There is only one entity to hold responsible for this and that is NIMH. The way mental health professionals treat patients’ trickles down from the National Institute of Mental Health. In a recent conversation with an NIMH official in regard to depression as the primary symptom for suicide he stated "It is not what we would call a strong risk factor." If depression is “Not a strong risk factor” for suicide will somebody please tell what is?

The fundamental issue is NIMH is not asking the questions that will lead to a fix for this problem. If we can agree that someone who is contemplating killing themselves or someone else is emotionally out of control then shouldn’t the first question be “What brings about an emotional state?” Let me make addressing this question perfectly clear. What brings an emotional state about from the inside out not from the outside in?

NIMH and every mental health professional needs to stop miring themselves down in ancient Freudian theoretical external observation and get to the core of the problem which is how each human being processes information from the beginning at the very core of the subconscious.

I do not often rant but this is a systemic problem that absolutely must and can be fixed if we start holding our mental health officials accountable and start demanding answers to questions that simply are not being posed in order to fix the problem.

Multiple murders have been an almost every day occurrence here in the United States.

Why would our military post overseas be any different?

Who is this dismissive for political reasons, mole ?

-Censor myself . Too bad the truth will never come out.

With this early mole, Durango, it must be a very sensitive/damaging story.

I'll bet the accused guy went after his fellow soldiers because they were taunting/threatening him -
if he didn't 'toughen up'.

Men are so damn good at denial and the military promotes that to the extreme.
"Just have a drink here on post and you will be fine"- Unique US John Wayne male emotional model.

Fragging has always been a part of war. With the increased pressures of multiple deployments, the lowered military admissions standards which resuled from failure to fulfill quotas with better qualified candidates, and the military's poor record on recognizing treating and releaving soldier with battle fatigure or PTSS, this kind of thing happens. War not only results in deaths of civilians and destruction of the environment and the culture in which they unfold, but they do untold damage to the young men and women we use to perpetuate military conflict. They are mentally and physically scathed. Time to spend more time considering how to avoid wars all together and less time trying to figure out my ingenius ways to kill "enemies."

A really sick thing the US military has been doing with PTSD affected vets- rather than paying for PTSD treatment the VA just has its physicians diagnose them with a "prexisting personality disorder" and send them right back there or in here with the wives and kids and co-workers.

That's why scenarios like this are so damn common in the USA, and we will see much more workplace, domestic and other violence here at home for generations.

Did the perpetrator see a therapist - or a RW Christian chaplain? Makes a HUGE difference since the latter have been telling troops that if they were REAL Christians, nothing they did or saw would make them upset. A significant part of our outrageous suicied rate - and now, perhaps, murder of fellow troops? - is because our men and women are getting no help and only lectures on the poor state of their immortal souls. What person, shell shocked and aghast at what war does, can find solace in being told he or she is a 'bad Christian' for having shattered nerves, depression, and doubts about what they are sent to do. I would really appreciate an investigation into the nature of "support" at Camp Liberty.

Rite, hollybork. And now standards are being raised ....

The ONLY NEW REQUIREMENT.

A H.S. diploma. No mental health requirements.

The best thing the U.S. can do about this mess is to immediately turn over security of the country to the Iraqi government. This waste of lives will continue for as long as we occupy Iraq. It couldn't be otherwise given the facts and ultimately, the Obama Administration will bear the brunt of criticism for the deaths as the toll rises. To Iraqis who need some adventure, taking out American soldiers is becoming a sport. We are sitting ducks just waiting for the next disaster. No good can come of remaining where we are not wanted.

I can't believe you would say something so ignorant like that. First off, it was the Bush administration that got us into this war without any evidence to back any reason going in there. Second, Obama wants to end this war and bring the troops home.

Obama cars a heck of a lot more for our troops then Bush, Cheney and the Republican Party combined. Have you been around for the last eight years?

What is there to say about such a pointless tragedy? I just wish the gunman committed suicide before taking the lives of his fellow soldiers.
