grown Men Wear Shorts? (PHOTOS, POLL)

President Obama is known for his impeccable manners (see a blog post to this effect by Emily Post's great-great-granddaughter), but during a golf outing to Andrews Air Force Base on Sunday, the commander-in-chief broke a style dictate that says grown men should never wear shorts. The men (and woman) accompanying Obama all wore pants. See photos below and then vote in the poll.

I've never heard of such an asinine "rule." I live in So CA, am pushing 70 and almost never wear LONG pants!! I do wear long pants out to dinner, theater, or whenever the occasion requires formal wear. And sometimes, at home, the shorts are only garment on me along with a tee. And don't go "iewwww." :)

Geez, who cares? He could wear clamshells for all I care. As long as he's doing his job, and he seems to be doing it really well, unlike the mouth-breathing, brush-cutting Slacker from Gooberland, he's fine.

It's the golf shoes (they look like what they called "saddle shoes" back in the day)...and the short little socks. The whole thing makes him look like a goober in that one shot of him.

Here is the rule, from the beginning of human civ, the most powerful person in the room....generally, they set the manner of accepted dress. Take for example, the story of the "Emperor's new Clothes"...while it ends badly for the Emperor (due to the actions of a plucky child), the story reflects that 99.999% of the people involved are just going to follow along.

Now, in the US, we are far more egalitarian than our forefathers. Obama could have coordinated, via his staff, having everyone show up in shorts. "Please attend this golf outing in shorts, as the President will be wearing shorts" and you would have seen a LEGION of people in shorts.

Instead, his attitude is "I am wearing shorts. You wear what you want, this is PLAY time" - Quite frankly, that is the attitude I want in friend, in community member, and in a President.

You can wear a unitard, or a thong for all I care, lets play golf (or what ever game you enjoy), lets not make him, or anyone else, a fashion plate 100% of the time.
