Rebecca Romijn

New mom Rebecca Romijn is talking about losing almost 60 lbs since giving birth to her twin daughters and going back to work. She credits most of her weight loss to breastfeeding and admits she wears Spanx.

She opened up to Extra!, and they sent out the following story.

(Los Angeles - April 30, 2009) - In Rebecca Romijn's first interview since giving birth to four-month-old twins, Charlie and Dolly, she reveals to "Extra" her secret to dropping the baby weight, the hardest part about going back to work and how she and husband Jerry O'Connell keep their romance alive.

Romijn's close to losing the 60 pounds she gained during her pregnancy and get this...She's done it without a workout plan. "I think within the first three weeks, I took off like 35 pounds without doing anything!" Okay, almost anything. "I haven't been able to work out that much because I have twins. It's impossible to get back into a regular schedule." So, what is her secret to dropping the pounds? "Breastfeeding is the very best diet I've been on. It's amazing. It's like you have to eat 5,000 extra calories a day or you can't produce enough food for them. So, that's been fun as well." She adds, "I'm not pretending to be back to the shape I was in beforehand anyway. I still have a ways to go...We've got Spanx underneath almost everything..."

On the set of her new film, The Love Child, Romijn opened up to "Extra" about being a working mother. "It's been complicated for a number of reasons. Our hours have been really late and we're working outside of Toronto in Hamilton which is about an hour away and I am still nursing [the babies] around the clock. So, we have to do a lot of milk runs..."

And O'Connell sounds like superdad. "He's so awesome. He's just like totally on diaper duty. I think he's having a really good time also."

It's not all baby time for Romijn and O'Connell though. They do find time for date nights. "Because the grandparents are here, everybody switches off when they are taking care of the babies and it's working out perfectly...[Jerry and I] will end up sneaking away for an hour even if it is just around the corner from the hotel."

When an "Extra" fan asks if it's hard to tell the twins apart, Romijn responds, "No because they look completely different. One looks just like Jerry. Her name is Charlie and the other one looks just like me. Her name is Dolly. She's a blonde and Charlie is a brunette and I think they are both just gorgeous."

Romijn continues, "They're really smiley and not fussy...For four months old, it's supposed to be really difficult but I have to say, it's just fun."

"Extra's" interview with Rebecca Romijn airs tonight and for more on this story, click on extratv.com.

Now she's a real classic American beauty, not Miss California next to her on the page.

Rebecca is damn near 6' tall in her stocking feet. It shouldn't be that hard.

The moral of the story is... BREASTFEEDING HAS BENEFITS and IS HEALTHY FOR YOUR CHILD.

That is the POINT here.

Good for a celebrity to promote breastfeeding.

I think it is great too. Breastfeeding is a great way to lose weight after childbirth. I lost all the weight I had gained during pregnancy in 1 1/2 weeks.

I bet Jerry is a great daddy like she said. He is a very nice guy. Good luck to them both and those babies. Lots of twins in Hollywood these days.

I feel really bad for O'Connell. He's been on the Stern show a few times in the past year or so and Rebecca sounds like a nightmare to be with. Very little s3x. Not allowed to watch sports on TV. She's very controlling and emasculating. It's sad to listen to.

Just goes to show you how quickly a guy's fantasy about being with a supermodel can blow up. They are usually cold fish.

Idiot. For the last year she was pregnant then gave birth to twins. Try being as big as a house for 5 or 6 months then giving birth and caring for 2 babies and see how often you want s3x.

I see about 10 moms in day care that have babies about 1 year old. about 2/3 of them are still 20-30 pounds overweight. I'm lucky - my wife worked her ass off to lose the baby weight and get back to here pre-pregnancy weight but it took 8-10 months.

My point is this -- losing the weight is difficult and losing most if it in four months is pretty amazing, but of course it is easier if you have the resources for Nannies, personal trainers, nutritionists.

So can't we just say something non-extreme, like "wow that is good, but not as amazing as it sounds".

Just once I want to hear a celebrity have some recognition of their circumstances by saying something like

"yeah -- I worked pretty hard to lose the weight, but then again, it's a lot easier for me because I'm lucky enough to have personal trainers, etc -- I can't imagine how difficult it would be to lose the weight without all that help".

But comments like these are rare given the levels of narcissism in hollywood.

I agree with you, but it's kind of sad to hear that you're "lucky" that your wife lost the weight quickly. You're lucky to have a healthy wife and child/ren.

Having just had a baby myself, I can say that it's actually 500 calories or so extra per day to breastfeed, and that with twins (who are smaller) it may take up to a 1000, which isn't really much more than a sandwich, an apple and a serving of whole milk yogurt - one extra meal per day.

Also, it is beyond exhausting unless you have help. If you can lay in bed, feed the babies and then go take time for yourself with no worries - plus sleep enough - of course you can get your figure back quickly.

If you are stressed out, up all night and day, barely have the energy for a shower and don't have the money or family to help, life is very, very different.

I'm assuming she had a planned C-section and lots and lots of care and support.

Since her job is being a model/actress and they are rich, her focus would of course be most centered on getting back in shape.

That's a horrible thing to say to someone who has been unable to conceive for many years. Shame on you.

Sarah Jessica Parker has one child, a son, whom she carried and delivered herself 7 years ago. She is now 44, and as you get older it can become very difficult, and in some cases impossible to get pregnant, even with all the technology we have available to us today (in vitro, clomid, donor eggs, etc).
Couples usually try "naturally" for years before turning to technology, and then if that doesn't work they may turn to surrogacy.
Rebecca Romijn is 36, one year younger than Sarah Jessica Parker was when she had her first child.
Sarah Jessica Parker is now 44. In childbearing years, that 8 years makes a world of difference.

Breastfeeding is not a diet. It is your body returning to you pre-pregnancy weight. Gawd, these body obsessed women are so tiresome.

Since she makes her living off her looks and body, she doesn't have the luxury of staying fat.
