Liz Cheney: Obama Finds It Fashionable To Side With Terrorists

First Posted: 06/12/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:20 PM ET

Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter, Liz Cheney, accused Barack Obama of finding it "fashionable" to "side with the terrorists" during a Tuesday appearance on Fox News.

Continuing a media blitz in defense of the Bush administration's interrogation policies, Cheney accused the current president of making the country more vulnerable to attack and not supporting the military. By disclosing photos of detainee treatment -- which the Obama White House has been compelled to do by court order -- she proclaimed the president was aiding and abetting those determined to attack the United States.

"I think that it is really appalling that the administration is taking this step," she said. "I have not seen the pictures, I don't know what is in them. But clearly what they are doing is releasing images that show American military men and women in a very negative light. And I have heard from families of service members, from families of 9/11 victims, this question: When did it become so fashionable for us to side, really, with the terrorists? For us to put information out that hurts American soldiers."

"If [the president] really cared about" about these soldiers, Cheney concluded, he wouldn't be releasing these photos that show them "in a negative light."

The flame-throwing remarks came on the heels of similar statements Cheney made during an appearance Tuesday on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

Formalities were left at the door. "We are seeing a situation where this administration, for some reason, continues to release information that is helpful to the terrorists," Cheney declared. "Releasing details about what was involved in the enhanced interrogation program, releasing the techniques involved in that program, helps the terrorists. It helps them train to those techniques, it takes those techniques completely out of the realm of possibility for future presidents to use. So it was a very damaging thing to do. ... They seem to be only interested in releasing things that really paint America in a negative light."

In addition to accusing Obama of siding with terrorists, Cheney also argued that Attorney General Eric Holder, by offering to work with foreign governments, was refusing to "stand up and defend American sovereignty."

To America's Media..

Please explain to America, who Liz Cheney is !

For weeks now, America has been inundated with seeing her appear on Sunday, and nightly news shows, stating her opinions in support of her father, Dick Cheney’s views. I grant you, she speaks well, but as far as I have read about her, she has a large young family, (one child, still a baby not yet walking). And she once worked in some governmental office in an appointed position, that is said to have been created for her, which by the way, helped her dad’s own private investment situation. This of course gives rise to many unethical questions on her own behalf, and it certainly does not make her an expert on America’s security or foreign matters.

Right now my question is: Is America Stupid or What ?

What credentials does Liz Cheney hold to be able to state how America’s elected leaders should or should not say or do, and how leaders of other nations will re-act ?

Please give us (America) some clarity on who Liz Cheney is, and what her credentials concerning foreign policy. At lease look into her qualifications, before putting her on our nightly news, in what now tops her dad's constant appearances !

This is daddy's little girl defending her papa. After all the Bush Administration took care of her, creating a government job for her. I guess this is her way of being the good daughter

Mr. Chainy (sic) and daughter will not let this go away - EVER!

Release all the files including his favorites and those related to justifications for Iraq and the military contracts with Haliburton sibsidiaries, now preparing themselves to take advantage of the "CAP and TRADE give-away" Congress is planning to give to Corporate America!

Only FULL Investigation will make Chainy happy!

He needs his day in court so he can prove his case under oath! OR NOT!

Why, because his name is Barack Hussein? That's like a 7th grade private school joke.

Why are we hearing so much from Chainy (sic) and his kin folks?

Could it be because he does not have his f!nger p_pp_t to spread the word anymore?

He said, "no one else will defend .....!" Not one other politician!

This is not about our security! It is about his paran0ia and the many other distortions he pushed on the American People!

I am sure all the supporters and American people who voted for President Obama now know, thanks to Liz Cheney, that they voted for a President who casts America in a "negative light" and who finds it "fashionable" to "side with the terrorists." She really does her Dad proud.

My only hope is that Liz Cheney and her Dad keep on talking this kind of talk, because such talk only pisses off the Obama supporters to no end and motivates them even more to take action to fight harder and longer for the success of the Obama Presidency and the Democratic Party.

Good work, Liz.

I've never seen Liz before. Strange how much she looks and acts like her dad. Same body language which is both defensive and aggressive at the same time. BTW, Obama has asked these pictures not be released.

Not sure how releasing any of this is "showing them our tricks". Like they had no clue what we were doing. They knew more about what our country was doing then the people of this country knew.Im not sure how people can grill Obama over this and forget about all the prison photos that were released years ago.

No, this isn't Obama's fault. We shouldn't even had been in the position to debate whether we even have incriminating photos or techniques to release in the first place.

Lets not forget that Obama actually listened to, you know, the laws. The courts?

Also in not sure how anyone can really say :

"We haven't had any attacks SINCE 9/11" . Like 9/11 didn't count or anything. Yes, both sides are responsible for 9/11, but this is a dumb excuse to justify everything you have taken away from us after 9/11 ...Patriot Act. Federal wire tapping of its citizens

"Those that would give up a little bit of freedom for a lil bit of security deserve neither and will lose both."

Ben Franklin

The quote was off the top of my head, so i think i got it right, Sorry if i didn't. Its a good reminder of what our founding fathers really feel about whats been going on since 9/11. Where were all you patriots the last 8 years? Patriot Act, Federal wiretapping of US citizens.

I love it, the GOP talks about rebranding. And what do they show us that means? A different person accusing Obama of being in bed with terrorists. Wow, I'm swayed.

good point. the talking points don't sound any more believable when they come out of a little known woman's mouth than they do out of Cheney's

I have to give President Bush credit on this point; he knows when to keep his mouth shut. The more his vice prez runs off at the mouth, the deeper his administration's foot goes in. Cheney is running interference to hide guilt. There is no other former staff member coming to his rescue or confirming what he says and I find this interesting.
Go back to Wyoming, write your memoirs in retirement as your time is past Mr. Cheney. Take a cue from your former boss for a change...

Indeed. So far it's been a family affair.

And kudos to the former POTUS for keeping his mouth shut.

I have to admit, I also admire Bush's silence. I always thought Bush was the kind of guy who meant well but was too easily influenced by others. Hook him up with St Francis, he'd be a saint. Hook him up with Jeffrey Dahmer, he'd be a leg man.

Unfortunately, he got hooked up with the neo-cons. I appreciate his silence.
