Rahm Emanuel On Obama's First 100 Days (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 05/30/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:15 PM ET

Rahm Emanuel appears on ABC's "World News With Charlie Gibson" Wednesday night to discuss President Obama's first 100 days.

"Did he essentially run for one job and get another?" ABC News' Charles Gibson asked Emanuel.

"I think I can reflect, the president's view is, you know, we inherited these set of problems," Emanuel responded. "That's not to point fingers, but the fact that that's the set of problems, and that's basically the hand he's been dealt."

"I think what we can extract from the first 100 days is that this is a president who is not afraid to meet the challenges," Emanuel later added. "I've always said that the best kind of metaphor is the president has a very open hand but a firm handshake."

The full interview airs at 6:30 P.M. ET.

THE BUSH-CHENEY YEARS - PRIME MARX BROTHERS MATERIAL

For a long time the NRA used to control the American agenda. The media played along.
Having the right to owning guns was the overriding issue. Certain issues of Protestant theology became burning themes of public policy. (such black comedy would have without any doubt inspired the Marx Brothers)

There was a lot of idle prattleabout small government which enabled the finance establishment to appropriate huge wealth. Meantime jobs got outsourced to China, Japan built the hybrid car while Wall Street devised tricks that bled the whole world white (not only the USA).

Everybody cowered and accepted this beastly imposition.

Obama comes along and actually governs and knows how to talk about it. All of a sudden the cruel imposture of the Bush-Cheney gang becomes glaringly obvious - one feels deep shame: how were the last eight years possible ?

I'm rooting for Obama as much as anybody, but let's cool it with the "greatest president ever" talk right now. He's only 100 days in, and there is a lot of work still to be done. We have an economy teetering on the brink of becoming third worldish, a disease epidemic that could get out of control in a hurry, two wars, loose nukes, a broken healthcare system, a broken education system, the worst income gap in 80 years....I could keep going but I wouldn't know where to stop. So far, so good...I like that Obama dove right in and tackled these issues head on, but we have a long way to go before we think about adding his face to Rushmore.

It is so refreshing to have an adult in the WH.

And I love that metaphor. Of course I will truly believe it when he pushes healthcare through. The Rethugs are obviously not going to try to help him in any way. As late as today they are still voting 100% No. So Mr. President, shake them loose with that handshake.

Let them vote no all they want. Their stale ideas of the cold war are finished. Reaganomics failed and they don't want to accept it. It's time America caught up to the rest of the world and joined the 21st century. The more they vote no without presenting any kind of viable alternative (which they haven't to date), the more they look like obstructionists who simply oppose something just because Obama supports it. Recent polls show that fewer and fewer Americans are identifying themselves as republicans, and a large majority blame the GOP for the congressional gridlock.

Unless the GOP learns that there are far more important issues than gays, god, guns, and corporations, they will become more and more irrelevant until they get replaced by the libertarians, the greens, or some other third party.
