Cybil Shepherd

foxnews.com:

Tennessee-born beauty Cybill Shepherd definitely isn't one to waste words -- and had she no qualms in speaking out about who she thought was to blame for the passing of Proposition 8 in California's last election, which led to gay and lesbian marriage rights being overturned.

"The Mormons and Catholics," she told Tarts at the recent L.A Gay & Lesbian Center's "An Evening With Women" celebration in Beverly Hills. "Most of the money came from Utah, it's very unfortunate."

Let's get this straight... The Mormon church believes that a glorified man of flesh and blood came down from the planet nearest the star named Kolob and had actual unmarried sexual intercourse with the (then) Virgin Mary (Mormon Doctrine written in Mormon Doctrine, by Bruce McConkie, page 742.) who gave birth to Jesus, Son of God. Jesus does not marry, but 2000 years later visits Joseph Smith in a grove in upstate New York and instructs him to create a religion that declares only married people can get into the highest level of a 3 level heavenly system (Gays, Hitler, and the like share the lowest level) .

Once you get to the highest level, if you are a man, you get to marry any number of the good women who didn't get a chance to marry on earth through no fault of their own (this does not include women who chose not to marry, they are SOL) Then for eternity they get to have celestial sex where their multiple wives who will produce spirit offspring to populate the future universe that the man will create.

Don't you just love family values.

It would be funny if it weren't for the fact that 13,000,000 or more people believe this and use it to justify bigotry and hateful actions in the name of religion.

Not all Catholics, please don't include me and most of my fellow Catholics, that I know. are very much for equal rights for gays( and pro choice for that matter).

I really don't understand how the hispanics were influenced so if any one has any insight for me on this, please comment.

It Is very true about the Mormons' support. Here in Arizona I know that Huge amounts of money was given by Mormons and Mormon owned businesses to help defeat gay marriage in CA.

Speaking of Az, the President will be here at Az State tomorrow and the reactions to it will be very interesting after the way he was treated by the university!!

The European model is best. The government gets out of the marraige business. The government merely issues partership licences. If you want to get "married", you do that in a church of your choice.

Ideally that's what [I believe] most of us want, except the religious right keeps putting their noses in to politics and keeps F'ing it up for our country. They can't seem to remember separation of church and state. They think we’re in a church-state.

Under the constitution everyone should have the legal right to get married with all the rights afforded.
The church itself can decide if it is willing to marry them also.
It's so simple. One or Two ceremonies.
All are "married."
Those with two ceremonies are "church married."

Blah blah blah, every group has haters, to label the entire group just shows the ignorance of Cybill, there are lot of Catholics who are fine with Gay marriages etc.

Although it has been proven that both of those religions were the major fund providers to Prop 8 winning with a yes vote.

And tax exempt organizations should lose their tax exempt status once they become politcal organizations.

I suppose you would like to revoke the tax emempt status of unitarians who oppose the death penalty or Quakers who oppose war. Church speak to moral issues which at times overlaps with the political. You are attacking Churchs because their members contributed to a cause you disagree with which is not a well reasoned position.

The Catholic church itself, as an institution, was indeed rabid on the topic. Sure, there's lots of Catholics who are fine with gay marriage, there's also lots of Catholic who keep rubbers on their nightstand - what the average Catholic thinks & does has no affect the organization's 'official stance', on any topic that I can think of.

Dare you to do it before a priest. Dare you to use a rubber too. Dare you to use any form of contraception. You are no Catholic.

America should have laws that prohibit Infertile straight women or sterile straight men from marrying. Afterall, if the can't procreate and become parents it should be illeagal for them to marry.

The same law should get rid of divorce. Divorce is ruining the sanctity of marriage....but then we already knew that!

Oddly enough Jesus doesn’t hate or judge.

Jesus is the Son o f God and died for his and our sins.

Our creator is the only one who can, and will, judge us in the end. But then, and thank God, there is forgiveness.

So if the religious right is wrong for all the hate they spew they’ll be forgiven, and if gay people are wrong for being gay we will be forgiven. And if there is no God (and I believe there is), but if there isn’t, then we’re all just stupid for getting in this argument, which shouldn’t be an argument in AMERICA, LAND of the FREE, where we have SEPARATION of church and state SUPPOSEDLY.

Remember that big word when you were younger...antidisestablishmentinterianism...separation of church and state. If you want to be a tax exempt relgion, be a tax exempt religion; if you want to be a political action committee, be a political action committee, but you can't be both. The founding fathers really did know what they were doing.
To parahphrase the first amendment, stop trying to shove your views down the throats of the rest of us. We're all thinking people and we all get to make up our own minds.

This, unfortunately, is a fact, not an opinion. What they did is unconscionable. The arrogance of these people. These are the people that are baptizing Jews postumously. The nerve of these horrible, horrible, horrible people!

I've heard 100 people express themselves on this issue without a sign of hate. It's really about love of families -- love of mothers and fathers and what they do to inluence and be role models for their children. An extra father will never substitute for a mother.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:46 PM on 05/11/2009

After that angry mob scene, I think a lot of people don't want to support this any more. It seems to be more than just that one issue. Let someone slap a cross out of my hand.

Nobody is trying to "substitute" anyone for anyone else here. Some children have a mother and father in their homes. Some children have a mother or father only and some children have two mothers or two fathers. It's all about how the child is loved and protected and has little to do with the genders of their parents.

She doesn't have to "curry" anyone - she has been a vocal supporter of equal rights for as long as I can remember and her performance as martha stewart nothwithstanding, she has been a fabulous entertainer for many years.
