President Obama's health "was never in danger" despite his trip to Mexico on April 16 and 17, when the swine flu outbreak was beginning in that country, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters on Monday.

During the visit, Obama spent time with a national museum director who ended up dying a few days later, reportedly after experiencing some flu-like symptoms. The White House released a statement on Monday afternoon confirming that the man, Felipe Solis Olguin, did not have swine flu. Gibbs also noted that the incubation period for swine flu is one to two days and the President's visit to Mexico happened more than a week ago.

According to other news reports:

Spokesman Reid Cherlin says that the White House has been keeping a close eye on the so-called "swine flu," which has already claimed 81 lives in Mexico, and there are 8 confirmed cases in the U.S. and several dozen more probable ones, including 8 students at a New York City private school. While initially transmitted by pigs, the virus can spread from human to human, raising fears of a flu pandemic.

The real story about the swine flu that the media is not telling you is how the run-off from overpopulated swine pens caused this human epidemic. Also Smithfield is the largest pork production company in the world. A factory in Mexico owned by Smithfield is where the virus had it's beginnings.

So the media actually buried two major stories. One being the environmental disaster caused by pork farming and also how the North American Free Trade Initiative was used not to employ more Mexican and American workers, instead the treaty was used to enrich corporations and to flout american environmental laws.

That is the true story. If we don't get on President Obama's case about Environmental rights, human rights and financial transparency then nothing will have changed.

From all news sources, apparently 149 people in Mexico have died of "swine flu." However, only 20 of those deaths have been confirmed to result from swine flu. The remaining 129 are still being tested. While the news that this disease results from an admixture of bird flu, swine flu, and human flu viruses is troubling, and the fact that it is transmissible between humans is troubling, the death rate is very low and the few in the U.S. who have contacted the disease appear to be exhibiting very mid symptoms.

So everybody calm down. The time to panic is when the disease kills 50 per cent or more of those who catch it. A ten per cent death rate is not that worrisome.

" A ten per cent death rate is not that worrisome."

Unless you are the one in ten who dies....

I'm glad the WH finally gave an official response on the President's condition especially considering so many people around the net were worried about POTUS, since he had recently visited Mexico. It doesn't sound good that someone he visited with died:(
I know they're doing everything they can to make sure POTUS is okay, but this gives me the jetties.

I have noticed a thread of entitlement and arrogance from contributors.
I suspect this is the "America" that the rest of the world has issues with.
Time to straighten up and fly straight. You are part of the world community, not the top of the heap any longer.
Lets not assume that other countries lie in the same way that American administrations do. Some worse yes but some so much better.

And you believe them, why?
Of course they are going to deny that someone from their gov't, who met with Obama, died of this flu. You don't think the US would do the same?

I have no idea whatsoever why people would believe this. Lots of things can cause cardiac arrest.
Including respiratory failure due to influenza. Technically, we all expire from 'cardiac arrest'.

Olguin's official obituary indicates that he died on April 23rd of cardiac arrest.
