NEW YORK — HBO has given the go-ahead to a new series about New Orleans and its ongoing effort to recover from Hurricane Katrina.

It's called "Treme" (truh-MAY') after a Creole neighborhood with a rich musical tradition. The series creator has a rich television pedigree: He's David Simon, who also made "The Wire" and "Homicide: Life on the Street."

Simon is filming the series in New Orleans, after making a pilot there this spring. New Orleans residents will be included in the cast and writing team to add authenticity.

HBO says it expects the series to start in fall 2010.

It's the second time that post-Katrina New Orleans has been used as a backdrop for a major television series. Fox's detective drama "K-Ville" was canceled quickly last season.

Oh yea. This should be pretty good. I've been missing my fix from David Simon since the The Wire ended.

He would have to take Bunk, because Wendell Pierce (who played Bunk) is from New Orleans, and has been very active with post Katrina relief efforts. I would not be surprised if he had something to do with David Simon creating this series. Pierce was also featured in "When the Levees Break" by Spike Lee, and I will never forget the story of how the insurance company conned his father out of paying for his claim to his house. They have to bring Clay Davis back, he would be perfect for the way the recovery has been handled. S$(%((%T !!!

I'm pretty sure Wendell Pierce is already signed onto the project along with a few others from the Wire.

David Simon will have all the plumbs with in his pocket if he takes. Lester, Bunk and Stringer with him.
Hope the story line includes a love interest for Lester, he's sooooooo sexy and never really got a chance to show it. Stringer on the other hand is so sexy it stings my eyes. I don't necessarily need to see him in a sexy role. Seeing him anyway at all is fine with me. The WIRE was such an important document. It should have won every award available. However, I don't think most Americans want to admit or associate themselves to the parts of life that effects us all. THE WIRE, is simply the best show EVER on T.V. Simon is a genious and will never be at a loss either in or for his talent.

I wish someone would do a reality show airing daily called Foreclosure, showing our fellow Americans the displacement that makes Katrina look quite small by comparison....!

These foreclosures are this President Obama's, Hurricane Katrina on steroids..!

A tsunami of homeless and displaced Americans is coming...thanks to the White House's detachment and "ambivalence" and our Senate being bought and sold to the corrupt banksters behind all of this...

As we watch this show even more Americans everyday lose their homes needlessly...

The more things change, the more they stay the same..!

Keep blaming Obama for this even though the entire wmess started under . . . BUSH! Obama's been in office for just over 3 months and this started during his TRANSITION before he was in the WH.

Blaming the Foreclosure mess on a president who has been in office for only 4 months instead of the President who ran the country for the last 8 years. Now that's fair and balanced for you.

Makes Katrina look quite small??? OBVIOUSLY you fail to see the difference of people being forced our of their houses by water and you didn't know a single person involved! Losing everything they have not just their house! Many lost their lives for God's sake! People are losing their houses from the economy for many reasons...Katrina should never be compared to any type downfall from a economic failure. Try using less words that involve natural disasters to get your point across!

This is good news. I look forward to watching scenes of my home town on TV, as I really do know what it means to miss New Orleans. The show should be a success on HBO, unlike poor "K-Ville".

Let's face it. Who wants to be entertained by enonomically-strapped human beings that can't afford multiple SUVs and a McMansion? It's way easier to ingore the ills of the world by watching weasels flaunting their foibles, wealth, greed and makeovers--especially when you consider the reality that today's consumer readily pays for entertainment where "actions speak louder than words." I suggest that you check box office receipts as evidence.

You must not have seen any episodes of HBO's The Wire or Homcide: Life on the Street.

If anyone can make urban blight entertaining, it's David Simon.

Entertaining but heartbreaking at the same time. Moral tales for our time.

I can't wait to see this show! Maybe, if it is done right, America can begin to understand the frustration, cruelty, fear and the absolute LOVE of New Orleans and home in the months and years after Katrina.

It should be Marlow. He got sh*t done instead of stringing you out and snaking more $$$$ out of you.
